After some horror movie talk, we get into our lists, and try to go beyond the typical Fall playlists and branch into those songs that capture the many moods and feelings of the transitional season, while pondering just how many Neil Young songs could fit on this list, and why does the the impressionistic guitar stylings of so many shoegaze influenced bands work so well? Episode 15 - DEAD AGAIN pt. 3

10/17/2023
(Part 3 of 3) We have come to the final batch of recorded songs, hopefully finishing as strong as the band did. We talk about the lyrical themes, the production, and the new sounds introduced on the album, before giving our final take on it. After that, we each offer up a song we would have liked to hear the band cover during this era, and give our recommendations for other music to check out. (Disclaimer: This series was recorded in September 2023. We were not trying to be topical, it just worked out that way.)

Episode 14 - DEAD AGAIN pt. 2

10/6/2023
(Part 2 of 3) On today's episode, we're digging into the opening salvo of tracks off the brilliant and underrated DEAD AGAIN. We start out with another world-exclusive from the PIKM vaults: a very early demo version of the title track! After that, we talk about what makes this album unique in the band's catalog, and continue to lament the death of Peter and end of the band. (Please note, this series was recorded in September 2023. It was not our intent to comment on current events, it just ended up working out that way.)

Episode 13 - DEAD AGAIN pt. 1

9/15/2023
We're back! We suffered some personal setbacks, and a tragic fire at the PIKM Foundation HQ, but we are finally getting to the Drab Four's final (and most overlooked) album, DEAD AGAIN! After giving our listeners a quick update on the current status of the show and the foundation, we do some reminiscing about the year 2007. We talk about the sorry state of mainstream music, the explosion of truly excellent underground heavy music and its adoption by the much-maligned "hipster" class, and where our boys fit into this mess (or rather, didn't.) After an update on what the fellas had been up to between this and the previous record, we get slightly confused by the timeline, ponder Peter's return to Catholicism, and read some quotes from the band about the making of the album. Stay tuned for part 2, where we will dive into the album itself, review the songs, and discuss where we place it in the band's catalog overall.

BUTT LIKE A HOLE 0: Industrial Primer

7/25/2023
We're taking a short break from the Type O content to bring you the first episode in our new ongoing bonus series, BUTT LIKE A HOLE, taking a look at the short-lived industrial-rock scene of the mid-'90s. In the wake of Nine Inch Nails' breakthrough success, the major labels scrambled to capitalize, resulting in a host of bands that all kind of sounded like they were trying to re-write NIN's smash hit, Head Like A Hole. We have have affectionately taken to calling this music "butt-dustrial" - a melding of butt rock and industrial music. On this first episode, Jeff, our resident industrial aficionado, gives us a crash course in the genre, starting at the beginning and working our way up to the '90s, when it would have its brief moment in the spotlight. If you like what you hear, check out this expanded playlist Jeff made to compliment this episode: https://open.spotify.com/playlist/3S63qrWje0mRSE2Y5sLXt6?si=1018adf9c30842b8 (Please note: this is not the NIN series we have been teasing. This is just a fun little bonus that we will be revisiting periodically.)

5/16/2023
On part 2 of WORLD COMING DOWN, we 'Skip It' and get straight to our track-by-track breakdown - we're talking death, addiction, malfunctioning car stereos, exploding livers, and doing a lot more awful singing. Episode 08 - WORLD COMING DOWN pt. 1

5/1/2023
On today's super-sized episode, we begin to tackle the absolute behemoth that is WORLD COMING DOWN. We talk about what makes it such a tough yet rewarding listen, the crushing disappointment the band felt after the lackluster sales of October Rust, and how they were once again left out in the cold by another massive shift in popular music, before we read and react to quotes from the band. We also cover the year 1999 in general, the dire state of rock radio at the time, and get majorly sidetracked plumbing the depths of the Woodstock '99 lineup. - Thanks again for listening, and stay tuned for part 2!

Episode 06 - OCTOBER RUST pt. 2

4/19/2023
After a small delay, OCTOBER RUST pt. 2 is finally here! We give our track-by-track analysis, which essentially amounts to a whole lot of breathless praise and gushing, talk about why we think Josh and Kenny do not get enough recognition, discuss the signature production style employed on the record, and Jeff talks about the best song to eulogize Peter with (can you guess), causing Jesse to get misty-eyed in the process. - Elsewhere, we consider what acts we would have liked to see cover Type O, talk about the somewhat controversial signature production style of the album, delve into the Pagan themes in the lyrics, make a quick pit stop in Movie Corner, and play a clip from a new PBS documentary from Ken Burns, THE TINDER WAR. - OCTOBER RUST pt. 3 is already in the can and will be dropping in just a couple of days. We went way long on this one, and figuring no one wanted to listen to us yap for 2.5 hours straight, decided to split this one down the middle - this episode covers everything up to Die With Me, with all subsequent tracks on the next episode. Sorry again for the delay, see you all in a couple days!

4/1/2023
On today's episode, we are finally delving into our personal favorite, OCTOBER RUST! After a short message from a famous celebrity listener, we talk about what makes the album such an outlier in their catalog, and why it failed to live up to the band's expectations. We also get into the rapidly changing musical climate of 1996, compare our favorite scatting vocalists, and go back to the well for some MORTAL KOMBAT: ANNIHILATION soundtrack talk, before Jeff gives an impromptu review of SCREAM VI (spoilers possible.) Stay tuned for part two, coming in two weeks, when we will go track-by-track with the album, and give our final verdict! Episode 04 - BLOODY KISSES pt. 2

3/17/2023
On the conclusion to our two-part BLOODY KISSES series, we're diving headfirst into the track list, discussing each song and the album as whole. Elsewhere, we talk about what it was like being a horny kid in the '90s with no internet access, imagine Peter Steele as a member of various '70s musical acts, and talk about just how fun it is to imitate him. And finally, as always, we each suggest a song we would have liked to hear the band cover in this era, and give album recommendations based on it. Don't forget to rate, review and subscribe wherever you're listening to us! It's a huge help in getting the show out to more people, and we greatly appreciate it. Bonus: MORTAL KOMBAT

3/11/2023
And now, for a taste of things to come! For our very first bonus episode, we are tackling the soundtrack to 1995's MORTAL KOMBAT, the industrial/metal/EDM compilation album that gave us our very first taste of Type O Negative. Before going track-by-track with the album and giving our take on each of its songs, we talk about the games and the controversy surrounding them, and the impact the movie had on us personally. We also take the time to make fun of the absolutely abysmal sequel, give tips on how to win at laser tag, and Jeff tells us the best band to use to break up with someone. Episode 03 - BLOODY KISSES pt. 1

3/3/2023
On today's episode of POD IS KILLING ME, we have arrived at the beginning of the band's peak era, the absolutely monumental and groundbreaking BLOODY KISSES! We discuss why it was such a Great Leap Forward for the band, as well as the album's reception by the public and the record label. Elsewhere, we talk about the musical climate of the time, the Beavis & Butthead effect, the difference between a cover and a parody, and introduce the show's first sponsor. We're splitting this and all subsequent albums into multiple episodes, as there is so much more for us to talk about with these, so stay tuned for part 2, where we'll dive into the full tracklist of this monster. We're also happy to report that Jeff's audio issues have been rectified, so this should should hopefully be a less grating listening experience.
