The RE-engineer, Jeffrey Heiligers, Episode 12

11/12/2020
Today we are in the Netherlands, talking with someone I met back in London in 2014. Already then I was intrigued by how he was embracing design from such an innovative perspective. During Dutch Design Week Virtual, helped in October, he spoke about a project that he has spent the last 10 months working on called ‘ The New Standard 2030, The Right Choice: A series of Positive Concepts ’ During these 10 months, he worked and developed four concepts, Re-Engineering home and lifestyle products to The New Standard matching his vision for the year 2030. This was achieved through re-valuing materials, re-framing production methods, re-connecting consumers to products, and by looking deeper into technology and crafts used during the making process and regenerating them to new standards. Low impact, purpose and conscience is now The New Standard in manufacturing, where recycling is central to the design process and disposing is simply out of fashion. The Icon, Barbara Hulanicki, Episode 6

9/3/2020
How do you introduce someone who needs no introduction, and finding one word to describe today's guest is impossible, iconic, legendary, visionary are a few that come to mind. So I'm here in Miami, on Collins Ave at the studio of Barbara Hulanicki, founder of the iconic label Biba. I met Barbara 3 years ago upon my arrival in Miami and she’s become a great friend, my saving grace, and a go-to person for a good old fashion gossip session. Her energy and laughter are contagious and she's definitely not shy to voice her opinion, so it was really nice to sit down with Barbara for an informal chat and hear her story, the start of Biba, her love for illustration, and what she thinks of fashion today. Today's guest is an Irishman, a Dubliner to be precise who has for the past 12 years called NYC home. The Performer, Matteo Augello, Episode 3

8/6/2020
What do Maria Callas, Lady Emma Hamilton, Electric music, and drag all have in common? This week's guest is an ex-colleague of mine, Italian but based in London, he is a performer, a lecturer of cultural studies, collaborator with the Victoria & Albert Museum in London, and someone who has worked for the Royal Opera House in London the BBC, and the American Ballet Theatre in NYC. He describes himself as a performance artist who uses his body as a research tool, and whose aim is to tell stories from the past that he finds fascinating and which he believes are still relevant today. From performing The Art of the Prima Donna, at the V&A which talks about the history of female opera singers, to his electropastiche interpretation of some of Donizetti's most famous arias, where together with musician Jo Pedrali, they merge opera with electronic music, in essence updating the meaning of operatic and creating a contemporary suite that can be equally played at a rave or performed in a 17th C theatre, and all interpreted through a performance of sound, movement, and drag. Today I catch up with him to discover more about his work and about two new projects he is working on such a soundscape performance celebrating the anniversary of the birth of Caravaggio and reconstructing the choreographies of the Attitudes of Lady Emma Hamilton, I welcome today's guest, Matteo Augello. Textural Anthologies: Intro

7/23/2020
Hello and welcome to TEXTURAL ANTHOLOGIES the podcast series that explores the personal and professional side of creative individuals in various industries. My name is Massimo Casagrande In this first series I will focus on the SLASH CULTURE. I decided to record these informal conversations with people I have met over the past 20 years, people I have worked with, partied with, studied with and met in different stages of my life in the various cities and countries where I have lived and worked, because I feel they all have such interesting personal stories and experiences to tell and in some instances, it was nice for me to discover more about them. These interviews all weave together to form a tapestry that reflects creativity, expression, and culture. Sometimes a nostalgic insight into a bygone era. For me, each interview is like its own short story and I wanted to capture a snapshot of you each guest The Interviews are conducted in an informal way, sometimes questions are prepared beforehand and in other cases, the questions are born naturally from the conversation. What I like is that there is the spontaneity of the content and the main purpose is for the guest to say whatever they feel and want and above all have fun. As the journalist and writer, Alain Elkann once said, “ an interview is a photograph made of words’ and I would like you all to leave at the end of this series with a special photo album. She has become an artist in her own right, designed prints for Fendi Menswear, and written a biography about Leigh Bowery.
