Welcome to episode 28 of 2 Grooms 1 Plot! A podcast where two life-long storytellers talk about stories! Today, we broke down the most recent Sci-Fi blockbuster, Dune part 1 and part 2. Dune is based on the original novel written by Frank Herbert. The movies are both directed by Denis Villeneuve and star Timothee Chalamet, Rebecca Ferguson, Zendaya, Javier Bardem, Dave Bautista, and many MANY other stars. The story follows Paul Atreides (Chalamet) on the planet Arrakis. Arrakis is home to ‘spice’ - the universe’s most powerful product that makes interstellar travel possible. After being abandoned on Arrakis with his mother, the 2 join the Fremans (Bardem, Zendaya) to help stop the Harkonnen’s from coming to their planet and taking the spice, as well as discovering Paul’s calling as the prophet as a Bene Gesserit. There is SO MUCH that takes place across these 2 films that this description does it no justice. As always, we recommend checking out both these films before watching to truly understand the points that we make as they directly relate to the story (spoiler alert as always!) Today, Pavi and Colin take a look at the recently released movie “Saltburn.” Saltburn follows the story of Oliver Quick (Barry Keoghan) and his time at Oxford University. While there, he meets Felix Catton (Jacob Elordi.) After telling Felix of his rough life and upbringing, Felix invited Oliver to stay at their estate over the summer, Saltburn. Oliver becomes romantically obsessed with Felix and uses many deceptions to stay close with Felix and his family to avoid being sent off. This film features many key scenes and themes that are explicit in nature. While there are no visual elements of these scenes in this episode, they are described in relevance to the plot. On today’s episode, Pavi & Colin take a look at the 2023 PG-13 Horror flick, "Five Nights at Freddy’s.” Five Nights at Freddy’s is based off the wildly popular video game series of the same name. The FNAF background consists of playing as a security guard at an abandoned pizza place where the animatronic mascots come to life. The movie follows a similar plot in which Mike Schmidt (Josh Hutcherson) takes a job at Freddy Fazbear’s Pizza as a security guard after being fired by his last job as a mall cop. The movie takes some creative freedom with the original video game plot but brings all of the animatronic characters to the big screen including Freddy Fazbear, Chica, Mr. Cupcake, Bonnie, and Foxy. On today’s special Halloween episode, Pavi & Colin take a look at the newest installment in the ‘Saw’ series: ‘Saw X.’ The Saw series is one of the most well-known horror film series of all time. The story follows serial killer John Kramer/Jigsaw as he puts his victims through tests/games instead of just killing them. The way they are killed is usually, if not always, in a grotesque, violent way which has helped lead it to becoming the phenomenon it is. In Saw X, Kramer travels to Mexico for medical treatment and once learning that it is a scam, he puts everybody involved in the scam through his game. Fionna and Cake is a spin-off of the hit cartoon, ‘Adventure Time’ with gender swapped versions of the main characters. Fionna the Human (Finn) and Cake the Cat (Jake the Dog.) Fionna (voiced by Madeleine Martin) lives a normal life without magic in the city alongside her cat, Cake (voiced by Roz Ryan.) Fionna dreams of a magical land while living a normal life, eventually being able to travel through the multiverse along with Simon Petrikov (voiced by Tom Kenny and known in Adventure Time as the Ice King.)
