Rudy

5/21/2024
Send us a Text Message. Sports! Playing, watching, stat tracking or tailgating. Professional, competitive or pick-up. Enjoy them or hate them, it's the category most of us normal people dread on trivia nights and also our new theme for this round. Running out of the tunnel and onto the field first it's Rudy, the 1993 American biographical sports film detailing the life of Daniel "Rudy" Ruettiger who, more than anything else, wants to play football for Notre Dame. We also delve into our own experiences with sports, whether we consider ourselves competitive or not and reveal Karl's inner drive for vengeance when wronged.

Diabolique

5/7/2024
Send us a Text Message. Bienvenue, mes amis! This week we view the 1955 French psychological thriller “Diabolique,” a screenplay so interesting that Hitchcock himself tried to get his hands on it and an ending so thrilling that we are asked explicitly by the film not to reveal it to you. We also ask the burning questions you never knew you had, such as; what ARE the criteria to be selected as a Criterion Collection film? How can sound become a means of torture? What songs would play in our personal hells? Join us and find out. It is truly an épisode diabolique.

Run Lola Run

4/30/2024
Send us a Text Message. I hate subtitles! We don't really, but that's our new theme for this round. In this episode we talk all things subtitles/dubbing/cc/etc and how they can have an effect on our viewing experience. We jump into things with Run Lola Run, the 1998 German experimental action crime thriller directed by Tom Tykwer. We have seen this one before however as a twist, we turn the subtitles off (none of us know German) and see how much we can still get out of this film.

What Dreams May Come

4/16/2024
Send us a Text Message. Where do we go when we die? Can we find our family there? Would you travel to the underworld to bring back a loved one? So many philosophical questions, all with (sometimes questionable) answers provided in the 1998 film “What Dreams May Come.” We’ll also talk about movie depictions of the afterworld, the story of Orpheus, Robin Williams in serious acting roles, social security cards and Karl’s disgusting encounters with bodily fluids at work. Sounds heavenly.

4/9/2024
Send us a Text Message. Rewind and Reevaluate: The 'I Should Watch That Again' ThemeCycle Join us as we begin our dive into the movies that deserve a second look, whether we loved them or hated them the first time around. We investigate what makes these movies worth revisiting, how our perspectives might change with a fresh viewing and the risks that come along with that. In this episode we give Darren Aronofsky's directorial debut 'Pi' another viewing and see if it stands up to our initial impressions. This leads to a rather heated debate as we discuss his other works a bit and try to get to the bottom of why people feel certain ways about Aronofsky's films.
