S1E26: From Survive to Thrive with Tanner Gers - Part 1

8/7/2016
21-year-old Tanner (2004) had big dreams! He was getting ready to go into the military to serve his country but this dream crashed as he was impaled by a tree through the head in an auto accident which rendered him legally blind. The next phase of Tanner’s life was filled with multiple brain surgeries, reconstructive surgeries and psych evaluations. But the biggest tragedy in Tanner’s life, wasn’t losing his sight - it was NOT living life, and NOT taking every day by the horns. As you can imagine, he was in a lot of pain, angry and severely depressed. ‘’I felt like my life was pretty much over’’ – Tanner Gers The big shift - Wise words from dad ‘it could always be worse’ shifted his perspective gave him a positive outlook on his life and planted the seeds of appreciation and gratitude. Discovering baseball for the blind brought joy back in his life and enabled him to express himself physically on a level plain field. This super motivated him and sparked a desire to be as fit as possible and sent him on the path to more competitive sports and Paralympics. Since that fateful accident in 2004 Tanner has reinvented himself into a pro-athlete and an all-round high performer. He has graduated from college and has won several sporting laurels including 2011 Para Pan American gold, 2012 US Paralympic trials gold medal and National Beep Baseball Association World Series Offensive MVP. He has also ignited his entrepreneurial passions and founded a sports performance membership site called The Athlete Summit. I know this man outside of this interview and I can vouch that he is an all-round high performer and an unstoppable force for good. When he is not training for the Paralympics in Rio 2016, he is lifting others (metaphorically speaking) with his motivational speaking and free podcast - The Creative Success Show. Key lessons from Tanner’s story: • Learn how self-pity and complaining is the recipe for hitting rock bottom • Learn the power of perspective and positive outlook to create success • Learn to use of mindset to break through obstacles Click here for part 2 of this interview, when Tanner shares his daily habits that keep him progressing towards his goals and shares the lessons from his experience of overcoming adversity and thriving from it. S1E23: From Fortune 100 to Laptop Lifestyle with Farnoosh Brock - Part 2

7/26/2016
Farnoosh Brock started her own company, Prolific Living Inc., to fulfill her diverse entrepreneurial passions. As an author, speaker and business coach, she helps business owners and executives achieve new heights of leadership and success. In her spare time, Farnoosh loves traveling extensively with her husband and business partner, Andy Brock and stays devoted to her daily Ashtanga yoga practice. Farnoosh on Clarity: Farnoosh believes that the first step to starting anew is CLARITY. ''If you are clear on what it is that you need to create for yourself and WHY, then few things can get in your way.'' While clarity is paramount, she recognizes that it is not easy to find it. Here is an exercise she recommends to get clear on your personal vision: Make a list of all the things in your life you don't want and why you don't want them. Aim for 30 items on your list. Then rank them in order of how badly you want to get rid of them. You will start to see the top few things that are non-negotiable. For Farnoosh, she realized that she didn't want to have a boss and it was non-negotiable for her. What is your non-negotiable? She further clarifies that while lack of confidence sometimes hinders our progress, what often holds us back from starting something new is not knowing what we want or how to get there. ''Lack of confidence doesn't hold us back so much, I think its lack of clarity.'' Speaking of clarity, download your FREE Self-Awareness toolkit to help you get clear on who you are and what you want in life. Farnoosh on Fear of being Judged: I am fascinated with the psychology of confidence (recommend The Code of Confidence ) and the more I read and observe, the more I realize that women in general battle with self-confidence more so than men. I will go into more details in another post but I wanted to know Farnoosh's take on it. As a woman, she has sympathy for our kind, for our fear of being judged. She suggests that whenever we are feeling the grip of fear of failure or fear of being judged, we just stop! We allow ourselves time to stop and think about what is the worst that could happen. Once we embrace our fears, they don't hold us back anymore. She admits however that this issue and its solution is not so black and white. For her full analysis, subscribe to the Start Anew Show and find out what more Farnoosh had to say on this subject. Click to view: show page on Awesound

S1E22: From Fortune 100 to Laptop Lifestyle with Farnoosh Brock - Part 1

7/24/2016
In this interview on the Start Anew Show, Farnoosh Brock of prolificliving.com shares her story of of quitting her 6-figure Fortune 100 job to starting her own business. She is very transparent with how she felt about her 1st career, how her 2nd act career evolved from a passion project, the time and effort it took to replace her old income, the twists and turns including how her first product bombed. Farnoosh talks about her boredom and frustration with her 9-5 that progressed over the years. The subtle sings of discontent had been there for a while but it was around her 8 year mark in her corporate career, when she was the most successful she had been but also felt the most unfulfilled. Can you relate to that feeling? What do most of us do in times like this, we go into escapism mode and binge on Netflix but not Farnoosh! Farnoosh created productive distractions for herself by starting a few new hobbies such as writing, dancing and yoga. One of these new hobbies was to start a few hobby blogs in 2008. Her blogging experience turned out to be a breath of fresh air. She was really enjoying writing and her readers were responding very well to it and she was growing an online following. It was in the summer of 2010 that she attended Blogworld in Las Vegas. The speakers at this event opened her eyes to the possibilities with blogging, social media and the ‘underworld of online business’. This is where true inspiration and determination found its place in her mind and heart. She came back from Blogworld 2010, with a dream, a vague plan and a determination to go after her dream to become her own boss and start an online business. In the months that followed, she continued to work in her 9-5 but she no longer saw it as a career, she saw it as a job. While she still performed well at her job with great work ethic, she held back on evening socials and going over and beyond like she had in the past. The biggest mind shift was that she stopped looking at her blog as a hobby but instead she started treating it as side business, a side hustle. She immersed herself in the world of online business and social media, learnt a lot, implemented a lot and started growing her blog based business. One of her earliest strategies was to focus on turning her blog readers into subscribers and building a relationship with them. With her husband, they agreed to halve their living expenses so she could quit her job and start working on her business full time. And only 6 months after the fateful summer in Vegas, she did! She screwed her 9-5! The rest as they say is history! Tune into the episode to find out about the diverse projects Farnoosh worked on in her first year in the business to create multiple revenue streams and how they opened doors for more opportunities.
