Magnesium Sulfate “The Guard Outside The Gate”

1/31/2024
Magnesium is one of the most crucial minerals in our body. It regulates muscle contractions, stimulation of nerves in the central nervous system, and has been shown to improve cardiac outcomes for patients for years. Why isn't it used more in pre-hospital and traditional care? https://ods.od.nih.gov/factsheets/Calcium-Consumer/#:~:text=Almost%20all%20calcium%20in%20the,every%20part%20of%20your%20body. https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/9115526/#:~:text=Intravenous%20magnesium%20has%20been%20suggested,myocardial%20infarction%2C%20and%20cardiac%20arrhythmias. https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/11105328/#:~:text=Main%20indications%20for%20intravenous%20application,may%20profit%20from%20i.v.%20magnesium. A Trip Into The Mind “The Constant Battle of Treating Psyche Patients With Little Resources”

1/22/2024
The one thing that we all struggle with in this field is psyche patients. When we are called to a home at 2am for someone who is suicidal or placing someone on a 72 hour hold, our first few moments are what sets the tone for all of their care from that moment on. Not only that but how we interact with them during those first few moments will make them more or less willing to accept the care they need. What do you think is the best approach to these patients? What would be your advise to the new paramedics and nurses during their first few interactions with this kind of patient? https://www.psychiatry.org/patients-families/helping-a-loved-one-cope-with-mental-illness#:~:text=Try%20to%20show%20patience%20and,be%20most%20willing%20to%20start https://www.nhs.uk/mental-health/conditions/depression-in-adults/causes/ https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC6488448/#:~:text=For%20example%2C%20individuals%20with%20depression,et%20al.%2C%202008 If you have any questions, comments, concerns, or a topic that you would like to be covered; feel free to reach out! The Sleepy Paramedic (TikTok star makes a big mistake)

8/3/2023
Zac Crickenberger makes a huge mistake by posting a video of a story of himself playing a song that mocks a patient with dwarfism. Its important as providers that we look into what happened and why it did when situations like this occur. Was it because of his character? Or a field that has little assistance for mental health? Listen for yourselves and make a determination on what you believe is true. Disclaimer: Zac has since made a public apology for his actions and has seeked out counseling. This is not a cancel culture episode and is posted for educational purposes on public awareness. Understanding the Heart Part. 1

4/30/2023
Its important as providers that we understand the heart and how it pumps our blood throughout the body. This episode talks about the mechanical function of the heart and school for thought on assessing these patients. With a growing population of cardiac patients, our goal is to figure out how we can provide the best care for these patients. The first step is always by learning. The more we know, the more we will be able to help our patients in a time of need. P.S. sorry for being sick. PTSD In Healthcare

4/17/2023
Have you suffered from PTSD? Its important in healthcare that we learn about our mental health and treat it before we become patients ourselves. We try to be the strongest person in the room and because of that, we suffer in silence. WAKE UP! Your health is the most important thing in this field because without you; our parents, our children, and our friends would not have access to the best care. Ask yourself a few questions like: Do you know the resources in your community? Can you recognize PTSD in yourself and coworkers? What can I do better for myself? How do I talk with others about my health? Do I have a person to confide in? Fentanyl the Good and the Bad

2/7/2023
Hey everyone! Welcome back to another awesome episode. Were talking about Fentanyl today, is it good? Is it bad? Honestly it really just depends on your perception and knowledge on the subject. Fentanyl has been a progressively more taboo subject for the past 2 decades but has amazing benefits as well as the ability to destroy very readily if not handled properly.
