RYAN PATRICK: The LUMA KNOTTY leader on living life surrounded by music!

5/1/2024
Luma Knotty is a band that defies a genre label and that's just how band leader Ryan Patrick (aka Rasta Ryan) likes it. Ryan has been immersed in a wide variety of musical genres all of his life and his approach to writing reflects that diversity. While reggae might be the foundation of a lot of Luma Knotty's music, it's usually served up with a healthy helping of funk, rock, blues, hip-hop, rap, and soul. And folks who have experienced Luma Knotty live know it's next to impossible to keep your feet still. Ryan formed Luma Knotty for the purpose of creative liberty and what he's led this band to do is make music that grabs your attention and doesn't let go. "System Check," "Coming In Hot," and "Better Days" performed by Luma Knotty written by Ryan Patrick ℗ 2023 Ryan Gleason. Used with permission of Ryan Patrick. DAVE WILLEMS: The MILE OF MUSIC and GIBSON COMMUNITY MUSIC HALL—the heart of the local music scene

3/27/2024
The Mile of Music festival has been mentioned numerous times on Into The Music, it's time we talk in depth about it with its creator and curator, Dave Willems! Music fans from here in northeast Wisconsin to just about everywhere in the USA (and probably the world!) know about the Mile of Music festival—four days of original music in early August from independent artists from a wide variety of genres. Dave Willems not only is the creator and curator of "The Mile," he's the owner of Appleton's premiere music venue, the Gibson Community Music Hall. Although the festival is only days in length, its spirit is carried throughout the year at Gibson with regular concerts and events that are in one way or another tied to Mile of Music. Dave is here to tell us how the two go hand-in-hand and what fans can expect at this year's Mile #11 taking place August 1-4. Mad Makings of Music Two generations, one love: Music. ERIC HAGEN is a soulful country artist whose songs are brilliantly "challenging and beautiful"

2/28/2024
Eric Hagen is more than a country artist. He writes and records songs that are country on the surface, but underneath there's a whole lot of soul. The musics of the south—country, soul, gospel, blues—tend to blend with each other very well and Eric has tapped into that. On top of the soulful foundation he lays, the lyrics of his songs are stories and well worth a good listen. He takes a less-is-more approach to recording so his listeners don't just hear whatever he can pack into his songs but rather listen to the stories put to music that is emotionally stirring. A review by Americana UK once said his music is "emotionally challenging and beautiful," a statement that couldn't be any more true. It's time to get acquainted with the challenging and beautiful music of Eric Hagen. "Sometimes," "Memories Don't Love You Back," and "Ponderosa Pines" written and performed by Eric Hagen ℗ 2024 Blackwater Music Group. Used with permission of Eric Hagen. MATTY DAY releases an album that is as eclectic as his long career

2/20/2024
Matty Day is an artist that can't be pigeonholed into any genre. The proof of this is his new album, Meta Dada, which one could say is a reflection of his career to date. This album zig zags from genre to genre and subgenre to subgenre, sometimes in the course of a single song. One thing this album is not is boring. Meta Dada is full of outstanding performances by Matty and the twenty some odd musicians he has playing on it. Underlying the entire project is some very smart humor to keep you on your toes. And if you didn't think Meta Dada was enough, we also talk about Wayne Newton. "In Our Coldest Time," "Ode to Jove," "Sunburn," "Lady Circadia," and "Untrue & Not Enough" written and performed by Matty Day ℗ 2023 Matty Day. Used with permission of Matty Day.
