One Track Mind

On April 16, 2019 Peter London lost his life at Palm Beach International Raceway. He was coaching from the passenger seat of a Lamborghini street car. Peter was a good friend and a great racer and coach. His loss is devastating to his family, friends and the the motorsport community, especially in Florida where he was most active. In this episode I talk about the events surrounding the crash that took Peter's life and the attitude that needs to be taken by everyone involved in motorsports to help avoid another tragic loss.

Part 2 of the episode with Craig Stanton

Craig Stanton is a championship winning racecar driver, the fittest man in motorsports and someone who truly embodies the philosphy of a positive mental attitude. Craig is a Southern California native who has raced it all: two wheels, four wheels, off road, on road, sprint and endurance. His lifelong dedication to physical fitness, mental conditioning and philosophical balance is what has allowed him to achieve success, and earned him the utmost respect of his compitetors. He's a mentor to me, whether he realizes it or not and has forgotten more about what it takes to "make it" than most young drivers today will ever know. Efrain is currently responsible for Mazda Motorsports PR efforts within IMSA and the Battery Tender Global MX5 Cup series. Previously he worked for Ferrari Motorsports North America in a simillar role and he talks about the different approaches and goals of companies like Ferrari and Mazda with their racing efforts. Efrain also races vintage cars and talks a little bit about that world, and debunks the perception that it's wildly expensive or inaccesable. He also talks about how to spot someone who's cheating and the penalties imposed when there's little to no post-race tech inspection. Robin is a engine tuner who knows how to make horsepower. He talks about the difference in tuning street cars and race cars, and explains how he's used his skillset to build a business that allows him to work on a wide variety of projects, without being tied down to one shop or brand. Brian is a Canadian driver, film maker, writer and guy-who-has-it-figured-out. We talk about his upcoming book about the greatest trophy in racing, the Rolex Daytona Chronograph, and the process of researching and interviewing drivers for the book. He recalls a moment when he realizes that he's probably the only one in the room who knows the dollar value of one of the time pieces being handed to him, and feeling very uncomfortable about the thoughts running through his head at that moment. He talks about how the landscape of automotive media is changing and his process and motivation for creating content that he's proud of and that his audience responds to. Denise Stefanie is a vocal force. She is a professional singer in every sense of the word an her experience runs the gamut of the entertainemtn industry. She spent years singing on Cirque du Soleil shows around the world but she never lost sight of her goals in the music industry as a solo performer. Paul is an outspoken young driver who, at 21 years old, just signed a contract with McLaren Automotive as one of their new factory drivers. He talks about the process that got him to where he is and what's coming next for him and McLaren in the world of sports car racing.

David is a career automotive enginner and racer. He's got an analytical approach to his work and his driving (he's an engineer, so... DUH!) and he's got an extremely soothing voice. He tells some great stories about working on prototype road cars and the differences in racing in the US and Europe. He's become somewhat of a Nurburgring specialist and he talks about that too.

Robert Stout is the 2017 Mazda MX5 Cup Rookie of the year, talkes about racing in that series, getting other people to pay for your racing and what they expect in return. Robert came down from Palm Desert, CA to Orange County to have lunch with me and be my first guest, so big thanks to him for kicking things off. He's one of those drivers who is a little under the radar, but if he continues on his current streak of success, that won't be the case for very long.
