#104: How I made sure to get enough calories in during adversity

5/13/2024
Life has thrown A LOT at me lately. If you don't follow me on Instagram and don't know what's going on: I dislocated my jaw and can barely chew any foods... If you have an eating disorder you may now have a little voice in your head saying "I wish what were me...", but I no longer have an eating disorder and the fact that I could barely eat did not make me happy in any way. It's exhausting and painful, yet I also know I need to make sure to get enough calories. So how did I do it? I tell you all about it in this episode. Because whatever life throws at you, you do NOT need to go back to your eating disorder ways, and I want you to know that it is possible to not even want to go back there. My guide just launched! Do you feel like you need more help recovering from your eating disorder? Whether you struggle with anorexia, bulimia, OSFED, or other (un)diagnosed disordered eating issues, I'm here to help! Right now, I'm not offering one-on-one coaching, but I did jut launch my DVK Recovery Method® Guide, full of examples, step-by-step instructions, templates, and a bit of science. The guide allows you to create your very own POA and apply my method yourself. Moreover, you'll get access to a Facebook support group where me and three other experienced admins will be giving support & advice as well. I will of course also go back to one-on-one coaching, so if you are interested in working with me in the future, be sure to shoot me a message! #103: The truth about enabling in recovery

5/6/2024
People around you may want you to recover, and maybe part of you wants to as well. Yet somehow, those around us can sometimes enable our eating disorders as well, even if they have the best intentions. Sometimes, making recovery more comfortable for someone who is struggling, can actually prevent certain parts of the eating disorder to be challenged. So how and why does that happen? What behavior may feel or seem good, but - in my eyes - is actually harmful, and what could you do instead? Tune in to find out, and don't be afraid to send this episode to those around you! My guide just launched! Do you feel like you need more help recovering from your eating disorder? Whether you struggle with anorexia, bulimia, OSFED, or other (un)diagnosed disordered eating issues, I'm here to help! #102: GI issues and chronic illness in recovery

4/29/2024
This week's episode is all about gastro-intestinal issues and chronic illness in recovery. As most of you probably know, I suffer from chronic Lyme's disease (and did so during my recovery as well), so I know a fair bit about chronic illness and recovery. However, even if you don't have any underlying health issues, you most likely will experience some physical discomfort during your recovery. I know all too well how disheartening it can be when you're trying to treat your body well, and it still hurts/hurts worse. Or how it can feel like your eating disorder actually was healthier when symptoms flare up during recovery. BUT I also know first-hand how physical discomfort/chronic illness can be a motivation/reason to recover. If you're wanting to break free from your eating disorder, but are struggling to cope with the physical discomfort during recovery, this episode is for you! I'm offering it for an early-bird price until the 2nd of May, so be sure to grab yourself a copy! I will of course also go back to one-on-one coaching, so if you are interested in working with me in the future, be sure to shoot me a message! #99: All things weight-gain

4/8/2024
Eating disorders may not be about weight, and do not necessarily lead to weight loss, but weight-gain in recovery is pretty much inevitable, because it's necessary. I can hear the wheels of your eating disorder churning at that comment, producing words like "bad" and "unhealthy", but guess what... it is neither of those things. Today's episode is all about why it isn't bad or unhealthy and in fact, pretty much the opposite. So if you find yourself thinking "help, I don't want to gain weight", tune in to today's episode! If you want to recover from your eating disorder or disordered eating - be it anorexia, bulimia, OSFED, or other (un)diagnosed disordered eating issues - on your own, or are interested in my method, be sure to follow me on Instagram (@daniellevankay). #98: The most sleep deprived podcast ep (not my best work) / how many calories does the body need?

4/1/2024
When you've struggled with an eating disorder, your idea of how much food your body needs may get a little bit distorted. Between restriction, food guilt, and diet culture, determining how many calories you actually need, can be incredibly hard. And those who experience extreme hunger often exclaim "surely I don't need to do that much catching up?!". Spoiler alert: You do. In today's episode I'll talk about how you know how much you need, why I can't tell you how much you need (and why diet culture can't either!), and why either way you don't need to count them. If you want to recover from your eating disorder or disordered eating - be it anorexia, bulimia, OSFED, or other (un)diagnosed disordered eating issues - on your own, or are interested in my method, be sure to follow me on Instagram (@daniellevankay). #97: Recovering on your own

3/25/2024
In light of the launch of my newest project, the DVK® recovery guide (launching 26th of April 2024!), today's episode is all about 'recovering on your own'. How can you recover if you don't have access to (the right) professional help? How can you translate my coaching - tips, tricks, and methods - into 'do it yourself' recovery? Why do those around you matter and where (and how) can you find non-professional support that? All these topics will be discussed in this episode. But if you want a more in-depth discussion, as well as a step-by-step explanation of my very own - tried and trusted - recovery method (that I use with my clients) and access to a supportive, recovery friendly, Facebook group, be sure to check out my guide once it launches! If you want to recover from your eating disorder or disordered eating - be it anorexia, bulimia, OSFED, or other (un)diagnosed disordered eating issues - on your own, or are interested in my method, be sure to follow me on Instagram (@daniellevankay) so you'll be notified as soon as it's launched. #92: Chronic illness/adversity in life & relapses

2/19/2024
As most of you know, I have a chronic illness (lyme's disease). While at a certain point it motivated me in my recover, chronic illness, but also life-adversity in general, can be a HUGE trigger for (relapses of) eating disorders. #87: The honest truth on whether recovery is worth it when having comorbidity

1/15/2024
Eating disorders do not always come alone. Sometimes they may be a way to cope with another issue, other times they're just there alongside it. Being chronically ill, I know all about it, and I know how your eating disorder may convince you that it isn't really worth it to recover considering you'll never be fully healthy anyway. #86: Gaining weight without the presence of extreme hunger & chronic discomfort PTSD

1/8/2024
In today's episode, I talk openly and candidly about my experience with chronic illness, stress/PTSD from my chronic illness, and about my own current weight gaining journey. If you follow me on Instagram, you've probably seen my start of my weight-gain journey that I recently embarked on, after some unintentional weight loss. While I absolutely despised and feared weight gain when I had an eating disorder, nowadays I'm actually excited about it! There's been a lot of growth mentally. However, gaining weight post eating disorder does come with it's own challenges - in the absence of extreme- and mental hunger, it's definitely a whole different experience. Listen to this episode for some words on what weight-gain and body image can look like after an eating disorder, and get inspired! #85: The plate-by-plate approach®

1/1/2024
Happy new year! We're kicking 2024 off with a review of a popular method in eating disorder recovery. The plate-by-plate approach® has been a popular method of nutritional rehabilitation in eating disorders for the past couple of years. In today's episode, I discuss what the approach looks like, the upsides, and the downsides, as well as touching on the differences between the plate-by-plate approach® and going all in. Tune in!
