The Wild Series

5/13/2024
Do you have a list of books you refer to your clients? If so, Lynn has a series she recommends you add to your must-read list for all mothers! In today’s podcast, Lynn speaks with Physical Therapist, author and founder of Holistic Pelvic Care, Tami Lynn Kent as she releases an updated version of her Wild Mothering book. Tami has been working in women’s health for over 25 years and has a 3 book “Wild” series that she wrote to help connect mothers with the wisdom and the energy in their womb and pelvic space: Wild Feminine, Wild Mother (formerly Mothering from Your Center) and Wild Creative. These books explore the connection between the feminine centers where information is received and processed and how when women are taught to read this information, they can open themselves up to the complete energetics of the body. Tami’s second book, Wild Mothering, has been released as a second addition with a new chapter that is written from an older mother’s perspective as well as the original chapters that were written from the perspective of a new mother. Mothering can be a soul crushing journey at times, but Tami Lynn Kent provides some great resources in her Wild Series that can support moms and connect them with their own inner wisdom. This podcast is a reminder for all pelvic health therapists that the pelvic bowl contains amazing medicine. We need to learn to listen to and follow this wisdom. Assessing the Pregnant Body

4/29/2024
Do you see clients during pregnancy even if they are not having pain? Do you assess their pelvic floor muscle tightness and their ability to lengthen/push? In today’s podcast Lynn talks about a postpartum client she is working with who was never assessed during her pregnancy and ended up having a traumatic birth. In the USA, medical providers focus on keeping the baby and mom alive in the birth process. Yet we as a medical/health community can be doing so much more to prepare mom’s body for birth. We can learn how to assess the sacral position, pelvic floor muscles and the uterine ligaments to get the body in the best position possible for a smooth birth. Another thing we can do is teach moms how to push prior to being in labor, so they will know what this feels like and how to engage their pelvic muscles when it is time to push during childbirth. A lack of preparation can lead to longer and more traumatic births. Listen in to learn more about Lynn’s case study and tips on how to better support your pregnant clients and prepare them for a smoother birth. If you would like to learn more about treating the pregnant body please check out and join the waitlist for the 2024 online cohort of the Holistic Treatment of the Pregnant Body that is starting in May 2024. Round Ligament in Pregnancy

4/22/2024
Is your client’s pregnant belly squashed? Is the belly greater from side to side as opposed to vertical? In today’s podcast Lynn talks about working with the round ligament to allow more space for the baby within the abdominal cavity. When your pregnant client comes to you with a greater transverse position of the belly it is important to treat the round ligament. The round ligament is a key component to decreasing the squished look of the uterus. In combination with an inversion, it can create space for a more vertical presentation for the baby which can lead to a smoother birth. For more information, you can also check out Lynn’s recent case presentations on treating the ligaments of the uterus. How to Fight Fairly

3/18/2024
Have you had someone question you on your perspective? Were you able to stay neutral or did you get defensive? In today’s podcast, Lynn’s guest The Physio Detective, Antony Lo, talks about how remaining open in a conversation can help you see what the underlying objective or reasoning is behind someone’s words. When we throw out the entirety of a person’s experience because we disagree with their terminology or explanation, then we are shutting down the conversation and missing an opportunity to educate and create growth. Antony explains that when we approach a conversation with an open mind and in a respectful manner that values someone’s perspective, even when it is different from our own, we can create challenging and meaningful conversation that allows all participants to grow and learn without triggering a defensive response. Staying open minded and neutral can be difficult, but knowing everyone is on a journey with different experiences to share, can help overcome disagreements in reasoning and allow all perspectives to be voiced. Are You Doing Intravaginal Work?

2/26/2024
If you are a pelvic health practitioner not doing intravaginal work then this episode is for you. If your practice does include intravaginal work do you know how to respectfully enter your client’s body? Is your work pain free for your clients? In today’s episode, Lynn talks about the need for more pelvic floor practitioners to perform intravaginal assessments in a way that is respectful and pain free for clients. Today, you will be challenged with multiple questions as to why you are not performing intravaginal work with your client if you are licensed to do so, and if you are, is it respectful? The Rhythm of the Cycle

2/5/2024
Why is it that seasons and times of the month impact females’ energy levels? In today’s episode Lynn speaks with Certified Birth Healing Specialist and owner of The Wild Orange Tree in Australia, occupational therapist Janelle Gullan. Janelle explains the unique value of each phase of a female's monthly cycle. The women’s monthly cycle is coordinated to the seasons of the year. Winter is synonymous with the bleeding phase. This is a time of rest and restoration where females are able to release what is no longer serving them. Spring is the follicular phase. It is a time of increased energy where the fruit from the winter season is able to develop. Summer coordinates with ovulation. It has increased energy and is our most productive time. Fall is the luteal phase. Here there is an energy for reflection: how did the last cycle or year go and what could be different? Pushing During Labor

1/29/2024
How do you describe pushing to your pregnant clients? In today’s podcast Lynn talks with birth educator and doula, Chantal Traub, about pushing during labor. Many mom’s don’t want to poop during the pushing phase of labor and therefore tighten their pelvic floor to avoid this. This holds the baby and makes for longer labor. The pelvic floor needs to be able to lengthen in order for the baby to come out. Practicing this through the use of tactile cues is important so the body can instinctually lengthen during labor even if the birthing person has had an epidural. You will want to listen into today’s podcast to learn the tricks that Chantal uses with her clients and teaches in her classes to relax the pelvic floor and allow for lengthening. Be sure to check out Chantal’s Birth Healing Summit interview coming April 2024 on supporting clients in the second stage of labor. In her 20-plus years in practice, she has become internationally acclaimed for her expertise on the pelvic floor and her Pushing Power technique. Early on, Traub identified a severe lack of preparation among birthing people for the pushing stage of labor. She observed that in birth classes, this essential topic was glossed over. Thus began a mission to properly educate and teach birthing moms—and professionals in the field—to better understand the pelvic floor; through her classes, her one-on-one work and her doula practice. Traub speaks often on the subject of pelvic floor health and safe, effective pushing. She is a regular educator for Global Pelvic Health Alliance, American Physical Therapy, New Jersey and My Pelvic Floor Muscles, and has been featured on many podcasts, including Next Question, with Katie Couric and The Women’s Health Podcast. She presented at the Polyvagal Institute Conference in 2022. Connecting to the Body to Release Trauma

1/15/2024
How many different Parts do you have? Not like multiple personalities but we all have parts and in today’s episode Lynn talks with Danielle Carron a therapist/coach about IFS and SE and how these practices can help clinicians meet clients where they are and better support a client’s healing journey. In today’s episode Lynn talks with Danielle Carron, M.S., M.A., SEP, LPC, about Internal Family Systems and Somatic Experiencing Therapy and how these practices can help clinicians meet clients where they are and better support a client’s healing journey. Dr. Richard Schwartz, PhD, in his book No Bad Parts, describes Internal Family Systems (IFS) as a way to approach trauma by connecting to an individual’s core or true self. Danielle explains how IFS contains 3 main categories or parts that once identified can help heal trauma: Self or Core - the part that is unshakeable and resilientExiles - the parts that carry pain, often emotional painProtectors - the parts that try to protect the self from exiles (pain) Somatic Experiencing (SE) Therapy was created by Peter Levine, PhD, and is based on the idea that trauma gets trapped in the body and by bringing connection and mindfulness to the sensations of the body one can bring prior traumas or events to completion within the system. Danielle explains how she uses IFS in relationship with SE to address the 3 main categories of self, exiles, and protectors. She helps her clients gain perspective and bring curiosity to identify the exiles and protectors. By moving through the events that created the exiles and protectors with mindfulness and connection, the self or core can let go of what is trapped and an individual can heal. Listen to today’s podcast to learn more about IFS, SE, and what you can do as a practitioner to pull in some of these pieces to help your clients in their healing journeys. The 3 Energy Centers

1/8/2024
Are you living from just your brain or just your heart? Where do you make decisions from? Welcome to season two of the Birth Healing Summit Podcast. In today’s episode, Lynn discusses the 3 energy centers of the body and how connecting these centers can change how you make decisions and be in your life. The 3 heart centers are the head (what you think), the heart (what you feel), and the womb (your spiritual connection). In Chinese medicine, the head is the source of the most subtle energy, the womb has the most substantial energy, and the heart is moderate. It is not uncommon to find a heart energetically pulled forward in the chest. This can represent a false sense of “I am okay world.” When using a 3-energy center balancing technique, the results are life-changing. If you are interested in learning how to balance the 3 energy centers of the body check out the Birth Healing Intensive (a 9-month program that is both career and life-changing). Reflections and Looking Forward

1/1/2024
Have you taken the time to reflect on 2023 and check in with yourself on your goals for 2024 and beyond? In today’s episode Lynn shares her reflections from 2023 and endeavors for 2024. Lynn talks about the ups and downs from the year including changes in staff, a successful 9th Birth Healing Summit, gratitude for how the Summit has taught her information before it even hits the research, and the launch of two great courses through the Institute for Birth Healing: Advanced Postpartum Techniques (perfect for those who have completed the Holistic Treatment of the Postpartum Pelvis course) and Treating the Postpartum Pelvis (a must for any practitioner who treats clients with low back pain or SIJ dysfunction). Lynn also shares about what is to come in 2024, including the much anticipated Birth Healing Intensive (a 9-month program that is both career and life-changing), a new and improved Birth Healing Certification program, and the 10th Birth Healing Summit that will focus on pregnancy and labor. A quick note, the Summit will no longer be free in 2024 as a nominal charge will apply for this career changing information. Lynn will also be attending APTA’s Combined Sections Meeting in February and has set a goal to present her own research and data in 2025 about how the treatment techniques she uses change the pelvic bones. She is currently working hard to collect the data for presentation at the 2025 conference. A message from Lynn: I hope you all are able to take the time you need to reflect and create goals for 2024! Cheers to a fantastic year ahead! Have a comment or question about today’s episode? I would love to hear from you. Message me on Instagram or Facebook, or Email Me.
