It’s time we bid farewell to the Haunting of Bly Manor in our journey through the Mike Flanagan library. As Viola drags Dani by the throat, Flora intervenes—reminding the Lady in the Lake of her long-lost daughter, Isabel. Viola takes Flora to the lake to drown her, but Dani sacrifices herself, inviting Viola’s spirit to inhabit her body and freeing the trapped souls of Bly Manor. In the aftermath, Henry returns to raise the children, while Owen and Jamie discover Hannah’s body in the well. Dani and Jamie leave for America to build a life together, but nine years later Viola’s presence begins to surface. During a reunion in France, Owen reveals that Flora and Miles remember nothing of Bly Manor—only the happy parts of childhood. When Dani wakes with her hand around Jamie’s throat, she realizes Viola’s hold is growing stronger. To protect the woman she loves, Dani returns to Bly Manor and takes her place in the lake forever. December was a rough month off-mic, fighting illness and holiday chaos, but we’re back now to finally ask: What if the found footage was real…and the scariest thing wasn’t the monster, but the filmmaker? This week, we’re digging into Butterfly Kisses (2018), Erik Kristopher Myers’ razor-sharp found footage deconstruction that asks a deeply uncomfortable question: how far will an artist go to be believed? The film follows Gavin York, a documentarian who stumbles upon a box of tapes left behind by two film students investigating an urban legend known as Peeping Tom. What starts as a forgotten student project quickly spirals into obsession, as Gavin sets out to “prove” the footage is authentic—dragging his own film crew (and his sanity) down with him. This week, we continue our Mike Flanagan Rewind series with Episode 7 of The Haunting of Bly Manor. In this episode, we uncover the dark truth behind Peter and Rebecca’s tragic fate at Bly Manor. Through flashbacks, Peter learns the rules of being a ghost: he can briefly possess the living—and, with an invitation, take over a body permanently. But every spirit trapped on the grounds risks losing their face, their memories, and ultimately their identity. Believing they can be together forever, Peter convinces Rebecca to invite him in. Instead of reuniting, he uses her body to walk into the lake, drowning her and binding her to Bly as a ghost. Heartbroken and furious, Rebecca refuses to join his plan to possess the children—Miles and Flora,but Peter continues manipulating events to get what he wants. In the present day, Peter and Rebecca lure Dani to the attic as their scheme reaches its breaking point. The children appear to surrender their bodies to the ghosts, and when Hannah intervenes, Peter (speaking through Miles) forces her to confront her own death. But Flora reveals the truth: she and Rebecca have been pretending, and Rebecca has not taken her over. As Dani attempts a desperate escape with Flora, they are suddenly confronted by Bly Manor’s most fearsome spirit—the Lady in the Lake. This week on The Real Minishow, Sam and Stormy are adjusting to their new normals—Sam has a job she loves, and Stormy is finally free from nightly homework. Meanwhile, in Episode Four of The Haunting of Bly Manor: In a series of flashbacks, we learn that Dani was once engaged to her childhood friend, Edmund. During a tense dinner, Edmund realizes Dani doesn’t want to marry him. As he storms out of the car in anger, he’s tragically hit and killed by a truck. A traumatized Dani sees Edmund’s ghost for the first time at the hospital. Without telling anyone, she plans to leave the country. Before she departs, Edmund’s mother gives her his glasses. In a tragic turn of events, The Stormy Skies forgot her Stanley Cup at Yoga and cannot have a sip of water until it’s returned to her. Sam then recounts some tales of woes from her day job of working with children…but thank goodness none of these children are like Miles because in today’s episode of Bly Manor we learn a little more as to why Mile is the way Miles is. Dani tells the children she forgives them for locking her in the closet but admits she doesn’t believe their explanation. In a flashback to prep school, Miles becomes increasingly unstable—starting fights and killing small animals—leading to his expulsion. It’s implied he got himself expelled on purpose after receiving a letter from Flora that reads, “Come home.” Back in the present, Dani assigns the children chores, giving Hannah and Jamie a much-needed break. When Flora puts on a broken pair of glasses from Dani’s belongings, Dani has a panic attack. Miles begins to behave in an unsettlingly mature way around her, making her increasingly uneasy. During a game of hide-and-seek, Dani stumbles upon a photo of Rebecca and her lover—the same ghostly figure she saw on the parapet.
