Bonus Episode; Author Interview - Alex Kendall
11/20/2024
Welcome to Bookworms. In this very special bonus episode, Becky joins Joe to host an author interview. Today Alex Kendall is in the hot as he is about to republish his novel The Destroyer. New and improved; with hopefully all the grammatical errors removed. Listen in to discover his writing process and the passions that he is now pursuing.
With it being the holiday shopping season let us remind our listeners to support your local authors. With Alex's two (2) books being available, he would greatly appreciate it if you bought a copy of his stories. And maybe buy some more as gifts to your family and friends. The link to them is down below.
Just as a reminder, we post twice monthly. On the 5th we post our book of the month. And on the 20th we will provide you lovely listeners with a bonus episode. The Face in the Frost Book Discussion
11/5/2024
Welcome one and all. This month we have a wild adventure story to bring to you. Alex chose the forgotten classic, The Face in the Frost by John Bellairs. A story of several old wizards fighting an old evil across a strange land oddly similar to our world, but at the same time oddly different.
Next month Joe picked a mythical tale of blood and gore. Join the brothers in reading the classic Irish story of Cu Chulainn in The Tain as translated by Ciaran Carson.
Just as a reminder, we post twice monthly. On the 5th we post our book of the month. And on the 20th we will provide you lovely listeners with a bonus episode. Bonus Episode w/Guest host Haley; A Libertarian Walks into a Bear
10/20/2024
Welcome to Bookworms. Today Alex and Joe have a very special guest to talk about a hilarious yet worrying book. Haley, resident of Grafton, has joined the brothers to talk about A Libertarian Walks into a Bear by Matthew Hongoltz-Hetling. In this discussion, the three try to stop laughing long enough to discuss what it really is like to live in the small New Hampshire town since the Free-Staters have left their mark.
Just as a reminder, we post twice monthly. On the 5th we post our book of the month. And on the 20th we will provide you lovely listeners with a bonus episode. Alice Book Discussion
10/5/2024
Welcome to Bookworms! This month the brothers discuss Joe's first pick of the season. The book that they discussed was Alice by Christina Henry. Alex thought it was just okay, but Joe worked his voodoo and talked Alex into thinking it was an alright book after all. An increase in a whole half star in Alex's rating.
If you want to hear how Joe did that, then please give it a listen. We promise that you won't be disappointed. Just a warning, this book is graphically violent and both brothers discuss some unsavory topics. So if you have anyone under age with you, probably best to put the earbuds in.
Next month Alex picked another oldie but goodie. And not to be outdone in the fantasy realm either. For the month of November, we will be reading The Face in the Frost by John Bellairs. So pull up your boot straps and get ready for an adventure with two crotchety old men.
Just as a reminder, we post twice monthly. On the 5th we post our book of the month. And on the 20th we will provide you lovely listeners with a bonus episode. Bonus Episode; Becky Discusses Chasing Shadows
9/20/2024
Welcome to our first bonus episode of the season. This month, Becky was kind enough to discuss an interesting book that she had recently read called Chasing Shadows by Gregory Skomal.
This is an interesting book on the history of studying sharks. Specifically the "Great" White Shark off of the coast of New England. Becky and Joe only hit the high points, so totally go out and check this book out. It is worth the read if you are into science and ocean life.
Joe's first pick of the season is going to be Alice by Christina Henry. That is going to be out on October 5th at 5 AM Eastern time. So be sure to put it down in your calendar so you don't forget.

An American Dream Book Discussion
9/5/2024
Welcome to the first episode of season 2! Alex may have picked a difficult one to start off with, but both brothers are excited to get back into the swing of things. And this first one was a doozy.
Alex picked the book, An American Dream by Norman Mailer. Mailer was one of the greats in the 60's and 70's but in these times has kind of fallen off the map of being read. Alex and Joe discuss why this is and if it is justified.
Just a little warning, this book is graphic and both brothers refused to pull any punches when talking about the topics of murder, rape, and incest. You have been warned.
Next month, Joe's pick will be Alice by Christina Henry. It is going to be another very graphic book. But Joe thinks it is well worth the rough start in reading along with both of them for the start of season 2. There is also going to be a bonus episode this month. Becky was kind enough to sit down with Joe and discuss an interesting book that she had just read. So keep your eyes peeled for that.
And on the topic of Becky. We would like to thank her for updating our logo for this knew season. So if you get the chance let her know what you think of the color updates.

Season 1 Wrap-up
8/5/2024
Alex and Joe meet up one final time to talk about how their first season went. They go over some of their favorite books and moments and play a couple of little quizzes with each other. Joe runs the stats and makes a plea for people to become more engaged with the podcast. The brothers also make their announcement for the upcoming season.
We are looking for ideas and help for bonus episodes. So if anyone would like to be a part of the podcast, has a friend or acquaintance that is an author, or has a book recommendation, please reach out. Email and other links will be below.
Season two will start right off next month, September 5th. Alex has first choice again thanks to Joe's generosity. Alex has picked An American Dream by Norman Mailer. One of those "lost" classics that many hardcore writers and literary people know about, but the general public has largely forgotten.
No bonus book this month. Letting the brothers take a break and get caught up in their other books. With that said, Joe did bring up the question of, would people want to read book reviews and other articles that we write? And is there a preferred webpage that people would like to see that content? Joe has done some digging into Patreon, Substack and Medium, and any input would be appreciated.

Bonus Episode; Alex talks about House of Leaves
7/20/2024
Our final Bonus Episode of Season 1! We made it people. Thank you to all of those people that have stuck with us since the get go. Alex and Joe hope that you have enjoyed the show thus far. And hopefully you all enjoy this special episode that we put together.
This book is different. Alex read House of Leaves by Mark Z. Danielewski. Be careful reading this book. It could drive you mad. This is definitely a one of a kind book. Written in a way that has never been done before and probably never be seen again. Listen to Alex describe to Joe the journey into madness that he took, and how he was able to make it out alive. Or did he?
Just a reminder. No reading assignment for next month. Alex and Joe will have a wrap up episode on the 5th though. Make sure to listen as we will discuss some fun things about Season 1 and give an update for Season 2. That's right, you read that right. We will be coming back after a short break with more book discussions. We have already started reading and recording episodes. So make sure to tune in and find out what to expect for the coming months.

Use of Weapons Book Discussion
7/5/2024
This is our season finally for our 16 picks! And boy is it a doozy. Joe tried to warn Alex that it might be better to split this one into two parts. But he didn't listen. More fool him. So now you get to enjoy your second long episode in a row. We promise we will be better about it next season.
In this episode Joe and Alex read the book Use of Weapons by Iain M. Banks. This is the third book in Banks's Culture series. Don't worry though, you don't need to have read the first two to know what is going on in this story. Joe makes some pretty bold claims and Alex does his best to tamper them down. It is amazing to both your humble hosts how they both had different interpretations of the Culture civilization and their methods. Joe does a fantastic job of defending his point of view, if I say so myself.
No book next month. We will be having a Season 1 wrap up episode instead. There will be one more Bonus Episode on the 20th though. So keep your eyes peeled for that. It is going to be a doozy. But not 2 hours long. We promise.

Bonus Episode w/Guest Host Adam; Discussing Song Lyrics
6/20/2024
Welcome to another bonus episode. Today Alex and Joe bring Adam back to discuss song lyrics. Poor Adam still hasn't figured out that if he doesn't want to be on the pod, he needs to stop coming up with episode ideas. Of course the brothers have a sneaking suspicion that he enjoys it. It is a longer episode than normal, so we hope that it is still an interesting discussion. Each person picked five songs. We do have a playlist so that you can listen to the songs we are discussing. Stupid laws that prevent us from just playing the songs for you on the episode. Of course then this episode would be twice as long...

The Miraculous Journey of Edward Tulane Book Discussion
6/5/2024
Welcome to our humble little podcast. Season one is rapidly coming to an end. This month is Alex's last pick! He gave Joe an easy one. The brothers buddy-read the lovely and epic children's novel The Miraculous Journey of Edward Tulane by Kate DiCamillo.
It is a book that Alex absolutely adores. One of those books that once he started reading, he couldn't put it down until he finished it in one sitting. Joe, he's a bit more cynical and wants more blood and glory in his readings, had a bit harder time getting through it. But even the black hearted older brother found some interesting topics that he couldn't stop yammering on.
Next month is Joe's last pick. He picked the space opera epic from Iain M Banks to wrap the season up. We will all be reading the third Culture book, Use of Weapons. If you have never read the other books in the series, that is okay. This series is designed to be able to be read out of order. So give it a look.

Bonus Episode; Another Fan Recommendation, Beyond the Wand
5/20/2024
Today we have another fan recommendation! Sadly, it was a bit of a miss for Joe and Alex this time. Listen to how the brothers discuss how they are such book snobs that they couldn't get into something as interesting as a celebrity memoir. They do have a good time discussing it none the less. And they hope that they get more recommendations in the future. So don't feel shy giving us more books to read!
Our next regularly scheduled book is going to be out June 5th. It is the children's book The Miraculous Journey of Edward Tulane by Kate DiCamillo. So make sure that you have subscribed and get the updates on whatever podcast app that you use, so that you don't miss it.

The Liar Book Discussion
5/5/2024
Welcome to our latest episode. For this month, Alex and Joe read a strange novel by one of Joe's favorite people of all time. We read The Liar by Stephen Fry. This is kind of a spy novel but not. It is also a coming of age novel, but again not. One thing that it is, is funny. Or at least Joe thinks that. Give us a listen to find out why Alex thinks otherwise. And see who you agree with by reading along with us.
Next month will be another of Alex's picks. The critically acclaimed children's novel, The Miraculous Journey of Edward Tulane by Kate DiCamillo. That will be out June 5th. And don't forget to tune in on the 20th of every month for our bonus episodes. The one this month will be another fan recommendation. Excitement!

Bonus Episode; Alex and Joe read a fan suggestion, The Greatest Thing Since Sliced Bread
4/20/2024
Hello all!
Today's bonus episode was a fan suggestion. This super fan had the request that we read a lost classic called The Greatest Thing Since Sliced Bread by Don Robertson. This story is one of the novels that got the great Stephen King interested in writing. Give it a listen to see what two lesser known brothers think of it.
Our next regularly scheduled book is going to be The Liar by another great Stephen. Stephen Fry that is. It will be out May 5th, so make sure you remember to give it a download so that we know that you guys are listening.

The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian Book Discussion
4/5/2024
This month Alex and Joe discuss another controversial book. Today we are talking about The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian by Sherman Alexie. We don't delve too deeply into the controversy about the author, as neither of us looked too hard into it. It didn't really have much to do with the assigned reading. What we do discuss though, is how much we both enjoyed rereading this fun little story about an Indian leaving the reservation. We hope you get something out of this discussion also.
Next month we will be reading The Liar by Stephen Fry. This is a Joe pick. It is a bit more of a complicated reading than this months read. But Joe believes a good change of pace. We will see what Alex has to say about that.
And don't forget to be on the lookout for our "bonus" episode. We put those out on the 20th of every month. These are book discussions that are generated by other people. Some books we end up loving. Some we don't. Most of them we haven't read before, so it is always an exciting adventure for Joe and Alex to dive into none-the-less.

Bonus Episode; Valliant Women with Becky Guest Hosting
3/20/2024
For National Women's Month, we have a special book for everyone. Becky joins Joe to discuss the book Valliant Women by Lena Andrews. It is about the women that helped win World War Two; the brave women that broke tradition to assist our Soldiers and Marines and Navy in whatever capacity that they could. Becky gets her heckles up and Joe makes sure to needle her when appropriate. This one will teach everyone a lot of nearly forgotten and lost history. We highly recommend that people check this book out. Becky skipped a lot of the book, so more information can be delved into reading this one.
Our next regularly scheduled book, The Absolutely True Story of a Part Time Indian by Sherman Alexie, will be out on April 5th. So make sure you subscribe so you don't miss it.
We hope that you enjoy this episode.

Lamb Book Discussion
3/5/2024
This month Joe and Alex discuss the book, Lamb, the Gospel According to Biff, Christ's Childhood Pal by Christopher Moore. This was Joe's pick. As he says, one of his top 5 books of all time. This is a controversial book about the "lost years" of Jesus and how he developed his teachings. A perfect book to read leading up to Easter this year, so you can really piss off your overly religious relatives as the heathen that you are.
Also, Alex says like, like a million times. I had to give up editing them all out, otherwise I would still be working on that. If any of you are listening through Spotify, throw out a comment letting us know how many Alex still said in this podcast. Guilt him a little into trying to talk like an actual adult again please.
Next month we will be discussing another controversial book. Alex is having us read The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian by Sherman Alexie.
Our bonus episode this month, we will be joined again with everyone's favorite guest host, Becky. She will be doing a special talk on strong women in World War 2 as an homage Women's Month and all those women in our history that have sacrificed to get us to where we are today.
Please help us grow this podcast. The more listeners we get the more we can do. While Alex and Joe love talking books it is nice to know we aren't the only two out there blathering into the universe.

Bonus Episode; Becky talks about two retellings of Cinderella
2/20/2024
In this bonus episode, Becky was kind enough to join Joe again and discuss some fairytale retellings. Becky picked out two of her favorite childhood retellings, The Talking Eggs by Robert D. San Souci and Mufaro's Beautiful Daughters by John Steptoe. Becky has lots of questions about why we retell so many fairytales, and why so many are based on women. We would love to hear back from all of our listeners on their theories.
At the end of this podcast, Joe's mic apparently decided to stop working correctly, and he was completely oblivious to it while it was happening. We apologize. We are trying to figure out what is going on. So please bear with it. We promise we have been better about catching it in other episodes.

Our next regularly scheduled episode will be Lamb by Christopher Moore. So stay tuned for that bag of fun.

Gone Baby Gone Book Discussion
2/5/2024
This month Alex and Joe discuss the book, Gone Baby Gone by Denis Lehane. This is a crime thriller that takes place in '90s Boston. Both of us reflect on those simpler times and the tropes that these kinds of books loved to throw around back then. One thing that we had to keep reminding ourselves of, no cell phones. Oh how times have changed.
Our next book we will be discussing will be Lamb by Christopher Moore. It is a controversial book and one of Joe's all time favorites. So we hope you read along with us for this one. As we know you all are doing anyways... Right?
And don't forget to come back on the 20th for our next bonus episode. Joe promises that it is not a repeat of last months. No sexy talk at all. Other than whatever Becky jokingly says anyways.
Please help us grow this podcast. The more listeners we get the more we can do. While Alex and Joe love talking books it is nice to know we aren't the only two out there blathering into the universe.

Bonus Episode; Stuffed with guests Becky and Megan
1/20/2024
In this episode we have two very special guests today. Both our wives, Becky and Megan are here to discuss a book that Alex is calling the greatest classic since Gilgamesh and Joe thinks it as the dumbest thing ever written...
We are talking about the book, Stuffed by Sylvia Morrow. 87 pages of pure hell. About a sentient pillow. And the love making that ensued. This is a smut book of the most embarrassing kind. And yes there are tentacles. Alex does believe that this podcast may be even better than the book. And he loved the book...
Warning, this episode is meant for adults only. If you are under 18 please politely fuck off and listen to one of our other episodes.
Our next episode is thankfully a normal book. We will be reading and discussing Gone Baby Gone by Denis Lehane. So please don't give up on us now and check that episode out when it gets posted.
