Loving What Is: How to Accept and Love The Life You Have

5/1/2024
I recently asked you, the listener what your facing today, and what you'd like to hear discussed on the podcast. One dear listener wrote-How to accept and love the life you have when it's not how you imagined it. This is huge and I know I can totally relate!! If you would've asked 20 year old me to describe what my life could or should look like at 40...I wouldn't have been able to picture the life I'm living now. If you would've asked 35 year old me I still couldn't have pictured myself here. This episode isn't called How Did I Get Here, because we're not focusing on the past. We're talking about acceptance, which anyone who's had the pleasure of early sobriety knows a thing or two about. We're talking about gratitude. We're talking about inquiry and finding a way to make peace with reality. I feel good about this one. From Victim to Victor: Empowering Scapegoats to Rewrite Their Narrative ep16

4/24/2024
The one that doesn't play into the dysfunction is targeted as the problem. -Teal Swan What is a scapegoat? A person who is blamed for the wrong doings, mistakes or faults of others, especially for reasons of convenience. They are the one that bears the blame for others and is the object of irrational hostility. They are portrayed in a negative light to others. They are painted as unlikeable and their character is consistently attacked. This is abuse. This is gaslighting. This is not your fault and it is not ok. From Cringe to Confidence: Mastering Embarrassing Memories ep15

4/17/2024
I recently asked for listener input for situations that you're struggling with and would like some help reframing. One woman reached out and shared: "How do I overcome embarrassing memories? I think about them in the middle of the night and then I'm up all night with anxiety." Why do we get embarrassed? The root cause seems that we're anticipating a negative evaluation from others. We think that the image of ourselves we'd like to portray has been undermined and that it creates a negative impression of who we are. We're worried they'll judge us based on that interaction-but in reality-we're judging ourselves worse that they ever could or would! Instead f trying to forget it, it may be helpful to accept it and even laugh at it. Talk to a trusted friend or relative who can help you see the humor in the situation. Remember that we all make mistakes and NO ONE thinks about us as much as we think about ourselves. What you're focusing on is in the past-focus forward. It's totally ok to visit past memories, they can be a compass and guide us in the direction we don't want to go. Just don't stay there! You can analyze the circumstances and see where you can redirect and make adjustments. You can even list 5 your top 5 cringe worthy memories then really as yourself-was it really that big of a deal? Was it the end of the world? So what if I did or said something silly? If you hurt yourself, someone else or altered relationships then this is an opportunity to self reflect and use it to alter your choices and actions, but if not-give yourself a great big break!! Do you allow yourself to make mistakes?? How would you think of or judge your child, best friend, sister if they did or said the same thing or something similar? Would it carry the same weight? Would it keep you up at night? It's time to set the past down, you're not headed there. In these moments give yourself the grace you'd give to a loved one and allow yourself to be human. If you need a reminder that we all do things we aren't proud of you can call and swap stories with me... Remember, these feelings are based on what you think other people are thinking about you. Repeat this mantra-I am who I think you think I am You are so loved. --- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/brandi-kelly8/support

Worried About Aging? Learn to embrace it and get busy living

4/10/2024
In 2 months I'll be 40!! I can confirm that it's not as scary as I thought it would be, but I also thought I'd have it all figured out by now. I'm here to encourage you to embrace your aging while you're still here! It is a privelige to wake up everyday. Aging is an opportunity to be grateful for the things that haven't taken you out! In this episode I urge you to embrace your life, your age, and get busy living it to it's fullest-TODAY! One day we will all die. The things we worried about won't matter (for the most part). The excuses you had for not running toward your dreams like you were on fire won't have any relevance. So what's stopping you? Things that don't matter in the big picture. Avoiding Your Why-How to tell the difference between ego and inner guidance

4/3/2024
Are you avoiding anything lately? How would you know if you were? Do you have a firm WHY in place and a clear vision of your purpose?...because I don't...I have recognized some pretty intense avoidance going on lately. I feel good then tune out, I'm making dinner, then grabbing my phone. Why do I call this avoidance? Because it happens in the calm moments that I normally use to connect with my higher self. To connect with what I'm doing. To feel deeply. As soon I saw this happening I sat quietly and I felt. What followed was burnout, overwhelm, exhaustion. Not so pleasant feeling were just below the surface of my distraction. Good news-I felt them, I let them in without pushing them away, and I know that eventually, they will pass. In this episode I unravel the EGO-but not like you've heard it before-as some evil, self-absorbed nuisance that we need to work to rid ourselves of. Let's think of our ego is an Earth Guide Only. Ego drives the human ship in many instances. Our appearance, our things, our wants and desires. These things are bad but they are limited to the flesh. That is not who you truly are. You are not your body. You are not something that can be touched. Not the YOU you. So recognizing the difference between which guidance system is driving and turning to the spirit over the physical can be achieved when we catch ourselves. How's Your Family Connection These Days? It's Okay To Pick Up The Phone First

3/20/2024
We're in the season of family in our life so far this year. What I mean by that is there is a closeness, despite the physical distance, that is seen, felt and expressed often and it is the very best feeling!! We've had family come to visit in Texas, I've been to Utah and we have family in town now even!! My mom-in-law is a HUGE supporter of this podcast and I know she's listening when I wonder if anyone actually is. My cousin's talked to me about the show and shared some of their relatable struggles. This was almost the never the case in my previous life... I've expressed before that I felt judged and rejected by my family. I felt like I wasn't good enough for them. The problem with that was-they never expressed those feelings. They missed me and worried about me. It was me that Judged and rejected them. That is until I took a ling hard look at my own thoughts and actions, my perceptions of others and choose to look again. Change the way you look at things, and the things you look at change! I just had the best visit to Utah for my little brother's wedding. I got to spend time with my grandma's. I got to dance with my niece and nephew. I LOVED getting to spend alone time with my dad. Because I was willing to. They didn't change to fit my idea of who they should be, how often they should call or visit. I chose to love them exactly like they are. What a relief and a blessing!! I want to encourage you to pick up the phone. Call and ask about their day, their friends, hobbies, memories-whatever. Just put aside what you want from them and show up as who you want to be. Give them the love you desire. Be the change. You may not get what you want, but you may feel better knowing you tried. Disappointed, Not Discouraged-Handling Setbacks As A Work In Progress

3/13/2024
How do you handle setbacks? This week I'm sharing a glimpse into our first setback (of many, I'm sure) on the road to becoming parents through adoption. We're early in the process, but we were close to signing with an agency...until our funding fell through. Disappointed, yes, but discouraged we are not. We WILL be parents, just not on our timing. So I'm learning how I handle setbacks in this season of life. The answer so far, is not as well as I would have hoped, but through the lens of love, not bad at all. I'm not drinking nor is it a factor. I'm sober, healthy, married to an amazing man and haven't I cried in 2 whole days! This wouldn't be the case a few years ago. So I'll give myself credit there. I am a work in progress. The greatest breakthroughs come after breakdowns and I think this one opened me up for some serious growth. I needed to get vulnerable here and let you know that although I know and share all the things to do to stay sober, spiritually aligned and living in harmony with the spirit of the universe, I also struggle HARD sometimes. I missed an episode last week. I couldn't muster any good words. I have been avoiding all the things that I normally find comfort and grounding in. No meditation. No journaling. No exercise or healthy movement. No greeting the sunrise with gratitude. The one day I did try to meet the sun I got a ticket. It's been a doozy of a pity party y'all. But I'm here, dusting myself off and bringing awareness to what I've been choosing. Today I'm choosing to give up faith in the ways of the world. I'm choosing to embrace the world of spirit-unconditionally. I'm choosing to trust that any setback is a redirection on my path. This pain is a blessing. We know we want to be parents, to raise kids, to grow our family and share our love with a new life. I'm ditching the drug of doubt-which undermines my confidence and sends me seeking approval before making decisions. I have every right to have confidence in myself and be trusting of sprit. I'm giving myself a big 'ol break and trusting the Universe completely. --- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/brandi-kelly8/support

10 Secrets For Success and Inner Peace-How To Be Happy Today

2/28/2024
Today we're tapping into Dr. Wayne Dyer for his 10 Secrets for Success and Inner Peace. He actually wrote this book for his daughters, but the gems within are spread throughout his talks and books across the years. I'm sharing them with you today and I invite you to join me in applying them today and everyday hereafter. 1. Be Open To Everything & Attached To Nothing-open your mind to ALL possibilities! Believe all things are possible. If you believe you can or believe you can't-YOU'RE RIGHT! Attachment creates all of our problems. The need to be right, to have something or someone, to win-all attachments. Refuse negative thinking. Refuse pessimism! We have just as much evidence to be positive as we do to be negative. 2. Don't Die With Your Music Still In You-Go after your passions! 3. You Can't Give Away What You Don't Have-Whatever you're full of is what will overflow. What comes out of you in words and actions is what's inside you. What's inside you now? Aim to respond with love in all circumstances. Fill yourself with love and love is what will overflow. You get what you give. 4. Embrace Silence-Meditate and take time to listen to the sounds of nature 5. Give Up Your Personal History-The past is gone! Line in the now. To create change, live from today without yesterdays narrative, conditioning or influencing. Remove your labels. You aren't your past. Don't get stuck in the story you tell about who you are, based on where you've been. 6. Improve Your Mindset-You experience everything and everyone as thoughts in your head. Your thoughts are the source of virtually everything in your life. What are you thinking about your life? Change your thoughts, change your life. 7. No Resentments-Stop giving your emotional wellbeing over to someone else. Don't blame anyone else. Take full responsibility for your life. It's yours. Send love, peace and joy to whatever comes your way. Do not accept people's offers of criticism. What you think of me is none of my business. Refuse to be offended. Don't judge others either. Judging is defining. Aim to remain open minded and hearted. Be peaceful, forgive others, let go and be free. 8. Treat Yourself As If You Already Are What You Want To Be-Act as if. Act as if you're already a mother, a business owner or a motivational speaker, etc. Visualize how future you would think, feel and speak-then GO DO IT! It starts with thoughts, then feelings, then actions. 9. Treasure Your Divinity-Everything is a miracle. Every moment is sacred. You are a piece of the divine intelligence that supports everything. You are source energy in the flesh! 10. Wisdom Is Avoiding All Thoughts That Weaken You-Forgive yourself for shame, guilt and apathy. Turn over issues, fears and problems to your higher self-not your ego. You are so loved. --- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/brandi-kelly8/support

Get Out Of Your Own Way And Expect Miracles In Your Life

2/21/2024
Do you ever catch yourself drowning in a fog cloud? Do you ever stop and realize you put it there, and you can take it away? Even the most positive thinker falls prey to the doom, or overwhelm or overscheduling... Do you ever catch the miracles that are occuring on the daily in your life? I guess that depends on what you consider a miracle I suppose...like our very existence, for starters. How about a hypothetical road that's been blocked that is suddenly un-blocked...Some unclimbable mountain that suddenly has a chair lift or unexplained gondola installed out of the blue. Staying in a steady state of gratitude lights the way! I'm so grateful for my mom's health, my Grandma's legacy and focus on her blessings, and the clear, beautiful picture that these women have painted for me on what it's really all about, as I grow into this next phase of life. What phase is that? 40 and motherhood for starters!! We are adopting! Tune in for life updates, tears of joy and good words. Sonder-The Realization Of The Complexity Of Others

2/14/2024
John Koenig coined the neologism word Sonder for his online dictionary of Obscure Sorrows. The definition of Sonder is the realization that each random passerby is living a life as vivid and complex as your own-populated with their own ambitions, friends, routine, etc. Something to ponder... The heart is for giving. Which means that the heart is for-giving...forgiving. But why can't we listen to our heart when it's time to forgive? Our mind lists the reasons we can't or won't but our heart is for it. Loving Kindness=taking a genuine active interest in others. Shut Down Your Negative Voice-The 5 C's of Negative Thinking with Brandi Kelly

2/7/2024
This week I'm in absolute awe at our human experience. All that had to happen for you and I to be here, at this time, living this life. It's truly amazing! The fact that each morning we wake up and our eyes know to open and this body and brain runs it's program that it's learned through it's experience. It's incredible when you really think about it. And yet somehow we still manage to let negative thinking run it's automatic program and steal our joy. I listened to an interview with Price Pritchett on The School of Greatness podcast recently and he spoke about the 5 C's of Negative Thinking. Now that I'm aware of these things I'm constantly catching myself caught up in them! Fortunately, it's also the awareness of them that allows us to shift it and choose a better feeling thought. The negative voice that's running on auto-pilot in your mind's background is the discounter, the doubter and the demotivator. It plays the story from the past instead of pushing you into living now and building a brighter future. It takes loads of practice, discipline and awareness to shift and shut it down but it's totally doable! The 5 C's are: 1. Complaining 2. Criticizing 3. Concern 4. Commiserating 5. Catastrophizing Creating deep and profound change isn't the result of one BIG proclamation or decision...it's a serious of small choices that support the big decision over and over, day after day, until a new program is installed. It's the daily details that'll get you where you wanna go! You are so loved. #goodwords #goodwordspodcast #ramdass #spirituality #integration #thesoberbartender #podcast #soberbartender #recovery #wedorecover #sober #soberlife #multiplepathways #harmreduction #education #advocate #reducethestigma #recoveryfromlife #recoveryofself #recoverydharma #smartrecovery #12steps #soberpodcast #recoverypodcast #courseinmiracles #meditation #hangoverfree #quitdrinking #sobertravel #sobersummer #feelings #feelingsarentfacts #feelingishealing #youareenough #youarenotalone #youareloved #loveyourself #equanimity #acceptance #itiswhatitis #shift #optimism #perspectiveshift #perspective #createyourreality #free #overwhelmed #stress #copingmechanisms #peoplepleaser #honesty --- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/brandi-kelly8/support

Name A Time When Worry Actually Solved A Problem

1/31/2024
Can you think of a single time that worrying has solved a problem in your life? I can't. It's our own thoughts that disturb our peace, even more so than situations themselves. Our thoughts keep telling the story. Our thoughts keep the past active in our present. My own personal thoughts tend to go straight to the worst case scenario, never to the best possible outcome. So how do we out-think this subconcious program of negativity? Spoiler alert...WE DON'T! Insert meditation. Why do we meditate? To stop our thoughts? Not at all. Insert gratitude. Why be grateful? It can literally propel you into positivity. I briefly discuss applying Buddhist practices and principles to end the suffering of addiction (Recovery Dharma) and touch on the 4 Noble Truths and the Eightfold Path. This Is The Secret To Being Fully Alive

1/24/2024
I used to think that healing through meditation meant that I needed to strive to be zen-like...to be calm in the face of chaos...unbothered like the lotus flower. I'm finding that to not be the case. I want to sing louder as I heal. Dance wilder. Be more direct. More honest. Love deeper. Feel more fully. I'm gaining these things slowly as I continue to practice my practice. My perception of what it would be like was far from the reality. I've learned to be more accepting of situations. Respond different. Not dwell. I received a message from a dear friend that said "Welcoming everything that comes to us is the challenge. This is the secret to being fully alive." The topic was grief, but these Good Words wrapped around my mind and I knew that they applied to it all. This walk we call our lives, strolling through the joys and sorrows, the ebb and flow of circumstance, choice and outcome. It's all a lesson. It's all teaching us. And I've learned the most from the worst of it. I love the concept that welcoming it all-that which we deem bad, negative, undesirable, right along with the "good", positive and stuff we want more of-is the challenge. Every emotion. Every feeling. Every experience. Even our judgements. Welcome them. This is the secret to being fully alive. Not escaping, numbing, rejecting, or pushing away. Welcome it all. FEEL IT ALL. It won't kill you. These feeling can't eat you. The only way out is through, and going through will take you on the ride of your life. You're doing great. You can't do YOU wrong. Good Words You'll Want To Hear If You Can't Seem To Stop Drinking

1/17/2024
Season 2 is moving along nicely with big evolutions happening every single week! In this rebranding I wanted to zoom out from talking about sobriety and recovery, but I was given the gift of some HUGE reminders that everything good in my life is the result of getting sober. It would be nice to let that fact fade into the background and move onward and upward as life continues to get better and better. But that's not how it works. When I ask How Can I Help? Who Can I Help? I'm met with the question-What breaks your heart? It's our suffering. The obsession. The feeling completely stuck in the insane cycle of addiction. It's the trap of our thoughts and perceptions. I know that the greatest thing that I can offer anyone else is the gift that was given to me. The way out. The path out of suffering. American novelist and social critic Toni Morrison said "If you are free, you need to free somebody else. If you have some power, then your job is to empower somebody else." If you wake up everyday thinking maybe today will be the day you finally quit, and every night you go to bed feeling like you've failed-I see you. You are one day away from creating the lasting change that you can't stop thinking about. It starts with one day. That turns into two. Then a week goes by, and so on. But it starts with one day. Listen in if you want a hug for your heart. Sending you all love. --- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/brandi-kelly8/support

Bringing The Spiritual Into The Fabric Of Daily Life: human experience, somebody training, integration and bridging the gap

1/10/2024
Hello and welcome to Good Words! We begin with the lovely reminder that we are not just a human on a spiritual journey, but a spirit having a human experience! Embrace the challenges as opportunities for growth, stay present and cultivate love. In every breath, there is an invitation to return to the essence of your being. Challenge lies in bridging the gap between our spiritual insights and the way we navigate the world. Bringing the spiritual into the fabric of daily life in the form of conscious communication, acts of kindness and cultivating a loving mindset. Integration is embodying the wisdom gained in moments of clarity. Ram Dass talk brings up my own experience of "somebody training", trying to change from the outside in, looking for somebody to tell me I'm really somebody, realizing that the inside didn't feel good (which would explain alcohol abuse), the suit I was trying to wear didn't fit. Realized that my soul needed a rest from the character I'd been trying to play. Pain and feeling sick inside led to recovery which led to being true to my deepest self. We go over the distinct difference in practicing your practice vs getting dragged along by your will run wild! Lots of good words to be heard this week. --- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/brandi-kelly8/support

Good Words Intro

1/3/2024
It's the very last minute, I'm pretty sure I have a sinus infection, I'm working 7 days a week and it's TIME to release the first episode of season 2...The Thought Alchemist was the plan, but I've been reluctant to take action. I've procrastinated and it's now or be late (might as well be never), I have to create and release something and I'm not loving my new plan. I question everything. Should I keep podcasting? Is this helping? What do I really want to talk about every week? What do I want to contribute to the world? Good Words. They've been my solace in times of joy as well as struggle. I turn to my good words when I need to focus or center or ground or escape or release. They uplift, radiate, provoke, warm, induce and inspire. My dear friend shared the term-Good Words-and it stuck with me. I'm here to share them, hear them, say them. This brief little intro is the best I could muster but I can assure you-good things are coming to the new Good Words with Brandi Kelly podcast. Why Does Quitting Drinking Feel Like A Punishment? What Can We Do About it? with Brandi Kelly

12/13/2023
I'm here to tell you quitting drinking is NOT a punishment for bad behavior!! Why does it feel that way? While quitting may initially feel like a punishment, those of us who make this choice find long-term benefits in the way of improved physical health, mental well-being and clarity, emotional stability and overall life satisfaction. If you want to quit drinking but don't identify as an "alcoholic" or "addicted" there are some general strategies and steps you can follow that can be very helpful. Quitting drinking is a personal journey-not a punishment-and what works for one person may not work for another. It's important to tailor your approach to your individual needs and circumstances. There is no one size fits all solution. If you're struggling, don't hesitate to reach out or seek professional help to ensure you have the support and guidance necessary for success. --- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/brandi-kelly8/support
