E30. "When I got the taste for Chocolate..." with Colleen Heidecker Colleen Heidecker, the Master Chocolatier behind Colleens Chocolates has an extraordinary background. With a Bachelor of Science in Zoology and Animal Behaviour from the U of A, Colleen trained dolphins and other animals worldwide for nearly two decades. Next, a fascination with the Mojave Desert led her to organize adventure races and trail run events in Las Vegas, where she developed nutrient-dense, superfood-infused snacks for her athletes. She then transitioned to Canmore, AB, creating her own desserts company before becoming the Lead Dessert Chef at Noorish Conscious Eatery in Edmonton, specializing in raw food and vegan cuisine. For the past 6 years, Colleen has taught hospitality, entrepreneurship, and work ethics to Indigenous students, leveraging her extensive international experience in the hospitality industry. Her goal has been to assist her students by imparting valuable skills and knowledge while being in a comfortable learning environment. Colleen's entrepreneurial journey has been shaped significantly by her 7-year involvement in BNI. BNI's structured approach, rooted in the "giver's gain" principle, played a pivotal role in her success. By actively combatting the scarcity mindset, BNI emphasizes the belief that the more one contributes, the more they receive in return. And as a lifelong learner and fiercely competitive individual, Colleen deeply appreciated all the relationships she fostered during that time that still continue to be a vital part of her business and success. Her newest entrepreneurial venture is the creation of a media business, The Food Explorer Podcast. Creating weekly content on YouTube, all audio podcast platforms, and writing articles on Substack. This passion for all things food is growing into a worldwide community and she can’t wait to see where it takes her! Being blessed with a daughter with a terminal illness has shaped the trajectory of her career and passions. Her daughter is her world and she is on a mission to bring awareness and find a cure. Christa is an advocate and knows the importance of her voice. She has been an entrepreneur and business owner for the past 20 years and just recently stepped into the nonprofit space as a brand manager. It is Christa's goal to create community and bring people together. She shares her experience with the pain and grief that comes with being a caregiver to help others know they are not alone. She is excited that she has reached the portion of her life where she is able to give back and help others. E26. Share your message w/ Kimberly van Tol Kimberly van Tol is a seasoned copywriter and translator with over 8 years of experience, specializing in Dutch and English. Her work includes business writing, web copy, blogging, brand voice & messaging, white papers, communication guidelines, brochures, flyers, packaging, and biographies, among many other things. Kimberly’s goal is to become the go-to writer for businesses in Alberta and lead an international team of copywriters and translators. In addition to her copywriting career, she holds a Master’s Degree in Special Education and teaches at the university level, focusing on autism spectrum disorder, learning disabilities, and special education. Originally from the Netherlands, Kimberly has called Edmonton, AB home for the past 11 years. She currently has two fur babies: our two rescue dogs, Calli and Loki. We also foster dogs for Second Chance Animal Rescue Society, and have fostered 19 dogs so far. She enjoys painting, drawing, baking, gardening, reading, learning, listening to podcasts and audiobooks, and building miniature dollhouses.
