Later on he wanted to get his hands dirty, and crossed over to hull technician. Gil finished out his career as a member of SBU (Special boats Unit), now known as SWCC. Chuck grew up in the Lake Tahoe area, but soon found himself in the Navy as high school came to an end. His goal was end up on a battleship, but ended up on the USS Mount Hood which is an AE (Ammuntion Ship). It was there he met his two friends who have already been on the podcast “John Akin” & “Jim Warwick”. It is nice to see that a Navy friendship can last a lifetime. He even had a brother serving at the same time, it appears the Navy runs deep in this family. Terry Krause was born in Korea, but left when he was an infant for the US. His journey into the Navy was more by chance, than intention. After a nice entry into deck department, Terry quickly found his way to becoming a hull technician. Welding was part of the family business, so it was not such a stretch. These days Terry is making a lot of great welding and cutting artwork in his shop up in Iowa, and can be found spending most of the summer on his sleep aboard boat.
