#130 Sanitary Assistance Corps (SAC) to combat homelessness, poverty and mental health challenges.

5/2/2024
Joy Gilfilen interviews Ryan Bowman about creating the Sanitary Assistance Corps (SAC) program to combat homelessness, poverty and mental health challenges. As an empowerment program for life skills training through community involvement, it could be followed by the Gleaning Assistance Corps, and the Environmental Assistance Corps. Ryan's strategies are inspired by historical projects like the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) which was a Depression-era program that put young men to work in rural areas and parks throughout the country to help conservation efforts. Today it could work similarly for all ages and sexes, people who have been marginalized and displaced by civic challenges to help them stabilize and rebuild their lives. Ryan is also the host of "Ryes Up" on Spotify, tune in for stimulating innovative thinking.

#128 iChange Justice Podcast "Caring for People and Healing Trauma".

4/18/2024
Host Joy Gilfilen engages in a Civic Cafe discussion with Irene Morgan about the cultural, socioeconomic, and emotional impacts of the past few years of global upheaval. The upheaval resulted in high levels of fear due to military control implemented "for public safety." This control created ripple effects across countries, cultures, and entire industries. It caused disruptions on so many levels that it's difficult to see the long-term domino effects of shutdowns, lockdowns, and the trauma inflicted on people from different backgrounds. The discussion delves into the economic dark side of fear and how living in family units and on farms can provide a buffer against it. They also explore how media distortion of information for fear-mongering generates profit but harms people. The conversation highlights how mass media can promote mass domination and mass incarceration. Ultimately, they emphasize the importance of shifting focus towards caring for people and healing trauma.

#121-iChange Justice Podcast "Regenerative Economics" Marc Santos-NobleGoldman.com

2/29/2024
Joy Gilfilen, Host of the iChange Justice Podcast, interviews Marc Santos of NobleGoldman.com about how "Regenerative Economics" is the next step in transforming the business of injustice. It is all about learning how to value humans inside an economic system that includes rebuilding our communities. At this point, the economy is enrolled in a degenerative pattern of exclusion for the benefit of the privileged interests that control the system. To understand the complexity of the problem, we do a flashback into history. Marc explains how changes in monetary policies going back to the 70s and the Friedman Doctrine changed the balance of power in our economies in the 80s and 90s, which is even more extreme today. It created a serious imbalance in favor of "shareholder supremacy," which has been deeply misrepresented and convoluted throughout our discussions in the civic square. This has led to extreme conflicts in so many ways that it is riddled with doublespeak, greed, and extreme civic trauma. The negative impact is felt at every societal level - yet in the middle is a thread of common sense that we can use to heal the heartbreak as we reknit our society using restorative economic tools. Find iChange Justice Podcast everywhere you get your Podcasts. Thank you to our local station, KOYS-LPFM 94. for airing our show every Thursday at Noon. #118-iChange Justice Podcast-Host Joy Gilfilen talks with Don Kirchner, author of Beyond the Chaos.

2/8/2024
Our conversation explored the evolving landscape of the justice system, drawing on his unique perspective as a former federal prisoner and his past work across different jails and prisons nationwide. He shared his experiences assisting inmates, jail commanders, and other officials in achieving personal empowerment and driving systemic reform. Our conversations started with personal accountability, and illustrated how the single actions of one person can ripple through the lives of others personally, in family lives, and transform the systems. They are indelibly interconnected. We discussed how the proof is in the pudding as they say, and we talk about touring the new Justice Center in Yavapai County AZ. We discussed how this facility has embraced, enlarged upon and then implemented the ideas that were originally sparked by Irene Morgan working with Don over 16 years ago related to new reentry, restorative justice, and direct services that focus on rehabilitation. The results are remarkable. Thank you to our local broadcast partner KOYS LPFM 94.1 Bellingham. Find us on Spotify and everywhere you get your podcasts.
