4/25/2023
In the fifth entry of The Eating Disorder Diaries, Amy discusses her experiences with nearly 2 decades of therapy and how that has helped her heal from her eating disorder. She talks about the cost of therapy, the frustration at not being able to find a therapist, and talks about some of the things she really has not jived with in sessions (like a therapist calling her manic or telling her that her PMS was just no big deal). In the second half of the first segment, Amy drills into EMDR and what that's looked like for her in sessions. She talks about the 8 phases of EMDR and applies personal experiences to each phase in her own personal sessions and discusses how processing her trauma and sexual assault has helped her heal her ED. Entry 3: My Child has an Eating Disorder - A Parent's Perspective

3/27/2023
In the third entry of The Eating Disorder Diaries, Amy interviews her parents Chris and Cindy Goeckel to get their perspectives on what it was like to have a child with an eating disorder. They get into the details on how they found out Amy had bulimia, what they did to get her help, and what they wish they would have known and done differently in retrospect. Spoiler alert: Eating disorders are serious and oftentimes treatment for young teenagers is not adequate, like it was in Amy's case. Entry 2: Why do we feel so much shame behind our eating disorders?

3/26/2023
In the second entry of The Eating Disorder Diaries, Amy shares statistics about eating disorders, surprising herself with her findings of how many people EDs truly impact. She discusses the shame she felt behind her eating disorder, which is something she knows others have experienced as well. Those with EDs tend to have a shame narrative about themselves, so she talks about how to break that shame narrative and start telling yourself a kinder narrative. Finally, Amy gives 4 examples of things she has implemented in her life to get her to a point of recovery, and wraps up the episode talking about one of her tried and true routines: journaling.
