The Rising Cost of Food

4/4/2023
Are you wondering what’s behind current rising food costs? According to market research company Kantar, the price of the average shopping basket in the UK has gone up almost £600 a year. It’s not just consumers who are under pressure either; all the way through the chain, purse strings are being tightened, from the farmers feeling the pinch as fertiliser prices go up, to the producers being squeezed by our demand for cheaper products. To discuss this, Carole Walker speaks to James Walton from the Institute of Grocery Distribution, UK, Giles Yeo, from the University of Cambridge, and David Bowles of the German Salvation Army.
