What better way to celebrate Halloween then spending the entire next month staring into a blank page while screaming? If that sounds pleasing, welcome to NaNoWriMo! This is a daily writing tips audio blog which will be releasing 10-20 minute episodes through the coming month of November. The focus will be on smoothing out the writing process and tricks for heaving yourself out of the many ruts that may pucker the next 30 days.

S1E1 - SCREAMvember Day 1: Prologues

11/1/2019
Welp, it's the first of November. I hope your vocal cords are nice and chill, I hope you've been taking care of them. Day spa, manicure, cucumber eye things, Mozart music- because it's time to start screaming now. There are pros and cons to the use of prologues, and this episode explores that a little. The good news is that the pro is a big one- they aren't really the main book! they're isolated, so you don't have to think about the rest of the project. Just pick something to tell the reader, and go nuts. Don't stress, it's okay, all is well. Let's start NaNo with a nice little prologue. Just one little prologue friend. Just one prologue. Just one. Snow-flaking your outline

10/31/2019
Snow flaking is when you take the individual sentences of your small outline, and form 5 point (well not necessarily 5, just more) out of them. So relatively quickly you can turn 5 points into 21-25 points (depending on whether you expand the midpoint turn). I like this step because it basically presents you with your chapters as each of those individual points account for approx 2000-2500 words. For the rest of the month I'll basically just be doing this snow-flaking over and over, turning each of these chapter points into 25 point outlines. I'm actually pretty tempted to do this werewolf story instead of the one I actually planned. Find out more at https://screamvember.pinecast.co

A Five Point Outline

10/30/2019
I go over my method for constructing a loose outline, and demonstrate with a little story ab lib. Not saying this is the only way to do it, but I find it very handy. What do you like in a movie? That's your game. What is a world you enjoy? That's your play space. How does the game change your character? Thats the difference between the first and second half. What are two opposite aspects of the play space? That's the difference between Act 2 and the others. Normal world, unchanged (Act 1). Play space world, unchanged (Act 2a). A Key event like a victory or major loss of the game (Turn). Play space world, changing (Act 2b). Normal world, changed (Act 3). Find out more at https://screamvember.pinecast.co
