These Homepage Mistakes Are Costing You Views on YouTube!

10/13/2023
Improving your channel's homepage is one of the best things you can invest time in as a beginner Youtuber. That's the page many viewers will visit if they're interested in seeing more of your content and/or considering subscribing to your channel. Unfortunately, setting up the homepage is usually one of the first things we do when launching a new channel. And at that stage, we may not have a great sense of what the channel will be about or be very good at creating homepages. As a result, our mistakes may cause viewers to leave without watching more videos or subscribing, negatively affecting our channel's growth potential. The good news is that we can fix things by revisiting the key areas that significantly impact the viewer experience and channel optimization. In this episode, we'll cover three such areas: the channel banner, the About page, and the section headers. Thanks for listening! Have a comment or question about a topic or episode? Creating Authentic Live Content, with Joy Pereira

8/26/2023
Doing a live event of any kind can be pretty nerve-wracking. Even with the best preparation, things can go sideways fast with technical glitches, flubbed lines, forgetting things you wanted to convey, or any number of unexpected events. So why put ourselves through this as content creators? What are the benefits of "going live"? And if we do it, how can we give ourselves the best chance for success? These are some of the questions I had the opportunity to delve into in this episode with my guest, Joy Pereira, a former professional stage manager with the Syndey Opera House in Australia and host of the Nerds of Joy podcast. Through her agency, Joy Pereira Creative, Joy currently works with companies and creators to help them amplify their messages via live events, podcasting, and social media. The Art and Science of Content Repurposing, with Charles Tumiotto

7/6/2023
Are you considering adopting a content repurposing strategy to scale your content out and reach? Or perhaps you've started one already and are interested in maximizing the results. Either way, this episode is for you! In this episode, I talk with Charles Tumiotto about "the art, science, and mindset" for getting the most from implementing a content repurposing strategy for your YouTube channel, podcast, or social media profile. Charles started working as a freelance content marketing consultant in 2019, and through working with clients, he realized that most of their problems could be fixed by doing one simple thing: publishing more content. It's a simple solution, but a hard one to implement. Most creators were already maxed out and couldn't possibly find the energy to write, record, and publish more. So in 2022, Charles shifted his business and opened a content repurposing agency. He has been primarily working with French/European clients until now, but he's currently getting his agency running in the US/English-speaking market. Charles started by helping YouTube creators repurpose their content for short-form video platforms like TikTok/Reels/Shorts, but he's now started tackling other formats like Tweets, LinkedIn posts, and blog posts. His agency does everything in-house and does not outsource the work or use AI tools to do the job for them. You can get a copy of the ideas framework Charles mentions in this episode here, which will help you to generate 360 ideas for your social media content calendar within less than an hour. If you want to get in touch with Charles, you can reach him at charles@ctj.media. Episode music is licensed under StoryBlocks. Opening track: Disco Danger, by Jon Presstone. Thanks for listening! How to Create Your First Lead Magnet

6/7/2023
If you haven't yet started to create an email list as a content creator, you might want to consider doing that sooner rather than later. An email list is often a cornerstone for a content creator business. It is your connection to the "warmest leads" your audience; that subset of your audience that's most likely to follow you on social media, engage with your content, and "buy your stuff." That's why the conversion rate for sales via email lists tends to be much higher than that of a creator's social content. One of the best ways to build an email list is by having a lead magnet, which is a free or low-priced product or service that provides value for a member of your audience in exchange for their contact information (and sometimes a small fee). This may sound great in principle, but there are so many questions that need to be answered. How do you get started? What kind of lead magnet should you create? What vehicle can you use to distribute the lead magnet and collect those email addresses? What results can you expect and how do you build on those? Tune in to find out, because those are the topics of this episode. Music and sound effects are licensed under Storyblocks. Opening track: Disco Danger, by Jon Presstone. The Power of Storytelling for Content Creation and Branding, with Rob Stennett

2/14/2023
It's getting harder to stand out as a content creator. As more people are getting into the content creation game, the competition is becoming more intense - even on video platforms such as TikTok and YouTube. And now along comes a new threat in the form of artificial intelligence tools, like Chat GPT-3 and WriteSonic, which are making it easier for more creators to scale their content creation efforts. In this context, storytelling can be an effective way for content creators to differentiate themselves. So this episode, I'm pleased to have the opportunity to speak with Rob Stennett, who is an award-winning video content creator based in Austin, Texas, and the founder and creative lead for Storyize, which is a content creation firm that helps brands tell their stories through video, podcasts, and social media campaigns. We discuss why stories are so effective and some tactics that you can implement today to help your stories get noticed. Music and sound effects are licensed under Storyblocks. It can be a tough process, but it's one that's critical to our long-term success as content creators and entrepreneurs. So in this episode, I look at two of the major mistakes I made with my overall social media strategy in 2022 and discuss how I'm looking to correct those in 2023. My 100-Day Tweet Streak Challenge. The Results May Surprise You.

12/17/2022
When I started this challenge, I did it with the notion that Twitter could have a lot of potential as a distribution platform for my podcast and YouTube channel. Content creation for Twitter is relatively efficient compared to other social media platforms such as Instagram, Tiktok, or YouTube. It's also comparatively easy to share links via Twitter and - perhaps because of that and the predominantly text-based nature of the platform - in my experience, Twitter users are more apt to click external links (e.g., to podcast episodes) shared via Tweets than on other platforms. All this made me want to know what would happen if I really doubled down on a Twitter growth strategy. And to do that, I took on the 100-Day Tweet Streak challenge, where I committed to Tweeting once per day, every day, for 100 days. In this episode, I talk about what I learned and how it went. The results may be surprising. Music licensed under Storyblocks. Opening and closing track: Disco Danger, by Jon Presstone. Thanks for listening! Have a comment or question about a topic or episode? Five Ways to Keep Your Content Fresh (as a Content Creator)

10/3/2022
Running out of fresh content ideas is among the biggest fears that haunt content creators. And most of us will have this fear realized at some point in time. I'm talking about those days when our ideas list is running dry and we just can't come up with new content topics that excite even us, let alone our audience. This episode is about five ways you can come up with fresh content ideas when those days arrive. It's based on the process I went through this summer when I was struggling to come up with fresh content ideas myself. As I discovered, different sources were helpful in different ways. But to get the best ideas, I had to dig a little deeper than what I tried at first. Eventually, I got there. And my hope is that this combination of sources will be useful to you as well. 15x Your Followers With the Right Engagement Strategy, With Ginger Starr Borden

8/16/2022
Successful content creators understand that the value of their brand on social media is measured by the engagement their content generates among a defined audience - meaning, in this case, likes, comments, shares, or other forms of "content interactions." This is what drives platform algorithms to push content out to larger audiences, creating opportunities to build one's own brand and generate interest among followers, sponsors, and clients. But as a small content creator or business, how does one get the engagement ball rolling? That's the topic of my conversation with Ginger Starr Borden, who helps content creators and small businesses get noticed on Instagram. Recently, Ginger grew her own Instagram account from 3000 to more than 49,000 followers. And in this episode, Ginger shares some of her insights on how she achieved that using what's known as an engagement strategy.
