Ep. 10: Early October Bow Hunting (& a Buck at 10 Yards!)

10/12/2023
Have you ever said: Why did I do that? Well, I did this week, and ironically, Dan did too. This week, bow hunting early season mayhem hit us right in the mouth. I think you're gonna like it. On a more somber note, I would like to dedicate this episode to a dear friend of mine who served with me on ODA 535, Charlie Company, 1st Battalion, 5th Special Forces Group (Airborne). His name is Josh Rowson and he dedicated his life to this country, serving 27 years in the US Army, in both the 1st, 5th, and 19th Special Forces Groups. He had more combat tours than you can count. He was a warrior, a dear friend, husband, and father. Love you man. See you on the other side. Then in the podcast, Dan and I answered a few listener questions about what bow or crossbow to get started with for turkey hunting. Which then made us go down the rabbit hole of to crossbow or not to crossbow? It is a debate that both Dan and I agree on. We are for hunters. We need more deer hunters as the overall hunting population is literally dropping year after year in the US and with all the anti-hunting groups out there, we all need to stick together. Enough on that. I talk about my encounter with a buck last Friday morning and what I totally screwed up. This is a great lesson to learn, so you'll want to listen to this. Then I talk about my active scouting journey and how I managed the evening thermals to optimize the wind direction for my evening hunt. The Dan digs into a pretty funny series of events that you just can't make up with some bad batteries, a few does and fawns, and his truck. You got to hear this one. We've got all this and a lot more that will help any bow hunting beginner get better. You can definitely learn from our mistakes in this episode. Check it out now! Ep. 9: Archery Season Opening Weekend: First Day Report From Camp!

10/6/2023
This podcast comes straight from our hunting camp in the mountains of north-central Pennsylvania! Dan and I report the good and bad of what happened on the First Day of Archery Season doe whitetail deer, what we did, right, and what we really did wrong. We'll show you what we found on a great 4-mile active scouting trek and the bug assault we endured (great video of that). The sheer amount of sign we walked into was incredible and we will be back on it this upcoming weekend. From deer trails and acorn feed trees to huge bear tracks and skat, coyote tracks and skat (multiple piles of fresh skat), and palm-size deer tracks, we found a ton of very promising sign. And Deer? Well, you'll have to listen to this story. We dive into everything with our first bow hunting podcast from our hunting camp. We had a great time and some of us (Dan) had too good of a time (you'll see). Join us and enjoy this quick, but very entertaining podcast! Stay Tuned for next week! Ep. 8: Morning Hunts, Planning Your Access, & The Moment of Truth

9/22/2023
This week Dan and I answer listener questions: Do you do morning hunts in the early season and What early-season camo works? We dive into what we are doing now that the archery season for whitetail deer is opening for us next week in Pennsylvania and what we are going to do now. Then we dive into talking about how to take the hard right over the easy wrong. Making the hard choices when you are feeling lazy and the things we have cut corners on in the past that have bit us. This plus how we are planning our access routes to our stands and the things we are trying to avoid doing this year that we didn't do right before. We dive into the steps we take once we get to our stands. For me, I'm saddle hunting and Dan is hunting off the ground. So you get two unique perspectives. Then we dive into what steps you take to draw your bow when the moment of truth comes and it's time to take that shot on a big mature whitetail buck. Dan also acts up like he usually does and we have a blast. I hope you do too. If you like the episode, please subscribe and hit that notification bell on the video.
