V&V Episode 118 Sarah Greenwell(Gymshorts/Greeensleeves) & Girls' Album

4/29/2024
Super excited to bring this conversation I had with Sarah Greenwell to your ears! If by chance you're not familiar with Sarah's bands(Gymshorts or Greeensleeves) you should really look into them. Especially if you know and like Girls debut album, Album. There are certainly some similarities, and I have to say, I love both equally. Gymshorts is the vehicle by which Sarah does the majority of her touring, and though they don't have any dates announced as of yet, they're bound to have something coming up very soon. I encourage you to follow her and her projects on these socials to get the latest updates as they come. https://gymshorts.bandcamp.com/music https://www.instagram.com/gymshortsmusic/ https://www.facebook.com/GYMSHORTSMUSIC/ https://www.instagram.com/greeensleeves/?hl=en I also encourage you to give us a follow wherever you're finding this and find all of our links to everything we do at our website, www.psychicstatic.net and please consider making a purchase through that site. It all goes to funding this show. Thank you! Theme song written and performed by Jeff Robbins of 123 Astronaut.

V&V Episode 117 Matt McGuyer(Amblare, Mock Orange) & Chavez's Ride The Fader

4/8/2024
Matt McGuyer is an incredibly talented singer and songwriter. As you'll learn through this conversation, he's been surrounded by and learning how to play music since he was 5! And it shows! Though, he has not been able to get any recorded works published until now, I can only assume the floodgates have been bashed open and we'll be hearing a lot more from Matt. This conversation is a bit heavy handed on the loss of Bryan St. Pere. Only because Amblare's new album will most likely be it's only due to Bryan's untimely and tragic passing. It is nice to have Matt to share his personal experiences of getting to know and work with Bryan intimately. They've been able to make a great album and if you're at all a fan of Hum(or Chavez for that matter) I encourage you to get in Amblare. V&V Episode 116 Jem Moloney(Dead, We Empty Rooms) & Harvey Milk's A Small Turn of Human Kindness

4/1/2024
Upon being approached to speak with Jem from We Empty Rooms in Castlemaine, AU, I had to dig into as much of the Dead catalog as possible(there's a lot!). Then I found out about the types of releases WER does, like Dead's new album, Burn Us Clean, a box set of 9 split 7" singles! Most everything they release has amazing artwork which is all silksreened. Then Jem chose this album by Harvey Milk! Fucking bonkers! There's so much to get into, and maybe that's why this show is a little longer than usual, but there was a lot to get in there. The long and the short of it is, if you're here because you know and like Jem's band, Dead and don't know Harvey Milk, you might want to get into them. They have some interesting similarities. and Dead has worked closely with some members of Harvey Milk on some songs. Or if you're here because you like Harvey Milk and this crazy album, A Small Turn of Human Kindness, then you might want to give Dead a shot. also, if you're hunting for any kind of information about this enigmatic album, well this might be the stop for you. Please don't forget to support Dead as they tour the US coming soon. V&V Episode 115 Charlie Schmid(Del Judas) & Chris Isaak's Silvertone

3/7/2024
It's nice to be able to dive into something other than heavy, loud, aggressive, noise rock. Not that there's anything wrong with that. And my guest today, Charlie Schmid, would probably agree with me. Having been the drummer for bands like Vaura and Tombs, he's no stranger to loud aggressive music. With that being said, you might think maybe listening to and making music like Chris Isaak is the stranger thing. But it's not. And hopefully this conversation can shed a little bit of light on what that's like or how that can happen. Silvertone is a great album that draws from the well of old country, honky tonk, rockabilly and even a touch of blues. And Del Judas' music is very similar. He will be releasing a song called Angela on March 15, 2024. This will be the first single from his forthcoming new album. I think the best way to stay in the know about what Del Judas is up to will be at his website. https://www.deljudas.com/ All links to his social medias and Bandcamp are there. You can get his debut album Deity through those links now! If you'd like to get to know us better and help support the show, you can do that through our website, www.psychicstatic.net. Thanks! V&V Episode 114 Christian Lembach(Whores.) & Helmet's Meantime

2/26/2024
Goddamnit! Whores is one hell of a band! New album is coming out April 16 on The Ghost is Clear Records. Vinyl presale is underway now and already on it's third pressing! Get it while you can. Lord knows it might be your only chance. Despite what you might think of the band's name, Christian(and I'm sure the other members of the band) ia a kind sweet person that just happen to make brutal, gut punching music. And if you're a fan of heavy noise rock and such, this is the band you want to know. National headlining tour will be under way very soon. Catch them if they're close to you. In case you aren't familiar with Helmet, they're a close kin to what Whores do. A fairly obvious influence on Christian, so if you by chance don't know them or this album, please check it out. You'll probably like it. Hard to find good information about it, but I found some stuff that worked out pretty well. Get Whores' new album, War out on TGIC Records here: https://whores.bandcamp.com/ www.whoresband.com http://theghostisclearrecords.com/ If you'd like to find out more about us and how to support this show, please visit www.psychicstatic.net Theme song written and performed by Jeff Robbins of 123 Astronaut and Orbit.

V&V Episode 113 Blake Bickel(Bronson Arm) & Melvins' Houdini

2/2/2024
Blake Bickel is an interesting dude. In this talk I get as deep as I can into his past, growing up while moving frequently. Desperately trying to get his hands on exciting music while trying to find his own passion. Eventually stumbling across The Melvins, and it was all over from there. If you know and like Melvins' Houdini, there's a good chance you like Blake's band, Bronson Arm. They're similarly very heavy and aggressive music, but it's my opinion that Bronson Arm adds a touch more melody to their tunes. Try it out yourself and see what I mean. They have a lovely splattered vinyl out right now on Learning Curve Records and will be touring throughout the year. Find them in all these links. https://www.instagram.com/bronson_arm_noise/?hl=en https://www.facebook.com/bronsonarm.noise/ https://bronsonarm.bandcamp.com/ https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCzS9UO4ixXDO_WYYV--BdCA And if you'd like to know more about us and how to support the show, please visit www.psychicstatic.net Theme song written and performed by Jeff Robbins of 123 Astronaut and Orbit.

V&V Episode 112 Eddie Shaw of The Monks

1/24/2024
It is an honor to bring to you Eddie Shaw! The bass player of The Monks! The Monks have been a long time influence and inspiration to me, personally, as well as being a influence over countless bands since 1966 through today thanks to the rediscovery of the band through Ugly Things Magazine in the 90's. Their album, Black Monk Time, has since been reissue many times through many labels and they have even had some previously unreleased songs released for the first time through Jack White's Third Man Records. It's a wild and incredible story which I am honored to have been able to sit with Eddie and try to get a full description of what was happening at the time, what was informing their direction, the continued legacy and what he's been up to lately. I encourage you all to pick up a copy of his book Black Monk Time through the provided links. Also, listen to the album! It's only available to stream through YouTube at the moment.(Light in The Attic Records I'm looking at you!) V&V Episode 111 Paul Chastain(The Small Square, Velvet Crush) & The dB's Stands for Decibels

12/4/2023
It's an honor to bring to you Paul Chastain. The former leader of 90's band Velvet Crush has never stopped keeping busy. For some time he was simultaneously doing Velvet Crush while being part of Matthew Sweet's band and now has a newer project with John Richardson(Tommy Keene, Gin Blossoms, Badfinger etc.) called The Small Square. Their new album Ours & Others is available now through Farm to Label Records and streaming everywhere you find music. Here are some links: http://www.smallsquaremusic.com/ https://farmtolabelrecords.com/artists/the-small-square/ Not only do we cover most of Paul's history here but we also tackle the topic of The dB's, Stands For Decibels and its lasting influence on him from an early age, as well as their oddly parallel career trajectory. Also, Paul shares a number of stories from his career including some moments shared with Ivan Julian of the Voidoids and a very touching story about Tommy Keene. V&V Episode 110 Lung(Kate Wakefield/Daisy Caplan) & Smart Went Crazy's Con Art

11/22/2023
I forgot to mention Happy Thanksgiving! It's very easy to lose track of things during these hectic times. Sorry. I'm very happy to bring you Lung! A unique duo from Cincinnati. And what is ostensibly a second half to my previous conversation with Conan Neutron. Lung being the first half of the Adult Prom Split LP from Learning Curve Records. which you should buy here: https://lunglunglung.bandcamp.com/ This was a great conversation which starts, like most all these conversations, with in depth coverage of these artists and how they were introduced to music, and how they found this album which they have deemed a significant inspiration to them. Always pretty hard to do with a duo! And this album(Smart Went Crazy's Con Art) does not disappoint. Though maybe my analysis of it does. It's hard to say, but I did not want to over do it on this one. Listen for yourself and make your own opinion. And then share those thoughts with me. And if you Lung seems to be an interesting band to you, go to their website and follow them on socials, buy tickets to their shows, buy some merch or just bring them some food for the love of God! https://www.lungtheband.com/ If you'd like to know more about what we do, explore more shows and send us some money(or food), visit our website at www.psychicstatic.net Theme song written and performed by Jeff Robbins of 123 Astronaut and Orbit.

11/8/2023
So excited to bring you my conversation with Conan Neutron! The music maker, podcast host, and festival curator stopped in to speak with me today about The Damned's 1979 punk rock masterpiece, Machine Gun Etiquette, as well as all the other things! Family life, discovering music, inner workings of podcasting, The new split LP with Lung, Adult Prom on Learning Curve Records and so much more! It's a little lengthy, but if you're familiar with @ProtonicReversal you can understand. It gets a little wordy. V&V Episode 108 Doug Mioducki(Quits) & Sonny Sharrock's Black Woman

10/23/2023
Oh man! This was a hard one. Do you know this album? Does it illicit pain, discomfort, joy, sadness, grief or shame? Maybe all those things within one song? If you have heard this album and not experienced at least two of those feelings, you may have missed the point. I and my guest, Doug of Quits, may not be scholars of music, and free jazz in particular, but I don't think you need to be to understand this album on an emotional level. With that being said we hope this show with as many or as few facts and opinions shared within can help you digest what this album is about, and maybe even turn you onto it if you don't already know it. Also, Doug's band Quits has a new album out called Feeling It on Sleeping Giant Glossolalia. It is available everywhere to stream but if you'd like to support them you can buy a copy here: https://sleepinggiantglossolalia.bandcamp.com/album/quits-feeling-it And please listen to this album if you haven't already. V&V Episode 107 Klaire of Guji & The Monks' The Early Years 1964-1965

10/2/2023
It's funny how some bands just develop a buzz about them fairly quick, while others seem to disappear into mediocrity. Both can be said about both of these groups. Guji is a very new band that, at the time of this recording, have only played a handful of shows and release their first recording. And here they are getting publicity and having their album released by a label. Whereas, The Monks had only finally received any kind of notoriety decades after they broke up. Either way, they are both great bands and should be heard! https://godlessamericarecords.bandcamp.com/album/guji If you'd like to support the show, please visit www.psychicstatic.net to make a purchase. and If you'd like to know more about, stream the new EP or purchase the vinyl preorder for Gnarnia you can do that here: https://gnarniapvd.bandcamp.com/album/thin-ice-crimetown-double-ep Theme song was written and performed by Jeff Robbins of 123 Astronaut and Orbit.

V&V Episode 105 Steve Moore(Zombi) & Goblin's Their Hits, Rare Tracks and Outtakes

9/11/2023
Each episode has it's challenges in researching the chosen album by the guest. Some are not so hard. Maybe even easy. Others make you wish you were dead. That's not saying that this is a horrible album. It's not. It's a great album by a great band. A mythical group that I think is fairly obscure. Obviously there are a great number of people that know and love Goblin, but even with that being said, how many of those people truly know much about this band? Well, my guest today does. Steve Moore, best known for his band Zombi, not only loves this band and found them to be integral to his own career, but he knows these guys and has toured with them briefly! And one of the most interesting parts is that, if it weren't for this album, he may have never even started Zombi, let alone scoring films. A true pinnacle of inspiration and something that we strive for here on this show. And if you aren't familiar with any of Steve's work(and there is a TON of it) you can follow this link to his latest release which is a collaboration with Overcalc. https://sleepinggiantglossolalia.bandcamp.com/album/steve-moore-overcalc-calyx and when you're done with that, you can explore the rest of his catalog here: https://stevemoore2600.bandcamp.com If you'd like to find out more about us and how to support the show, please visit our website at www.psychicstatic.net. 8/31/2023
This is one episode I found it hard to prepare for. It seems I have a string of them coming, but this is the first I tried to tackle. Slint's Spiderland. Christ man, it's a difficult record, but me and my guest today, Sean Prior, had a great time trying! He's in a terrific band called Intercourse. They have a new album. Not necessarily like Slint, but there are some elements there. V&V Episode 103 Ev Gold(Cinema Cinema) & Fugazi's In On The Killtaker

8/18/2023
Ladies and gentlemen, I bring to you today, Ev Gold! The singer songwriter and guitarist for Cinema Cinema from Brooklyn, NY. Ev was a great guest to have on for this show because, not only is enthusiastic admiration for this band and album, but he has first hand knowledge of being in Inner Ear Studios, where this album was recorded. And with revered engineer/producer Don Zientara for multiple recordings of CC. Don, also being the engineer for In On The Killtaker. Amazing frame of reference to help put some of this conversation into perspective. Ev is also here to bring some attention to the fact that his band, Cinema Cinema is currently observing their 15th anniversary and have also released a brand new album, Mjölnir, which is a beautiful collaboration with Thor Harris and was also recorded in another legendary studio by another legendary engineer, BC Studios with Martin Bisi. V&V Episode 102 Daniel Gene(Mirakler) and Metallica's Black Album

7/27/2023
Today, Daniel Gene, of Pittsburg band, Mirakler, joined me live in the studio to discuss what kind of impact Metallica's Black Album had on his adolescent brain. To my surprise, this album of his choice was chosen because of more of a negative impact than the typical gushingly positive reason. Still intriguing. Possibly more just for that reason. At the time of this recording, Daniel was on tour, but by they time you hear this it'll be just ending with dates with Cherubs and T-Tops in PA. https://www.pghcitypaper.com/pittsburgh/cherubs-mirakler-t-tops/Event?oid=24172389 Please check their websites for more info or to by their new album on Reptilian Records here: http://www.reptilianrecords.com/products/743259 If you'd like to know more about us or help support the show please visit www.psychicstatic.net Theme song written and performed by Jeff Robbins of 123 Astronaut and Orbit.
