Engaging in the worlds of Pure Space with Rahul Inamdar

In our final episode of the Impact of Visual Arts series, our host Payal Nayar is in conversation with Rahul Inamdar, a crossover artist with an MBA and an engineering degree and a 10 years of professional experience in innovation and brand management. Rahul left his lucrative position as a corporate consultant in 2007 to pursue his passion for painting. Rahul Inamdar is a colour gradient alchemist who does not neatly fit into any genre. He invites his audience to slowly absorb and internalize the paintings in order to really engage with the worlds of pure space that he unfolds. Born in 1968 in the town of Sisian Republic of Armenia, Jivan Hovhannisyan was a teacher at Dubai Community Theatre and Arts Centre ( DUCTAC) until 2018 and is presently teaching pencil drawing and oil painting to adults at the Reem Gallery Dubai. Re-living Japanese Aesthetics with Cristina Dominguez

Episode 9 of our series Impact of Visual Arts features a conversation with Cristina Dominguez, a mother of two who works as an educational counsellor and teaches Sumi-e painting. Sumi-e, or Japanese ink painting, is the essence of Japanese aesthetics. Sumi-e conveys the everlasting beauty and intricacy of the natural world using just black ink and carefully maintained white space. Taller Balam is a studio and gallery where Cristina and other artists market their works and share their own artistic style with the world. She enjoys developing and recreating Japanese aesthetics that developed during the Tang Dynasty of China. Chinese Zen Buddhist monks brought the contemplative brush painting method to Japan, where it was modified to the Japanese style and named Sumi-e. "My proposals are not strictly artistic," Cristina explains, "I'm actually looking to create a framework where people can rest, rest, and reconnect by creating." Episode 7 of Impact of Visual Arts series is a conversation with Shuddhabrata Sengupta who is co-founder, along with Monica Narula and Jeebesh Bagchi, of the Raqs Media Collective. Since its inception in 1992, the members of the Collective have worked in a wide range of forms and formats. Raqs has exhibited widely, including at DOCUMENTA, and the Venice, Istanbul, Taipei, Liverpool, Shanghai, Sydney, and Sao Paulo Biennales. Their sculptural project, Coronation Park, is currently on display at the 56th Venice Biennale. Raqs received the Multitude Art Prize in 2013. Shuddhabrata Sengupta is a well renowned artist and writer, and member of Raqs Media Collective. Raqs is a word in Persian, Arabic and Urdu and means the state that “whirling dervishes” enter into when they whirl. Raqs signifies and embodies the practice of a kinetic contemplation of the world. It is also a word used for dance. The collective makes contemporary art, edits books, curates exhibitions, and stages situations. It has collaborated with architects, computer programmers, writers, curators, and theatre directors, and has made films. Sengupta also co-founded Sarai—the inter-disciplinary and incubatory space at the Centre for the Study of Developing Societies, Delhi—in 2001, where it initiated processes that have left deep impact on contemporary culture in India. Making Illustrations the Way of Life with Aashti Miller

She was born and raised in Mumbai and studied Architecture at Cornell University in Ithaca, New York. She is the sole force behind MillerInk, an illustration, and graphic design studio. In 2023, she was selected for the Forbes 30 under 30 lists for design. One of Aashti’s most notable illustration projects is ‘The World is My Oyster,’ a children’s book which highlights accomplished Indian women and provides role models for little girls ready to take on the world. The impact of art in our lives with Max Pedreira

Our conversation in episode 4 of the special series Impact of Visual Arts is with Max Pedreira, a resident of Buenos Aires, Argentina, an artist highly influenced by Impressionism and Expressionism. He has exhibited in various countries like Argentina, Uruguay, Brazil, Cuba, and the USA. Defining himself as a figurative-abstract painter, he aims his work to reach everyone’s soul and to never be forgotten. Max tends to impose complex compositions on his imprint, where the human figure is immersed in labyrinths of compositional rhythms, and the expressionist tone of the figuration joins the planes of symbolic spaces in absolute harmony, here is the paradox, the complex does not shy away or avoid, on the contrary, it captures the viewer's contemplation. His works compel us to look closely. "When the result of the painting is there," he said, "what people say about my painting is that they can't stop watching the painting". Turning Curiosity into a masterpiece with Rajae Qarrou!

We kickstart 2023 with a brand new series Impact Of Visual Arts with the talented Rajae Qarrou a civil engineer and self-expressionist artist based in Barcelona, Rabat, Paris, and Kuwait. Rajae attended the Barcelona Atelier of Art and the Barcelona Academy of Art after the death of her father, which had a profound impact on her life. Rajae Qarrou grew up in Morocco before moving to Paris at the age of 20 to study engineering at ESTP, Ecole Speciale des Travaux Publics, and finance at Dauphine University. She worked as an engineer in the construction sites, and then she became a luxury real estate developer. Visual Arts to Cinema with Lavender Chang

We end this special 6 part Melting Pot and Singapore International Film Festival series with Lavender Chang. Lavender specialises in conceptual photography and her artwork is an expression of her awareness of the subtle nuances around her. Lavender's goal is to concentrate on these encounters, to paint a picture that will inspire more reflection, and to let the passing of time leave behind signs of her mortality. Listen to know about her journey from being a visual artist to having her own feature film. Lavender likes getting to know individuals and taking beautiful photos of them. Her cheerful demeanour usually puts the subject at ease, enabling them to express their most distinctive and best selves in her pictures. Chang originally gained recognition as an award-winning photographer, showing her work in countries including China, Malaysia, and Singapore. She was interested in concepts of time and mortality. Chang, a driven artist, has never shied away from a conceptual challenge or stopped developing. She initially donned the cinematographer's cap in 2018, when she joined filmmaker Clang's first film, Their Remaining Journey. Journey into the World of Films with Alvin Lee

In episode 4 of the special Melting Pot limited series, our host Payal talks to Alvin Lee a Singaporean filmmaker who received his Bachelor of Film Directing degree from the most prestigious Beijing Film Academy. Lee's short films have won numerous awards at film festivals. Alvin is also a Media Education Scheme scholar with the Singapore Infocomm Media Development Authority (Film). Stay tuned as we discuss his journey in our next episode.His previous short film, "Bon Voyage," won Best Director and Best Sound at the 6th Singapore Short Film Awards. "Seed" won Best New Director at the 2016 China Short Film Golden Hummingbird Award and Best Actress at the 2017 Short Shorts Film Festival & Asia. "A Time For Us" is his thesis film from Beijing Film Academy which premiered at the 29th Singapore International Film Festival, Southeast Asia Short Film Competition, and won awards at international and local festivals. Alvin also directed the film segments of the 2019 National Day Parade, which feature the inspiring stories of four different characters and how their stories are linked to Singapore's progress. Ayushmita is an alum of Jameel Poverty Action Lab and International Growth Centre and is currently working with the Centre for Budget and Governance Accountability on gender mainstreaming and Gender responsive budgeting. She is also a sexuality educator and content creator, having worked with organizations like The Zero Period, MASH Projects Foundation, and Chayn on creating content around sexuality education, menstruation, and healing from sexual abuse and trauma. Opera's recent movie Baby Queen shares with the world Opera's queer journey through intimate glimpses into her private life, including her coming-out as a fledgling drag queen, falling in love, competing in drag pageants, and dressing up her supportive and adorable 90-year-old grandma in drag. An Actor’s Journey with Kazakhstan actor Daniyar Alshinov

In the 2nd episode of this Melting Pot Limited series in collaboration with the Singapore International Film Festival we talk to lead actor Daniyar Alshinov from Kazakhstan. The journey Daniyar has taken into the world of film has been quite unique. Daniyar, who was unable to join the drama school right out of high school, first chose to study nuclear physics at a nearby college. He later quit in his second year of college to get an aerospace engineering degree. Daniyar continued to pursue his artistic passion while actively attending local film auditions. Listen to the episode to know how he beautifully led his journey to live his dream of becoming an actor. He grew up in Kazakhstan in a family of teachers. After five years in the United States, he earned his aerospace engineering degree at Arizona State University and returned to his homeland. Daniyar continued to actively participate in local film auditions while attempting to support himself as an engineer. At the age of 27, Daniyar finally landed his first acting role. Daniyar was successful in a variety of genres and dominated the local box office, but a new chapter began when he met the most distinctive Kazakh director, Adilkhan Yerzhanov. "A dark-dark man" was chosen for the official selection in San Sebastian and received an APSA award, and "Goliath" was chosen for the Venice edition of 2022. One of Daniyar's most recent projects was playing the lead in the Cannes-premiered French miniseries "Infiniti."
