Dr. Lamba is a board-certified ophthalmologist and glaucoma specialist at the Krieger Eye Institute in Baltimore, Maryland. She also serves as clinical associate professor of ophthalmology in the Department of Ophthalmology at The George Washington University. At the Krieger Eye Institute, Dr. Lamba is closely involved in residency training in addition to her glaucoma practice. Dr. Lamba specializes in medical, laser and surgical treatments for glaucoma and performs cataract surgery. Guest expert speaker Mona Kaleem, MD, will provide an overview of the scientific-based evidence that marijuana can be used as a treatment for glaucoma. Dr. Mona Kaleem is an Associate Professor of Ophthalmology at the Wilmer Eye Institute, Johns Hopkins University, who specializes in glaucoma and cataract surgery. In addition to running a busy clinical and surgical service, she is also a dedicated researcher, educator, and volunteer. Dr. Kaleem is best known for her interests in developing models for patient-centered care, investigating social determinants of health, and integrative medicine. A co-host of the Diagnosis Glaucoma podcast and a worldwide speaker on glaucoma, Dr. Kaleem has also published numerous peer-reviewed articles and textbook chapters on glaucoma.

Guest moderator Jullia A. Rosdahl, MD, PhD, interviewed occupational therapist Omar Mohiuddin, OTR/L, MS, MPH, CLVT, and Ed Haines from the organization Hadley on the topic of vision rehabilitation. They discussed providers and services that specialize in helping to maximize your remaining vision. Omar Mohiuddin has worked in both clinical and non-profit eye care settings as well academia doing research in the field of preventive medicine. He currently works at the Duke Eye Center in the Vision Rehabilitation & Performance division where he sees clients with age-related and acute onset vision impairment and addresses how changes in vision affect participation in activities of daily living, instrumental ADLs including, community and work accessibility, functional mobility, and driving safety. Ed Haines is the Chief Program Officer at Hadley, a 100-year-old organization dedicated to providing free programming that helps older adults discover news ways to do things made difficult by vision loss. Ed is a Certified Vision Rehabilitation Therapist and has served adults with vision impairments for 25 years, both in the public and private sector. Jullia A. Rosdahl, MD, PhD, is a board-certified and fellowship-trained glaucoma specialist at the Duke Eye Center. After completing her doctoral work on retinal ganglion cell biology during her MD-PhD at Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio, she is working to save as many retinal ganglion cells as possible and preserving sight for her glaucoma patients as an Associate Professor of Ophthalmology at Duke University. #Glaucoma #VisionLoss #GlaucomaAwareness

Discussion covered some of the tests you may experience during your glaucoma appointments, including eye pressure checks, visual field test, and other imaging tests. Participants asked questions regarding prescriptions, tools used to measure eye pressure, and how often patients should be tested.

This event featured Dr. Shivani Kamat, Assistant Professor of Ophthalmology, and a glaucoma surgeon at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center. Dr. Kamat discussed daily habits that may help manage glaucoma such as exercise routines, a healthy diet, sleeping position and more.

The event featured Dr. Ahmad A. Aref, MBA of the Illinois Eye & Ear Infirmary, a board-certified ophthalmologist specializing in glaucoma and cataract surgery. He is an Associate Professor of Ophthalmology and attending physician in the Glaucoma and Cataract Consultation Service at the University of Illinois College of Medicine Department of Ophthalmology and has also authored over 60 scientific publications. The doctor discussed Minimally Invasive Glaucoma Surgeries, also called MIGS. He then explained how MIG procedures differ from other glaucoma surgeries, how MIG procedures are performed, if the operation is permanent, and who might be a viable candidate for the procedure.

The doctor shared helpful tips for taking charge of glaucoma diagnosis.
