41. Responsible AI with Rawn Shah
8/12/2025
AI that aligns with human values and ethical principles
AI may sound intelligent, but at its core, it’s just math — a “stochastic parrot” repeating patterns without understanding human values. Rawn Shaw explains how making AI safe is an active, ongoing process, shaped entirely by the humans behind it. More here: https://imaginize.world/exploring-responsible-ai-with-rawn-shah/
The phrase “stochastic parrot” describes AI perfectly: semi-random, great at stringing sentences together, but lacking any real grasp of ethics. Rawn Shaw explains how responsible AI isn’t automatic — it’s something we have to build, monitor, and constantly adapt.
AI’s statistical brain doesn’t naturally understand morality, ethics, or human values. Rawn Shaw explains why we have to program responsibility into it — and why the question remains: who gets to decide what “responsible” means?

2/2/2025
Sohail Inayatullah is a world-renowned futurist and the UNESCO Chair in Future Studies. He discusses his work in futures thinking, which aims to open up the present and past to create alternative futures.
He developed the futures technique of causal layered analysis (CLA), which examines issues at four levels - data, systems, worldviews, and narratives/metaphors. This allows for deeper analysis and the creation of transformative solutions.
He emphasizes the importance of connecting futures work to real-world impact, helping organizations and individuals change their mindsets and behaviors. His goal is to foster global cooperation and abundance by challenging existing paradigms.
HE discusses ethical dilemmas around technology (algorithms of oppression vs. emancipation) and global inequities, arguing that with our current capabilities, we have a moral duty to create a more equitable and sustainable world.
Sohail is optimistic about humanity's future but believes we must make the "creative jump" to new forms of global governance and economic systems based on cooperation and shared prosperity, rather than competition and consolidation of power.

1/23/2025
Seeing Around Corners. (Rita's page https://imaginize.world/rita-mcgrath-strategies-corners/)
How do you provide enough structure and coherence that the organization operates well as a whole, but give people the freedom to really let their humanity flourish and let their ingenuity flourish? Humans are ingenious creatures, and I think that’s the skill that we are facing today.
So organizations, not so much as machines where you turn a crank and predictable things happen, but as entities that are capable of responding to changing circumstances, I think that’s the magic.
