Ep. 5: Hats off for creativity

8/10/2021
In the fifth episode my guest was Devika Mathur, a poet from India. She recently published her first book of surrealistic poetry called Crimson Skins, which was featured among my Erratic book Wednesdays reading recommendations, and has lots of other works available on her blog, social media and in various literary magazines. She’s also quite active in the writing community and curates a wonderful newsletter about poetry and mindfulness, so she was a joy to talk to. We talked about poetry, the importance and often overlooked necessity of creativity and inspiration in our lives and of course, her book. She shared all about how she got started with surrealistic poetry and why she chose that particular style, her writing process, where she finds inspiration and how she came to be a published author. We also talked about the place poetry holds in our society and how it has changed over the years, as well as some advice for new writers and artists. Devika even read one of her poems for this episode, so if you’re passionate about the creative process, this one is for you. Come check out Devika’s work on her blog and social media and show her some love! You can also drop by at erraticengineeress.blog and share your thoughts on this episode. Ep. 4: Cats and hats

6/1/2021
In this episode I talked to Miša Bitenc Hernčič, a fellow Slovenian and blogger @letters_from_jeddah who followed her heart and moved to Saudi Arabia. Her stories and letters are always interesting and provide an honest and personal glimpse into life on the other side of the world, which is even more welcome now that we can’t travel as much. We had a chat about adapting to a whole new culture, her relationship with her husband from Sudan, their daily life in Saudi Arabia and all the delicious food. She shared a bit about her content creation process and how she’s trying to educate her audience, smash unwarranted prejudice and portray the foreign culture and traditions with honesty and the respect they deserve. Also, she’s a real cat lady and has a special Instagram account dedicated to helping the local stray cats at her street corner and their catventures, so if you’re a cat lover, she’s your gal. Check out Miša’s blog and social media channels and show her some love! You can also drop by at erraticengineeress.blog and share your thoughts on this episode. Ep. 3: You can leave your hat on

4/17/2021
In this episode I spoke to Donatas Kveselys, a fellow engineer who’s going to be the next big thing in stand up comedy. He’s Lithuanian, but he’s currently living in Sweden, which is where we met when I was couchsurfing with him and his flatmate in Gothenburg. Since I was a guest on their sustainability radio show, One and a Half Vegan, I invited Donatas to bring a little humour into my podcast. We did a deep dive into stand up comedy: material creation process, what’s funny in different countries and cultures, advice for new stand up comics, Donatas’s plans for the future, Lithuania and of course, corona. We also discussed what’s (in)appropriate to make fun of, so if you’re uncomfortable with dark humour like suicide jokes, please consider this a content warning. Check out Donatas’s YouTube channel and Instagram and show him some support! You can also drop by at erraticengineeress.blog and share your thoughts on this episode. Ep. 2: The hut of sustainability

3/4/2021
It's the second World Engineering Day For Sustainable Development today and in this episode I had a chat about sustainable architecture with Manca Zupan, an architect and a fellow sustainability geek. We dived into all sorts of sustainable building practices for both homes and public buildings to give you an overview of what's out there and what options you have if you want to make your living space greener. Don't worry, we didn't get super technical, but we did talk about energy efficiency, passive houses, how dragons are a potential fire hazard for green roofs, plastic roads, life cycle assessment and climate change mentality, so you might learn something new! Go check out Manca's Etsy shop Maniushka while you're at it. She doesn't make hats though. Ep. 1: What makes us happy

2/8/2021
Welcome to the first official Erratic hat episode! Since we've all had a rather strange pandemic year, I wanted to start this podcast on a positive hat, so let's dive into the concept of happiness. What makes us happy? The ultimate life question and also life's purpose according to Aristotle. As my first act of creating this podcast, I asked some of my friends to tell me what makes them happy - no deep thoughts, just straight off the bat answers. Their choices were rather interesting, as is our conflicting perception of happiness in everyday life, so in this episode I'm sharing some thoughts and explanations about happiness. What makes you happy? Come share in the comments at my blog erraticengineeress.com References for this episode: Aristotle - Nicomachean Ethics Yale's course The Science of Well-being Dan Gilbert's TED talk: The Surprising Science of Happiness M. Ep. 0: Welcome to the Erratic hat podcast

1/31/2021
It's ALIIVEE (well, technically, because this is a trailer episode)! Welcome to the zero episode of the Erratic hat podcast, where I'll be sharing conversations with interesting people, solo episodes and stupid hat puns every 3-4 weeks. You can expect topics such as travel, food, lifestyle, sustainability and everything else. Since a hat is something that goes on to your head, I want this podcast to go INTO your head, so feel free to drop by the comments on my blog Erratic Engineeress or my social media and let me know what you think about the issues discussed in the episodes. Hopefully this will become your new favourite hat and that you'll discover a new fit for your thoughts! The post Ep. 0: Welcome to the Erratic hat podcast appeared first on Erratic engineeress.
