Dr. Linda Silverman, licensed psychologist and founder and director of Gifted Development Center/ISAD, joins us in today's episode to discuss adult giftedness. On this episode, we discuss the inner lives of the gifted adult and take a deep dive into overexcitability and how along with intensity and sensitivity, are often characteristics of the highly gifted. You appreciate and strive for the exquisite. You are painfully sensitive. You are extremely complex. You cherish integrity. Your truth-telling has gotten you in trouble. Should 98% of the population find you odd, seek the company of those who love you just the way you are. You are not broken. You do not need to be fixed. Karen Duque and her family heard the words no parent ever prepares to hear. Her ray of sunshine, Jakey, a 4-year-old beacon of light, was diagnosed with a rare form of childhood cancer, DIPG. She shares her story of mustard seed faith and how she learned to enjoy every last minute of Jakey's life. Karen discusses her journey through immeasurable pain, grief, unwavering faith, and resiliency. *It must be noted that while we recorded this episode, a ray of sunshine gleamed strongly across Karen's face, reminding us that Jakey's presence was ever so felt. We felt titling the episode "Ray of Sunshine" would be very well suited. In loving memory of Jakey Duque May 08, 2015-June 08, 2020.
