Eric 'DJ Strobe' Cohen has been mixing records longer than I’ve been alive. He has a deep love for soulful house music and a passion for sharing the wisdom he’s acquired with the next generation of DJs and producers. As a recording artist he has dozens of number one billboard singles and multiple gold records to his credit. He has toured the world and played with legends in the electronic world like Todd Terry, Moby, and many more. Montana Mitchell (@MontiFresh ) is a dynamic yoga instructor and podcaster who came to Pittsburgh originally to study dance at Point Park. She has become one of the cities’ most demanded teachers with high energy classes at YogaSix and Yoga Flow. Ivan Gil-Silva is a force to be reckoned with. He runs a mobile sound company as one of the cities top live sound engineers, has built and operated multiple recording studios, is a talented musician of his own right, and is now focusing on his brick and morter restaurant in the heart of Lawrenceville ‘Mi Empanada.’ He started the restaurant concept from the kitchen of his Southside apartment as a way to feed family and friends. As an immigrant from Cordoba, Argentina at the age of 16 making empanadas is the continuation of a family tradition. The child of research scientists at CMU he settled in Squirrel Hill and attended Alderdice and then Duquesne. We discuss his upbringing, the Pgh restaurant scene, and he gave pointers on what it takes to make it in both the food and music business. My neighbor Trevor 'Real Deal’ Weller is one of the greatest battle rappers of all time. He went from winning rhyme calisthenics at shadow lounge in 2005 to wins at scribble jam in 2007, was on BET for freestyle friday by 2013 and in 2019 defeated Chilla Jones for the first of his four King of the Dot championships tying the legendary Pat Stay for title defences. Khari Mosley is a founder and Political Director for 1Hood Media, a Pittsburgh-based non-profit focusing on arts, education, and social justice. He also serves as the director of the group’s sister organization 1Hood Power, an advocacy group working on protecting voting rights, reforming the criminal justice system, and engaging new voters to participate in the civic process. He served as national political director for the League of Young Voters from 2005 to 2007 and again in 2009. He worked in local government under Bill Peduto, and Jake Wheatley. He has been featured on Pittsburgh’s CBS affiliate KDKA, PBS’s Newshour, NPR’s This American Life, The Roland Martin Show, and Pittsburgh’s WAMO-FM among other media appearances. He is a recurring political analyst on KDKA-TV with Business and Politics Editor Jon Delano. Khari attended the Indiana University of PA, where he studied political science. He lives in the North Point Breeze section of Pittsburgh with his wife, Chelsa Wagner, an Allegheny County Common Pleas Judge, and their two sons, Thaddeus and Isaiah. Running unopposed for Pgh’s 9th District he will join City Council in January 2024.
