Did Someone Say Cocktail Hour?!

3/21/2024
So… what even is Cocktail Hour?? Let’s talk about it!! Cocktail hour is what we call the time between your wedding ceremony and your reception. Generally, this is when you and your partner will go and get your portraits done, and your guests will enjoy a drink, a chat, and some appetisers - but there’s a little more to it than that! For you and your partner: Your wedding day is a super intense celebration, and if you’ve spent the whole morning getting ready, the day is just go-go-go with not much time for recovery! So… your cocktail hour is perfect to take a moment to relax and embrace the feeling of being newly married! You’ll likely still have a lot to do with your photographer and videographer, but we recommend organising your timeline to include at least 10-15 minutes of just *YOU* time. Of course, there’s the option to join your cocktail hour, you just need to think about when you’re going to get your portraits taken and how you can still incorporate some time alone. This is where the first look comes in! If you don’t mind seeing each other before the ceremony, there is the option to do a first look and take your portraits before the ceremony. This allows you to join cocktail hour, chat with your guests, and enjoy a drink and some food before the more structured reception begins! For your guests: If you are feeling worried about what your guests are going to do during cocktail hour, don’t fret! All you need to do is make sure your guests have something to do, something to eat and drink, and something to watch! I promise it’s simple! Your guests are likely going to want to catch up with each other, so already there’s something for them to do. If you throw in some lawn games, leave your guest book out, and even have a photo booth set up, you're done! Make sure you have enough food and beverages, no one wants hangry guests at their wedding! Something to watch is the trickier one during your cocktail hour, but it’s not as important as the last two points, the easiest way to do this is if you have a live band, your guests will naturally gravitate towards them, but if you don’t just make sure you have some music playing throughout! We would love to hear from you! Email us your proposal stories, questions, horror stories and advice at info@thesavethedatepodcast.com we can’t wait to react to your stories on the podcast! Remember that every wedding planning timeline will look a little different, so take this all with a grain of salt! We may sound like a broken record, but the very first thing you need to do is set your budget! The Ultimate Guide to Perfecting Your Wedding Vows

2/1/2024
In today’s episode, Sheridan and Juliette guide you through the art of crafting the perfect wedding vows. A lot of pressure is put on making your vows super special, which can often become overwhelming. But at the end of the day, writing your vows should be the easy part of wedding planning! Did you know that you don’t actually have to write personalised vows?? You can also say them privately before or after the ceremony! We recommend briefly discussing your vows with your partner to help remove some of that pressure. Go through the kind of things you want to say, the vibe you want your vows to be and if you have anything that you definitely DON’T want them saying! We give you our easy 4-step formula for writing your vows, and top it off with a bunch of tips to make sure you can execute them perfectly on the day. Start writing your vows early, and allow yourself the time to simmer on what you’ve written, it’s super normal that your first draft won’t be final. So give yourself the grace to change them as much as you need. And once you’re done, practice, practice, practice! Say them aloud multiple times, this will help to ensure you don’t stumble over as many words and gives you the opportunity to take out any potential tongue twisters! At the end of the day, if you don’t say them perfectly during the ceremony - it’s not the end of the world! Let the tears fall if you feel them coming, and embrace the feeling of speaking your feelings to your partner. If you enjoyed this episode, please subscribe and leave us a 5-star review. How To Plan Your DREAM Honeymoon

1/25/2024
In today's episode, Sheridan and Juliette share their top tips for planning the ULTIMATE honeymoon. We know that planning a holiday while in the midst of wedding planning is less than ideal, so here is our comprehensive guide to streamline your honeymoon planning process!! It may seem like a shock, but we highly recommend starting to consider your honeymoon when you start budgeting for your wedding. This will allow you to plan your budget around ALL of your plans and ensure that you won’t fall short by planning your honeymoon only a few months out. The next thing you need to consider is what kind of honeymoon you and your partner actually want! This is going to effect your budget, as well as the timing of your honeymoon and potentially your wedding. For example, if you are wanting to head to Europe for a beautiful summer vacation, but your wedding is in October in Australia, the timelines don’t quite match up. So you may need to adjust your expectations, take your honeymoon at a different time or head somewhere else! We highly recommend that all newly married couples take at least a few days after the wedding before heading off on their honeymoon. This will give you time to get all of your affairs in order, ensure you have your passports (if required) ready, and gives you time to recover after the craziness of your wedding day! To save money, start looking at flights and accommodation early and look into potentially going to see a travel agent! They will be able to do all of the heavy lifting (much like a wedding planner), so you can enjoy more of the fun stuff and plan the honeymoon of your dreams. We give you all of our best tips, from choosing your perfect wedding venue to how to save the environment when buying your invitations and stationary; we even give you some ideas on what wedding favours your guests will not only love but will actually use (or enjoy). We also remind you that you do not have to buy everything brand new for your wedding day! Buying things second-hand will be a more sustainable approach and save you money in the long run!
