This episode is a bit of a wild card. My gues, Mike Forgie, is an SEO specialist using AI tools like Frase to write, and optimise websites for better listing on Google. Mike showed me how to use a tool like Frase. Which on its own was already fascinating to me because I am not an SEO expert. But we then went beyond that and ideated around using Frase, Google, and ChatGPT (or any other AI writing tool) to write LinkedIn posts that are more likely to resonate with our ideal readers. Why? Because instead of relying on ChatGPT and our gut to pick topics, we use Google and Frase to write about topics that are relevant to our target persona. When trying to get AI to write quality posts we are often disappointed. The reason? The prompt was not good enough. But it's not only the prompt that matters, it's the priming that influences what the prompt can do. Journalist Jordan Wilson has developed a highly detailed prompt that allows him to train an AI to write almost exactly like he would write. He does this by being extremely specific about what the AI has to analyse, and feeding it excellent samples that are representative of the intended piece of content.

AI tools are a dime and a dozen. What really matters is solving problems that were impossible to solve before AI came along. This conversation with Kait LeDonne was one of the most inspiring. Kait shared a number of stories that show how a personal brand (on LinkedIn) helps with e.g. publishing a book. Her approach to brand building couldn't be more organic, rooted in the person's values and beliefs. She debunks some of the formulaic approaches to brand building, e.g. using templates to write posts. We talk about how Yuval Harari became a bestseller only after his husband built a brand for the book and him. Kait also touches on how Atomic Habits became a bestseller because James Clear built a solid brand even before writing the book.

In this week's episode we're turning the tables: the host Simon Chappuzeau is being interviewed by a previous guest. Why? Simon also landed a viral post and made some interesting experiences. In order to share his experiences, Simon asked the author of 'If Cold Email was a Spotify Playlist' author, Yurii Veremchuk, to interview him. Eugene is based out of Singapore and is one of the few Asian LinkedIn creators. With his systematic mind he carefully analyzed what big LinkedIn creators do on LinkedIn and combined this with his own experience in presentation design. Out comes a unique, high value style that turned into three viral posts. He got to this through months of trial and error with various formats before settling on slideshows. And he then perfected the slideshows by developing his five principles. This conversation was one of my favourites and clearly Eugene is a master at what he does, so be sure to listen to it. My core takeaways are the following five:

Moritz has been writing on LinkedIn for less than three months when he landed his viral post ("8 Copywriting Tricks Used by Apple"). This post alone garnered him 1.5 m views, 8.211 likes, 624 comments, and 849 shares. In Moritz's case (like in many other cases), this success has transformed his writing career on LinkedIn. Before that post, he's been trialing various styles, from text-only posts to single-image posts to slideshows (check out his post timeline). But with this post, Moritz honed in on his style: slideshows only. Since then, he's perfected his slideshow style to always be highly actionable and easy to consume. People seem to like this as he has grown his following from a few hundred to now (February 2023) close to 20.000. The core takeaways from this conversation for me:

Viral posts teach us a lot about human sentiment and trends. But they can’t be planned. What factors do we control that (guarantee) above-average views? Gunnar Habitz ran an experiment with three posts and achieved 3x his average views. On this podcast, he will share what exactly he did. As a bonus, Gunnar also spoke about how you, as an employee, can forge your own brand and use that as an advantage for your employer. Listen to the whole episode to get Gunnar’s step-by-step guide.

A viral post with unintended side effects: Laura leveraged a trending topic with her authentic personality. And realised that viral posts have a shelf life because they leverage a current trend - and trends change. Podcast guest Laura West managed to land a viral post doing just that with her post getting 7.5 m views - and landing her 9 marriage proposals! In the podcast, Laura explains said that mothers living the perfect life were a popular topic at the time of the post going live. But today, a similar post now would probably not work as well anymore. In addition to this, Laura - like many other guests - reiterated that being authentic is key to getting engagement on LinkedIn. Laura managed to build an authentic image of a mother and agency owner on LinkedIn that laid the foundations for her post to go viral. Listen to the whole episode.

This is one of my favourite conversations. Not only is Yurii humble. He is also open to learning and people. That's the secret behind his success. Beyond his 8 million view post, Yurii has grown a solid community of people around him on LinkedIn. Because he sees LinkedIn as a community of people, of amazing people. You never know who you are going to meet but you know it is going to be interesting. When his post went viral, Yurii pledged to respond to each and every of the more than 2.000 comments he would eventually get. The fact that he followed through is a testament to his being genuinely interested in learning from other people. To Yurii, LinkedIn is a treasure trove of people to engage with. We think that his posts and the love and dedication that he shows in these posts are an expression of that.
