Polish Made Easy: “Grać” (Play) in Music, Sports, and Games

1/25/2026
VIP members practice with flashcards https://app.learn-polish.pl/flashcards/xsgzb7qr9GKRRi5h4KY9 Live lessons for VIP members https://app.learn-polish.pl/videos/xsgzb7qr9GKRRi5h4KY9 Learn Polish Through Real Conversation: Weather, “Grać”, and Everyday Life Learning Polish doesn’t have to start with heavy grammar or long explanations. It can start with simple words, real questions, and normal conversation — exactly like in real life. In this lesson, we focused on a few very practical elements that beginners can use immediately: greetings talking about the weather the verb grać (to play) and two very useful words: podobno and kiedyś Let’s break it down. 1. Starting a conversation in Polish In real conversations — especially online or in group lessons — these phrases are everywhere: Dzień dobry. Good morning. Cześć. Hi. Czy mnie widać? Can you see me? Czy mnie słychać? Can you hear me? Czy jest okej? Is it OK? These are simple, but extremely useful. If you know these, you can already participate. 2. Small talk everyone uses: the weather In Poland, talking about the weather is not small talk — it’s survival 😄 Jest zimno. It’s cold. U nas jest bardzo zimno. It’s very cold where we are. Dzisiaj będzie minus dziesięć. Today it will be minus ten. And one key word appears all the time: Podobno Apparently / people say Podobno będzie minus dwadzieścia. Apparently it will be minus twenty. You don’t need to be sure — podobno is perfect when you’re not. 3. One powerful verb: grać (to play) With just one verb, you can talk about: music sports games hobbies Basic forms: Ja gram. – I play. Ty grasz. – You play. On / Ona gra. – He / She plays. 4. “Grać na” vs “Grać w” (very important) 🎸 Instruments → grać na Gram na gitarze. I play the guitar. Kimberly gra na pianinie. Kimberly plays the piano. ⚽ Sports & games → grać w Gram w piłkę nożną. I play football. Gram w szachy. I play chess. This distinction comes back again and again in Polish — learning it early helps a lot. 5. Talking about Sunday plans (real life Polish) This question is extremely common: Co robisz w niedzielę? What are you doing on Sunday? Possible simple answers: Idę do kościoła. – I’m going to church. Gram w kościele. – I play in church. Potem idę do domu. – Then I go home. Gram w szachy. – I play chess. Nothing fancy. Just real Polish. 6. Talking about the past: kiedyś Another very useful word: Kiedyś = used to / long ago Kiedyś grałem w piłkę. I used to play football. Teraz już nie gram. Now I don’t play anymore. This lets you talk about your life naturally, even with very basic Polish. Key takeaways If you remember only this, you’re doing great: grać na → instruments grać w → sports & games podobno → apparently / people say kiedyś → used to Weather talk = everyday Polish Simple sentences are enough to communicate Want to keep learning Polish? Mini Polish lesson about Winter Clothes ❄️

1/13/2026
More examples https://www.learn-polish.pl/online-lessons/polish-vocabulary-clothes Join VIP live lessons https://app.learn-polish.pl/live-lessons The lesson uses simple questions and answers to practice vocabulary naturally. Examples from the lesson: Masz kurtkę? Do you have a jacket? Tak, mam kurtkę. Yes, I have a jacket. Masz skarpety? Do you have socks? Mam ciepłe skarpety. I have warm socks. 🧢 “I Don’t Need a Hat”… Or Do I? Nie potrzebuję czapki. I don’t need a hat. The response immediately brings in context and logic: Jest bardzo zimno. It’s very cold. Potrzebujesz chyba czapki. You probably need a hat. 👢 Shoes Matter (Especially in Winter) The dialogue continues with another essential item: Masz buty? Do you have shoes? Mam ciepłe, zimowe buty. I have warm winter shoes. 📅 When Are the Live Lessons? This week, you can practice this topic multiple times: Monday at 7:00 PM – clothes topic (with Agnieszka) Tuesday at 7:00 PM – same topic, basic version (with Adam) Wednesday at 7:00 PM – extra practice session (with Tadek) You don’t have to join all of them — but you can. Polish vocabulary lesson || Winter clothes

1/10/2026
VIP members see the mini lesson https://app.learn-polish.pl/mini-lessons/Y1K2aFSSvLVmLUsckFYe Learn with Flashcards https://app.learn-polish.pl/flashcards/Y1K2aFSSvLVmLUsckFYe Next week in our VIP course we’re talking about something you actually need in real life: winter clothes. So we’ll cover the basic stuff you see every day: gloves a scarf a jacket trousers and your backpack — because somehow you always carry half your life in it. We’ll keep it simple, practical, and repeat it until it sticks. What you’ll be able to say after this lesson You’ll be able to talk about: what you wear what you need what you forgot and what you should buy Stuff like: “I need gloves.” “I forgot my scarf.” “This jacket is too thin.” “It’s cold today, I’m wearing warm trousers.” That’s real Polish. Not fancy. Useful. Mini Listening Challenge (use this during the week) Here are a few short sentences. Listen for the key words: Dzisiaj jest zimno. Today it’s cold. Masz rękawiczki? Do you have gloves? Zapomniałem szalika. I forgot my scarf. W plecaku mam czapkę. In my backpack I have a hat. Main Takeaways 1) Listening is not optional If you want to speak, you need input. Listening is vital. No shortcuts. 2) Repetition is the secret weapon You don’t “learn” a word once. You hear it 20 times, then it becomes automatic you remember it. 3) Live lessons force progress When you show up live, your brain switches on. You stop overthinking and start understanding and improve your Polish. Vocabulary List we will practice Winter clothes rękawiczki – gloves szalik – scarf kurtka – jacket spodnie – trousers plecak – backpack czapka – hat buty – shoes/boots sweter – sweater płaszcz – coat Useful words zimno – cold ciepło – warm zakładać – to put on (clothes) nosić – to wear potrzebować – to need zapomnieć – to forget Polish Live Lessons So here’s the plan: Join the live lesson at 7 PM — Monday, Tuesday, or Wednesday. Or watch them all if you want maximum progress. Can’t join live? Fine. Watch later. Still works. And in the meantime: watch the short mini-lesson. Short input, repeated often, is how you build strong listening. 7 day free trial https://app.learn-polish.pl/ Or Learn Polish in Poland in our intensive weekend course or one week or 2 week full immersion programs https://www.learn-polish.pl/
