Each episode features a new guest who shares their experiences, struggles, and victories as they navigate the ups and downs of parenting. The podcast is an open and judgement-free space where I have honest conversations about the challenges of being a parent. I believe that parenthood is a journey that never truly ends, and that mental health is a vital aspect of that journey. Guests share their insights and offer advice to help other parents cope with the stresses and emotions that come with raising a child. The phrase "Touched Out" reflects the feeling of overwhelm that many parents experience when their children constantly demand their attention. I understand that parenting can be exhausting and emotionally draining, and I want to provide a safe space where guests and listeners can share their experiences without fear of judgement. My Guests come from all walks of life and share a variety of perspectives on parenthood. Some talk about their experiences with postpartum depression, while others discuss the challenges of managing work and family life. Each episode is a unique and personal story, and I hope that the listeners can find something to relate to in each conversation. This podcast is a safe space where parents can come together and share their experiences. I believe that by talking openly about our struggles and emotions, we can help to break down the stigma surrounding mental health and create a more supportive and understanding community. 1/9/2024
This conversation explores the journey of Michael, a father who experienced the loss of an angel baby before conceiving his daughter, Maisie. Michael shares his experience of coping with grief, seeking professional help for mental health, and the challenges of parenting after loss. He emphasizes the importance of embracing vulnerability, self-love, and self-care as a parent. The conversation highlights the power of storytelling and the impact it can have on others. Michael's story serves as a reminder to appreciate the journey of parenthood and to be present in both the highs and lows. The conversation explores the themes of overcoming fear and self-doubt, the loss of resilience, the role of parents in modeling behavior, and the importance of stepping outside the comfort zone. Other topics discussed in this episode include: Coping with the loss of an angel baby can be a challenging and unique experience for both parents. Seeking professional help and support is crucial for processing grief and navigating the emotional journey. Maintaining a strong relationship after loss requires open communication, vulnerability, and support for one another. Parenting after loss can be filled with apprehension and anxiety, but embracing the journey and being present in both the good and challenging moments is important. Sharing personal experiences and stories can provide comfort, support, and inspiration to others. Fear and self-doubt can hold us back from trying new things and pursuing our passions. It is important to overcome these fears and take the first step. As children, we have a natural resilience and determination to keep trying, but as we grow older, societal influences and fear of judgment can hinder our willingness to try new things. Parents play a crucial role in modeling behavior for their children. It is important to create a safe and supportive environment where children feel encouraged to try new things and learn from their mistakes. Stepping outside the comfort zone is essential for personal growth and development. It allows us to expand our horizons, learn new skills, and overcome challenges. Running away from Sobriety: Sam Miller’s road from tarps to laughter

11/7/2023
Welcome to another episode of The Touched Out Podcast. I'm your host, Carter, and today, we have an incredibly funny, kind and wise guest, Sam Miller, with us. In this episode, we'll delve into Sam's journey from addiction to recovery and an up and coming thriving career in stand-up comedy. Sam, from Spokane, Washington, shares his incredible story of transformation. He's been sober since June 10, 2008, and he's actively engaged in a recovery community. Sam opens up about the impact of his father, a Lieutenant Colonel in the Air Force, who passed away when Sam was just 12. He candidly expresses the deep shame he felt while addicted to drugs and alcohol, particularly in how he hurt his mother. Sam reflects on his struggle with addiction and emphasizes that for him, it was not about getting high but rather running away from sobriety. Sam's life took a dark turn when he was fired from his job as a firefighter with the US Forest Service due to excessive drinking. He faced a period of increased suicidal thoughts. The only thing that prevented him from taking that step was the thought of hurting his mother. He moved back home to his mother's house and, despite lying about his sobriety, a moment of clarity led to his decision to seek help on June 10, 2008. He went through a grueling detox, and his journey to recovery began. Sam shares that his first year of sobriety was more challenging than his last year of drug use. It was a period of immense growth and adjustment. Sam has been married for 12 years and is a father to two children, aged 12 and 10. He emphasizes the importance of raising kind and empathetic children. Sam discusses his passion for stand-up comedy, which he's been doing for 9 years, and full-time for the last 2 years. He sees his comedy career as a gift of recovery. He reflects on his first open mic experience, describing it as a defining moment in his life. Sam realized he was not only going to do comedy but had always been a comedian. Sam still finds immense joy in making his family and friends laugh, reinforcing the healing power of laughter. He discusses his podcast, "The Tarp Report," co-hosted with fellow comedian Jess Anderson as well as Sam’s debut album, "Round Trip," that is available now. We conclude the episode with some words of wisdom from Sam to anyone struggling with addiction or facing challenging times: "As best you can, find ways to love yourself" and "Keep in mind that there are unknown unknowns." Between the Monsters and the Weak: Les' Journey to Resilience and Healing

9/26/2023
Welcome to another powerful episode of The Touched Out podcast. I'm your host, Carter, and today we have an inspiring guest, Les, who will bravely share her journey through narcissistic abuse and postpartum depression/psychosis. Les, a remarkable individual from Spokane, Washington, has experienced immense challenges throughout her life. Placed into foster care at the age of 5 due to her mother's abandonment, she had to endure unspeakable trauma. Les shares how her mother involved her in various "cons" to make money and was tragically exploited from a young age. Raised by her abusive grandfather and resentful step-grandmother, she faced a constant battle to be believed about the abuse she endured. At 18, Les found herself homeless, addicted to drugs, and caught up in a gang. She bravely left that life, despite the risks. Les opens up about her motherhood journey, driven by a need to be "perfect" due to the shame and trauma she carried from her past. Struggling with the pressure, she was diagnosed with Post Partum Psychosis, further challenging her path to healing. Les bravely shares her attempts to take her own life, demonstrating the depths of despair she faced. She highlights the turning point when her daughter fell ill, motivating her to reclaim her life and care for her children. Les shares her journey of healing, meeting her supportive current husband, embracing neuroplasticity, and discovering her purpose in helping others. Les discusses how her experiences have shaped her approach to parenting, emphasizing the importance of empathy and avoiding reliance on raising one's voice. Les is currently writing a book that documents her entire life, aiming to inspire and uplift those facing similar challenges. We leave you with two powerful quotes: "It can either make you or break you, it's your choice" and "And maybe just remind the few, if ill of us they speak, that we are all that stands between the monsters and the weak." - Michael Marks If Les' story has touched you, please share this episode to spread the message of resilience and hope as well as following Les on TikTok – https://www.tiktok.com/@thelesfactor Head to the podcast Instagram and hit the bio link to sign up for preorder today. Sensory Solutions: Kaiko Fidgets and the Intersection of Neurodiversity

9/26/2023
Welcome to another episode of The Touched Out podcast. I'm your host, Carter, and today we explore the clashing dynamics of ADHD and Autism in society. Meet Jo, The mother of Kai and Kobe. Kai is a brilliant young mind who founded Kaiko at just 11 years old in 2017. Kaiko was established to create age-appropriate sensory solutions and fidget toys. In society, Autism is often viewed negatively. Jo and I discuss the stigma associated with the term and how it affects late autism diagnoses.
