We talk about the benefits of collaboration between entities both on and off campus and how they were tested during one of the most tragic events to ever occur on their campus: an active shooter with confirmed victims. He is a Warning Coordination Meteorologist, which means he acts as the liaison between the National Weather Service and everyone from emergency responders to school decision makers, airport officials and everyone in between. In this episode, we talk all things weather including how to stay safe in certain weather conditions, the importance of operational CO detectors and how weather can play a dangerous role, and an underutilized yet critical component for emergency responders: the SPOT FORECAST. Scott dives into the improving technology that meteorologists have at their disposal yet describes the process for putting out a reliable but not perfect forecast. Vermont Resilience feat: the American Red Cross

Summer 2023 in Vermont can be remembered by one word: wet. That said, no one expected VT to receiveas much rain as it did in early July in such a short time frame. 3-9 inches of rain came down within a 48 hour period on July 10 and 11 causing catastrophic flooding including washouts and landslides along many major roadways and corridors connecting Vermont communities. Previous to his job in HEMS, he worked as a Senior Firefighter/Paramedic for the City of Burlington, Vermont. Nick began his EMS career in 2011. While attending The University of Vermont for his Bachelor’s Degree in Public Communication, Nick worked for the Williston Fire Department, VT as an on-call firefighter. While at Williston Fire, Nick obtained Firefighter I, Firefighter II, NR-EMT, NR-AEMT, Ice Rescue Operations, Swiftwater Operations, HazMat Operations, PADO, and ICS 100-800. Nick also worked as a Per Diem member of Colchester Rescue during college. Nick also holds IBSC certifications of Flight Paramedic (FP-C), Critical Care Paramedic (CCP-C) and Tactical Paramedic (TP-C). He holds paramedic licenses in Vermont, Massachusetts, New York and New Hampshire.Nick joined Northeast Emergency Training Solutions in 2016 as a AHA CPR instructor. In 2018 Nick was promoted to CPR Coordinator and became AHA faculty Instructor Trainer for NETS. In 2020 Nick bought into the company as a managing partner and was named the Chief Information Officer. At NETS, Nick is the host of the Code 321 Podcast, he manages the NAEMT programs (PHTLS and TECC) as Vermont State NAEMT Affiliate Faculty, all digital infrastructure, the Learning Management System, marketing, and is the Commission on Prehospital Continuing Education Program Manager.
