Anna Tormey joins us on Life in 5. Originally from Dolphin House but now living on Lombard Street, Anna is a devoted mother of four, grandmother, and a pillar of her community. Her granddaughter is getting married this year—and Anna will be officiating the ceremony herself. She serves as an elder at Liberty Church, runs a community group in Chapelizod, and trains in pastoral ministry with Liberty. Her life revolves around the church, and she’s known for her strong sense of humor and commitment. Interestingly, her mother even delivered Pastor Noel Kenny when he was born—a wonderful link between generations of faith.

Ryan O’Neill from AIMaestro.me is in studio to talk about something that’s moving faster than almost any other technology right now—artificial intelligence. From how we work and communicate to how businesses operate and decisions are made, AI is already reshaping daily life—and many believe we’re only at the beginning. Marie Louise Heffernan is a Connemara-based ecologist, farmer, and writer whose work bridges science, land stewardship, and faith. With over 30 years’ experience in biodiversity, conservation, and environmental planning, she is the founder of Aster Environmental Consultants and director of The Ecology Centre in Letterfrack. Living and working on the land in the west of Ireland, she brings a deeply personal perspective to farming—one shaped not only by ecological expertise but also by a lived spirituality rooted in place. In her recent piece “God’s Acre: A farmer and ecologist on faith and the land,” she reflects on seeing the land not as a burden, but as a blessing—an outlook that weaves together care for creation, daily farm life, and a sense of the sacred in the natural world.

On this Good Friday, as Christians around the world reflect on themes of suffering, forgiveness and redemption, a lecture taking place later this month is inviting us to think more deeply about how those ideas play out in our justice system. Professor Pieter De Witte, a prison chaplain and lecturer at KU Leuven, will speak at the Jesuit Centre for Faith and Justice’s annual lecture, exploring what forgiveness, community and punishment really mean in practice. Drawing on both theology and his experience working in prisons, he’s asking some challenging questions about how we respond to wrongdoing—and whether our current systems reflect the values we profess.

For most of us, our phones rarely leave our hands—but according to Professor Colin O’Gara, that everyday habit may be tipping into something more serious. The addiction specialist has warned that harmful phone use could now be affecting up to 20 per cent of people in Ireland, with more and more individuals presenting with issues linked to excessive screen time. Speaking to the Irish Independent, he pointed to a growing pattern of behaviour where smartphones aren’t just tools, but gateways to compulsive use of social media, gaming and even gambling. It’s a shift, he says, that’s starting to have real consequences for people’s mental health—and one Ireland may not be fully prepared to deal with.
