Long Way to the Top

Music Podcasts

This is Long Way to the Top with Shayne Brian. In the words of the immortal ACDC, "it is harder than it looks". These interviews will give you a glimpse into the lives of the artists that we have sung along with, danced and rocked out to. Some go deep into their past and others celebrate their recent releases, but all of them show that regardless of who you are…it is always a long way to the Top. This series was developed off the back of both The Bad Boys Podcasts and the wonderful chats I have had with artists on LAFM. Some are brand new and some are resurrected interviews from the archives. In some cases I will be joined by my Bad Boys co-host, Andrew Hackett and then other times it is just me, the mic and my musical hero. Even now, after countless interviews, I still get a nervous excitement in chatting with my guests, and I hope that will never change because it is that admiration for their music that I want you to experience as you embark on your journey with them on their long way to the top. S2E9 - Cog (Lucius Borich)

3/7/2024
Lucius Borich has been playing music since he was 3 years old. Touring with the Kevin Borich Express, performing with Mark Evans of ACDC and Mick Cox of Rose Tattoo in a Rolling Stones cover band, cleverly named the Rolling Clones. And most famously establishing himself as one of the founding members of progressive rock band Cog. With an unabashed inspiration from Tool, Cog soon showed us their own definition of The New Normal and then redefined their sound again with Sharing Space which included themes like 9/11, the occult and political manipulation that seems even more relevant today than it was at the time of release. Proving that now more than ever In Cog We Trust. Cog & Lucius Borich Links... 2/11/2024
Today’s episode of Long Way to the Top is a little different to my normal shows. He was in Australia ahead of the Pandemonium tour where he will share the stage with Blondie, Deep Purple, Placebo and the legendary Alice Cooper. Instead of doing the interview myself, I handed over the reins a young guy I work with. You could say he is the original Teenage Dirtbag, Nic Groer. S2E1 - Iva Davies - Icehouse

1/28/2024
We are back with a band new season of Long Way to the Top and our first guest is an absolute favourite of mine, Iva Davies. In fact I have been wanting to interview Icehouse for a long time. Icehouse have been part of Oz Rock history for over 40 years, three million albums sold just locally, over nine million sold internationally, eight top 10 albums, and over 30 top 40 singles. Icehouse are one of the few Aussie bands that have had success outside of our country. With as many as 19 members in the band during that time, one name has remained the driving force of the band. What do Shania Twain, rose tattoo, the party boys and Bonnie Tyler have in common, our next guest on Long Way to the top. Randall Waller has been guitarist for many big artists and is the only Aussie so far to perform at the Super Bowl. With a promising band in the 80’s called Avion, the group disbanded when tragedy struck, causing Randall to begin a journey from Frontman to guitarist for some of the biggest artists in the world. Now after 40 years, Randall has just released a brand new album called More which showcases both his singing and guitar skills. S1E31 - Brian Canham (Pseudo Echo)

11/10/2023
In the early 80’s a new breed of music came out of the punk scene in the UK. Called New Wave, it was fronted by bands like Duran Duran, Spandau Ballet, Human League, Devo and ABC. By 1982/83 the British Invasion was well underway and in Australia, shows like Countdown embraced it and New Wave bands became a regular on the show. There was nothing like it in Australia. We had the pub rock bands like Chisel and the experimental bands performance bands like Split Enz but we were waiting for a New Wave act to hit the scene that could match the UK invasion. And then there was a beat for us, and we were suddenly listening to Pseudo Echo. Front man of Pseudo Echo, Brian Canham joins us on this episode of Long Way to the Top. S1E28 - John Corabi (Motley Crue)

10/8/2023
Today's guest, John Karabi started his music career in 1989 as the frontman of the Scream and then in 1992, some may say that the stars aligned as he was made the lead singer of one of the biggest bands in hard rock, Motley Crue, replacing Vince Neil for a period of four years. Since then this rock journeyman has collaborated with some of the biggest hard rock bands around including Ratt, Brides of Destruction, Union, ESP and more recently the US/Oz collaboration The Dead Daisies, replacing frontman John Stevens. John Karabi was back in Australia doing a stripped down solo tour and promoting his new book, so I took the opportunity to ask him a few questions. Enjoy Long Way to the Top with John Corabi. 9/30/2023
Our guest on Long Way to the Top today is known world wide as the rock brain of the universe, Glenn A Baker. There wouldn’t be many artists that he hasn’t toured with, shared a meal with or some backstage banter, so when I bounced the idea of doing a Rolling Stones special to celebrate their life and the release of their new album Hackney Diamonds, if you can’t get hold of Mick or Keith, then there was only person to speak with. Described by Louder Sound as Fast Times, Famous Friends and Filthy Rock and Roll, the lead singer Alan Clayton has toked with Bob Marley, performed with Bobby keys and partied with Keith Richards. They are straight forward rock and roll, equal parts Chuck Berry, Otis Reeding and a bottle of Jack Daniels.
