On this episode we catch up with Mango, a heavy diesel mechanic who now works as a workshop foreman. Mango tells us about the time he was on a mine site during a pretty wild bush fire, and the measures that were taken to keep everybody safe. We also discuss the current AdBlue shortage in Australia and touch on the current Covid situation, particularly with the now mandated booster shot for WA workers.

On this episode we chat with Aaron White and his wife Francesca, for our first ever Video Chat episode. Aaron works at a drive in drive out mine site in Southern WA, operating just about every surface mining machine there is. He's also a Father, a Podcast Host and an Author. Aaron tells us about his introduction to the mining industry, as well as some of the things he's seen over the 15+ years he's worked FIFO & DIDO, while Cesca gives us an insight into what its like being the wife that stays at home to raise the kids, while dads away for weeks at a time. On this episode Hobbsy returns to the hot seat, bringing along one of his good mates, Jimmy. Hobbsy's been off on another snow filled adventure since we last spoke to him, and Jimmy is an Ex-Diamond Driller who now works as a Pit Technician. Sheena sits this one out as Bretto and the boys sit down to discuss everything from prescription drugs, diamond drilling and shitting at work, to gold theft, skills shortage and the true purpose of steel cap boots.

In Episode 17 we catch up with Dylan, a Heavy Diesel Mechanic and one of Brett's good work mates. Dylan talks about the challenges he faced when leaving his Perth based job, to have a crack at underground mining, as well as the new challenges he's facing right now, doing a trade upgrade to become an auto sparky. We also have a good chat about what we get up to on our days off, including the time we spend alone while our partners are at work, and how we tend to make grand plans to get shit done, but end up spending more time procrastinating and avoiding things.

On Episode 16 we catch up with Vasta, an Occupational Therapist and good mate of ours. Vasta gives us an insight into what an Occupational Therapist does, and how that carries over into the mining industry. We also chat about workplace injuries and injury management, sharing our opinions on lost time injury numbers and reporting culture, as well as workers compensation claims. Vasta also shares a story about the time she auditioned for an Australian TV show, its hilariously cringe worthy and sure to make you laugh.

Matt is an Ex-FIFO worker from the Oil & Gas industry who, after a quarter life crisis, left it all behind in search of a new career in the Financial Sector. Now working as a Money Coach and a Financial Wellbeing Educator, Matt has spent the past 20 years working with people from the FIFO and Mining sector, to help them better manage their money, reach their financial goals and afford a life that lights them up. We had an awesome chat with Matt, who takes the approach of blending social science with personal finance, which we quickly found out makes a lot of sense. This inspirational story begins with the end of an 18 year relationship, which sees Chris' life spiral out of control, through drug and alcohol fueled R&Rs. Already overweight and a heavy smoker, his bad habits had lead him into a very unhealthy place, both physically and mentally. On this episode of The FIFO Show, we continue our chat with Kelsey the Geologist. For Part 2, Kelsey gives us an eye opening insight into her experience of working in the African country of Zambia. Picture this - A young girl, coming fresh out of university at age 22, and heading straight into a 6 week on, 2 week off roster, in a foreign country, on the other side of the world and working with people that barely speak english. Yep, Wow! We go on to discuss our feelings around what motivates people in the work force, factors like stimulation, money and career progression to name a few, and some things that we believe companies could be doing more of, to improve an employees job satisfaction. On this episode of The FIFO Show we sit down for a chat with our mate Kenney, the Ex-Coal Miner from Central Queensland. Kenney shares with us his experience of working in underground coal mines, from being pranked on his first day, to the mining methods and machines, to the events that lead him to hang up the miners belt for good.

A few things have changed for us recently, so for this episode Sheena and I decided to have a chat between ourselves to bring all the listeners up to speed. I share my recent experience of once again starting work at a new minesite, with a few stories that are sure to have you chuckling along with us. We also discuss our feelings about and some lessons learned from the movie Deepwater Horizon, which is based on the BP oil rig disaster in 2010.

This is the first ever episode of The FIFO Show! For this episode we thought it would be a nice to give our new listeners an opportunity to get to know us a little bit, from growing up at opposite ends of Australia, to starting work in FIFO, how swiping right brought us together and to travelling Australia. We also give a brief explanation of why we decided to start this podcast.
