Description:
Playing a weekly programme of music from near and far, land and sea, past and present, town and country, with special emphasis on traditional folk songs that tell a story: ballads, shanties, blues, gospel, bluegrass, and contemporary songs of the British Isles, USA, Canada, Australia and New Zealand, in English and Gaelic. We also play music from the dance traditions of those countries (and of Europe too): jigs, reels, strathspeys, flings, polkas, mazurkas, square dances, and so on - traditional and newly-composed tunes that continue to extend and develop the traditional forms. Naturally we broadcast New Zealand artists to showcase our own traditions and we always try to include some humour in every show.
