In this episode of the Lure Fishing Podcast over a year on from when we chatted on the very first episode i was delighted to catch up with Michael Kelly founder of Evo Bass Lures. I was very excited to talk to Michael about the new lure he has developed called the Dagger. A very unique swimbait - shad type lure. Knowing Michael and his knowledge and attention to detail in his lure development I know this lure is going to be something special. We also look back on the success of the Lance and Sabre Evo lures and get an insight into how Michael developed the dagger. A really fascinating insight into Michaels world of lure making and we chat about the bass fishing of course, enjoy.

In this episode if the Lure Fishing Podvast i chat with David Lyons from Tackling Minds. Tackling minds was formed in February 2020 David Lyons was inspired to start Tackling Minds, as he had suffered from past mental health problems, and fishing played a vital role in him managing his illness. He claims that if it wasn’t for fishing, he doesn’t think he’d be here to tell his story. David now wants to pass on his knowledge, gained from his own experiences, to show other people how fishing can benefit them too. And so, sitting on the bank with his rods in his hands, Tackling Minds was born. Tackling Minds aims to get people, from all walks of life, into fishing. Be it, Mental Health, Social Deprivation, addiction and recovery, disabilities, Families and Long-Term Health. The work Tackling Minds has done so far is amazing. The NHS now prescribes fish as a treatment for depression on the NHS as a direct result of Tackling Minds. This is a lovely conversation with a great guy very worth a listen.

In Episode 27 of the Lure Fishing Podcast I catch up with passionate bass angler Matt Cumbers. In 2017 Matt decided that he wanted to try design and produce his own lures. It was then Drift was born and fast forward to 2024 Drift Lures are with over 100 tackle suppliers in the UK and Ireland. Matt is passionate about his lure fishing and he gives a great insight into what it takes to get from concept stage to actual designing and creating a lure that not only works well but is durable and affordable. If you have ever though about designing your own lure as many of us have, this is a really interesting conversation. Matt is very passionate about his lure making and shares some of the vast knowledge that he has gained through the designing and testing of his lures. Drifts ethos is not just to sell lures, but to innovate, teach and promote conservation.

Danny has worked in the fishing industry since his teens Working with high end lure brands such as Shimano, Costa, Megabass, IMA, Lucky craft, Sakura, Savage gear, Zman. He was also team coordinator and social media manager for Costa Glasses Uk. Danny is also passionate about Fly fishing working with brands like Vision and Guideline along with other various fly tying materials company’s His current work within fishing continues down the brand ambassador lines as well as splitting being a full time single dad to a 5 year old Daughter and working in his local tackle shop. Danny is an original angling influencer and all round social media guru He has a huge passion for all types of angling in particularly Bass and Wrasse fishing. In this podcast he shares some of his vast knowledge on tactics and watercraft for his angling that he has well and truly honed over the years.

In this fantastic episode I chat with experienced striped bass fisherman John Glynn. John originally from Galway in Ireland has been living and fishing in New York for decades. John gives a fascinating insight into fishing in the Urban New York Metro waterways including catching bass in waters at the end of the runway of JFK airport. There is not only bass to be caught here but Bluefish, False albacore and much more. John is one of the most knowledgeable anglers in that area and in this podcast he talks about tackle and tactics that he has honed over many years of experience, including some of his most productive lures. What a way to kick of the first episode of 2024 with the one and only Matt Hayes. Matt is known worldwide for his angling exploits and his knowledge of angling is second to none. Currently based in his salmon fishing lodge on the Gaula river in Norway Matt takes time out to chat about all thing angling, including catching his epic 50lb Salmon. From his Salmon fishing in Norway to his pioneering of lure fishing in the UK, his love of his home stretch on the river Severn and so much more in between. This is a fascinating and captivating chat with a legend of angling.

In this episode of the lure fishing podcast, I am delighted to be joined by well-known Brainhacker, Mentalist, TV personality, accomplished, and passionate Angler Keith Barry. Keith tells us what angling means to him. He shares some of his fishing adventures from bass fishing to salmon fishing and cod fishing, and we chat about how fishing can really help our mental health. Sam Daniel is a Bass Angler based in Jersey who runs an excellent YouTube channel called beneath the waves fishing. In this podcast he gives a great insight into his approach to bass fishing, including tactics, watercraft and lure selection. Sam's approach to bass fishing and the delivery of his information makes his youtbe channel one of the best out there. He also tells us about his amazing 12lb lure caught bass this year and the events that led to this fantastic catch.

In this episode Henry Gilbey chats to me openly about his recent heart attack, the warning signs, and thankfully his successful road to recovery. And of course we also chat about all things Bass fishing, this episode is packed with information and advice on all thing lure fishing. In this episode I chat with David Solling Johnsen expert sea trout angler on the Westin pro team based in Denmark. His fishing is focused mainly in the southern part of Seeland, Denmark and the Islands, where he primarily targets seatrout on lures. David's knowledge of seatrout habits and behavior has been built up over years of studying one of the most difficult fish to target in saltwater. Targeting other species also David has within the last few seasons caught: 70cm+ Seatrout, 2kg+ Perch and 10kg+ Pike. A great angler with expert knowledge, David shares some of his most productive tactics on this podcast.

In this episode I chat with top LRF (Light Rock Fishing) angler Drew McMinn who is based in Belfast. LRF -light rock fishing is where anglers target mini species on ultra light gear. It is a fantastic way to get into lure fishing or hone your lure fishing skills even more. Drew is the man if you want to know anything about LRF. In this podcast he gives lots of advice for anyone thinking of taking up light rock fishing. Fishing Harbours, sandy beaches, rocky coastline and even freshwater Drew targets a multitude of species and has a wealth of knowledge to share. He can be found working in Befast Angling Centre and is always on hand to offer help and advice.

In episode 15 of the lure fishing podcast, I have a wonderful chat with renowned artist David Miller. Artist, Angler, Author, Diver, David has spent a lifetime studying marine and river life in the natural environment and his passion for nature is infectious. David's first book was published in 2008 (Beneath the Surface) and he has featured in many magazine articles, both nationally and internationally, including Trout & Salmon, Angler's Mail, Angling Times, Sea Angler and The Field. His paintings have also featured on the Environment Agency Rod Licence in the UK since 2008 and in 2014 ten of his images were used on a specially commissioned set of Royal Mail stamps. David has spent considerable time in the water studying bass, in this really informative chat he gives us some great insights to their behavior as well as talking all things nature and art.

In episode 14 of the lure fishing podcast, I speak with Karim Rhalid, a fishing guide based in Morroco. Karim hosts guided fishing trips to Dakla in Morocco where you can fish for Leerfish to 50lb as well as Pompano, spotted bass, bluefish, and many other species. Karim gives a great insight into what to expect on this trip and gives advice in relation to tackle and techniques. Also, an accomplished bass angler Karim also tells us what the bass fishing is like in Morocco. So if catching big 50lb Leerfish on the lure in the amazing blue water of the edge of the Western Sahara is something that you would like to do, then have a listen to this.

In the episode of the lure fishing podcast I chat with top striped bass angler Brandon Sausele. Brandon is based in Long Island new York with Montauk the mecca of striped bass fishing as his back yard. Enjoying a great season so far Brandon has had some whopping bass up to 50lb and he gives some really interesting insights into his approach to striped bas fishing. So if you are dreaming of a trip to Montauk or have already been or just want to pick up some great advice to incorporate into your own lure fishing, this one is well worth a listen.

In this episode of the lure fishing podcast I chat with top angler James Barry, James is based in Waterford and has been lure and fly fishing for bass on the copper coast for many years. Starting out of the rivers he has honed his fly fishing skills which lead him to pursuing bass and salmon on the fly. James talks about the comparisons between fly fishing and lure fishing for bass and gives some fantastic tips and insights. He also talks about some of his salmon fishing exploits and how he takes what he learns from his salmon fishing and incorporates it in his approach to bass fishing. James also has a marine science background and gives a great insight into his knowledge on bass behavior and habits. This is a really interesting chat and not to be missed.

Wrasse on Lures - In episode of the lure fishing podcast I talk to wrasse lure fishing expert Damion Fryer. Damion targets wrasse on the lures and really has fine tuned his skills over the years fishing the rocky coastline around Cornwall. In the Podcast he talks about his success using lures like the Pirate Lures Wrasser , Senkos, Ceature baits and gives great information on how best to present them and what rigs he prefers. If you are like me and you don't know much about wrasse fishing you are really going to enjoy this one. Damion is very knowledgeable and his passion for wrasse fishing really comes across in this podcast.
