Have you ever ignored your intuition, only to regret it? A big part of being able to let your gut feeling guide you during stressful situations is to have a cool head and remain calm. UNCUT: Andrea Petković – learning to let go

1/10/2024

Change can be good, but learning to let go of something familiar – whether that’s a job, a hobby or a way of life – can be difficult to navigate. As Andrea Petković knows full well, moving on from her life in professional tennis came with significant challenges, including a loss of identity and the need to find a new passion to fill the void.Professional athletes are not the only individuals to face this challenge. It’s something that eventually everyone will encounter, whether this is transitioning from school to work life, starting a different job or stopping work altogether. In a very honest chat with host Cédric, Andrea talks about how she went through a period of lying to herself before retiring from her professional tennis career in 2022. Tactical body language – with tennis player Elena Rybakina

1/8/2024
Outside of the more common mental and physical techniques athletes use to win, there is one lesser known tactic that many athletes deploy – consciously and unconsciously – to gain an edge on their opponent. Using body language to your advantage is not unheard of, but how do you actually use it in competition? Tennis ace Elena Rybakina uses non-verbal communication on the court to not only control her emotions but also the game. Even if it's not going so well on Elena's side of the court, all the opponent sees is a composed masterpiece of total control. Hosts Cèdric and York explain how using body language also has a positive impact on yourself. By practising simple posture exercises, you can promote and build confident body language that has a subtle yet extensive impact on yourself and your environment. Ultrarunner Fernanda Maciel – using meditation to help set records on the world’s highest peaks

12/18/2023
What would you do if you were stuck at the bottom of a crevasse somewhere high up a mountain, completely alone? Fernanda Maciel is the type of person to not panic – she knows exactly what to do. As an endurance athlete who specialises in running up and down high mountains, she spends a lot of time with herself. Fernanda has to know how to deal with this, and how to juggle the physical endurance that’s needed from her body to complete even her most daring runs. Meditation not only saved her life while she was stuck inside the crevasse, but is also the outlet through which she controls this mental and physical stress. Even if you’re not planning on competing in ultra-endurance events anytime soon, meditation should play a fixed role in your daily routine. This does not have to last hours – it can be as short as only a few minutes – but the skills you learn from this will leave you wondering how you ever lived without it. Mountain bike slopestyle king Emil Johansson – developing courage

12/11/2023
"The fear is always there but it depends how much you tune into it and how much you listen to it.” Swedish mountain biker Emil Johansson might be the most successful slopestyle rider in the history of his sport but, as he reveals in this episode of Mind Set Win, fear is still an emotion he experiences every time he puts his helmet on. To launch his bike off staggering jumps and perform innovative tricks, the three-time Triple Crown of Slopestyle winner explains how trusting in his ability and not second guessing his decisions are the foundation of his winning mindset and the key to his dominance on the track. Hosts Cédric and York explore how Emil is able to think rationally in key moments and provide a step-by-step plan to help us all train to become more courageous in daily life. The exercise involves frequently putting yourself in uncomfortable situations and challenging yourself to be rational in trying to understand where your fear is coming from and why you’re feeling it. Regardless, when being your own coach, don’t be disheartened by failure because, as Emil says, you build your courage and self-belief through trial and error. Two-time NBA All-Star Pascal Siakam – mental recovery

12/5/2023
"It's important for the mind and body to be able to rest and have some time for yourself." While the idea that you need to stay active and consistently push your limits to achieve your goals might sound correct, during this episode of Mind Set Win, we learn how recovery is also key to our satisfaction levels. NBA All-Star Pascal Siakam knows a thing or two about winning and how crucial finding a balance between recovery and training is. In this interview, Pascal talks about life in the relentless NBA, what it takes to stay at the top and play almost every single night, and Toronto Raptors’ 2019 Championship triumph. In a bid to understand how to avoid mental overload, hosting duo Cédric and York take a look at the science behind how beta brainwaves stimulate your brain and alpha brainwaves help it relax and recharge. They then look at what daily activities we can do that focus on enhancing alpha waves and reducing the mental load on our brain. This includes things like reading, cooking, talking to your favourite people, listening to music or a podcast, yoga or meditation. Have a listen and see if one of the activities might work for you!
