Ms. Susan Castle made it a point to let her interviewer know she was a house servant and wasn't from the plantation. She seemed to hold to ideas that the enslaved should have been obedient to their masters. She was fairly young at the end of the Civil War but has a good recollection of that period in time. We have turned these interviews into an audio series which is launching with eight episodes. All of the people represented in this series were in their 70s or older. They told their stories with honesty and conviction. Some of the stories are shocking, saddening, at times insightful, but always engaging.
