Described as the process of systematically dissecting and often rejecting the beliefs you grew up with, deconstruction is a process that we all experience at some point in our lives. The beliefs that we take a look at will vary for each of us, the process is unique, and each journey will look different. “Deconstruction is not meant to be a soft sighing of the future, but a way of deciding now and being impassioned in a moment.” -John Caputo Thank you to Cub Kuker and Cub Kuker Supernatural for sharing his amazing wisdom and insight into this important topic. Episode 011 - Your Brain Doesn't Know the Difference

6/5/2023
REALITY IS CONSTRUCTED BY YOUR BRAIN! Join host Ruth Brown as we look at how the brain functions during trauma. Learning what happens when we experience a traumatic event allows the opportunity to better understand the ways we can interject stress reducers, implement better protective factors, and be clearer in our communication with those who support someone who experiences complications post-trauma. Women are more likely to experience PTSD than men. 8 out of every 100 women and 4 out of every 100 men will suffer from PTSD during their lifetime. Let's really learn how PTSD and similar traumatic experiences are processed within our brain and body so that we can do our best to implement counteractive measures to these processes. Episode 008 - Why Critical Stress Debriefing (CSD) Works? (Trigger Warning)

4/20/2023
*Topics: Addiction, Alcohol, Drugs, Suicide* *Editor's Note - It is mentioned during this episode that suicide is a "selfish act." Although mental health professionals understand that this is not the case, we don't want to hide real talk and common stigmas. Rather, we view every chance we get to confront stigmas as an opportunity to discuss and educate. Suicide is not a selfish act, but rather one of hopelessness and a feeling from the person contemplating the act that people around them would be better off without them or that they hate themselves so much that they don't realize that others still love them. Host Chip Orton and special guest Todd Thayer De Voe discuss the Critical Stress Debriefing (CSD) and why it works, or doesn't. As a 20-year emergency management professional, Todd De Voe and Chip Orton discuss CSD and Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) as well as the seven stages of conducting a debrief. Personal stories and work experiences highlight the ways for first responders to explore mental health issues. There always "hope" to speak the unspeakable. Episode 005 - The Trauma Box

3/23/2023
*Topics: Intimate Partner Violence, Sexual Assault, Addiction, Suicide* Host Ruth Brown and special guest Melynda Bettis bring to the studio this week the topic of how we pack our traumas away. As a trauma survivor, Melynda shares how easy it was to pack the trauma experiences away in a box and how important it was to learn to unpack those things we are not meant to store and take up space in our lives. PTSD can occur for many different reasons and in this episode, we explore how intimate partner sexual assault and abuse takes its toll and can even be considered a C-PTSD event. We take a look at one of the other major traumas she experienced as she lived through the rollercoaster of emotions and events her child struggled with in addiction just out of high school. Learning to process and unpack the traumas we encounter in our lives is neccessary, and the supportive community we surround ourselves with is key in trauma recovery.
