Demining activities may be one of the most dangerous jobs in the world. But Helen Gray doesn't mind. A Scot from just outside Edinburgh, Gray worked with the Hazardous Areas Life-Support Organization, or HALO Trust, a humanitarian demining agency. She led a 400-member demining team in Mozambique in 2009 and has worked in various countries to help remove mines. Now she runs a farm, with livestock, whilst being a landmine advisor for the Geneva International Centre for Humanitarian Demining (GICHD). Hosted on Acast. Marcus chats to Paul Boggie, a man that battled heroin addiction for 7 years, then decided to turn his life around to become a Queen’s guard, in one of the world’s toughest army regiments. Paul's spine was later damaged in a car accident, forcing him onto painkillers, meaning another battle to beat substance dependence again. He overcame it and wrote all about his journey in Heroin to Hero, an autobiography with all proceeds going to charity. He's got some great insights into addiction, determination and lessons learned.
