THE TIGER PARENTS | The Obsessive Pursuit of Success | A Tale of Control, Rebellion, and Betrayal.

4/22/2024
Jennifer Pan, raised by strict "tiger parents" obsessed with her success, faced immense pressure to excel academically and conform to their expectations. Despite early achievements in piano and figure skating, the pressure mounted as she progressed through school. Fearing her parents' disapproval, Jennifer resorted to forging report cards and lying about her academic performance. Her controlled upbringing led her to rebel by secretly dating and lying about her whereabouts. Eventually, she concocted a plan to have her parents killed, believing it would grant her freedom to be with her boyfriend and inherit their wealth. However, her plan went awry, resulting in the murder of her mother and severe injuries to her father. Despite initially fabricating a story of a home invasion, Jennifer confessed to hiring hitmen but claimed she intended to have herself killed. However, evidence contradicted her account, leading to her conviction, along with her boyfriend and the hitmen, for first-degree murder, attempted murder, and conspiracy to commit murder. Jennifer's trial revealed the complexities of her troubled upbringing, her desperation to break free from her parents' control, and the tragic consequences of her actions. Ultimately, she was sentenced to life in prison, leaving behind a shattered family and a father grappling with the loss of his wife and daughter's betrayal. The Oxford Murder | Proposal Denied, Strangulation, and Deceit of Rachel McLean

2/12/2024
In April 1991, Rachel McLean, a 19-year-old student at St. Hilda's College, Oxford, was murdered by her boyfriend, John Tanner, after she refused his marriage proposal. Tanner, who had arrived to visit McLean, strangled her in her own home and then ingeniously hid her body under the floorboards. Following the murder, Tanner crafted an elaborate facade to mislead both McLean's family and the police, pretending she was missing and even participating in public appeals for her whereabouts. It took 17 days for the police to discover McLean's body, concealed in a cramped space under her house's floorboards. Tanner's lies unraveled, and he was eventually arrested, tried, and sentenced to life imprisonment, though he was released in the early 2000s after serving more than 11 years. The case shocked the community and remains a stark reminder of the betrayal and violence that can lurk beneath the surface of intimate relationships. God Chose Us Part 2 | The Kidnappings and Murders of Shari Smith

2/5/2024
The "God Chose Us" case, as it's known, refers to a series of tragic events involving Shari Smith and Debra Helmick, orchestrated by a criminal who took pleasure in tormenting the victims' families with disturbing phone calls and letters. The case is marked by the kidnappings and murders of Shari Smith and nine-year-old Debra May Helmick in South Carolina. Shari Smith, abducted outside her home, was forced to write a "Last Will and Testament" letter, which the kidnapper mailed to her family. The letter, examined for forensic evidence, was one of the key pieces in the investigation. The kidnapper, enjoying the control and fear he instigated, made several phone calls to the Smith family, in one of which he chillingly stated, "Shari is now part of me... our souls are now one," and later, "We’re waiting. God chose us." These calls displayed his delusion of being in a position of god-like power and control.
