Bill provides an update on the latest macro trends, a recap of 2022, and his view on a wide range of topics for 2023 including regulation, Ethereum upgrade, NFT’s & stablecoins.

Bill provides updates on the current state of the economy and the upcoming Ethereum upgrades. Some of the key highlights of the session are below: Macro Update - According to the latest release of the S&P Flash US PMI Index, business activity has declined significantly over the past two years. The PMI has fallen to its lowest level since May 2020, and new business at service providers has shrunk significantly since the early months of the COVID-19 pandemic. Job growth has slowed, manufacturers and service businesses are being cautious with hiring, we are also seeing significant layoffs in the tech sector. The Federal Reserve has raised rates by 50 basis points, but more rate hikes are expected. ETH Update - Ethereum developers have announced plans to upgrade the network, the Shanghai update in March 2023, which will allow for the withdrawal of staked ETH. There is concern among some Ethereum users that enabling withdrawals may lead to a large number of stakers withdrawing their deposited ETH, which could negatively affect the altcoin's price. The next planned upgrade in November 2023, EIP 4844, will include upgrades that will lead to Sharding and would significantly reduce the cost of L2 transactions, making it easier to further scale the Ethereum network.

Bill covered the latest macro news & was then joined by Abra's Head of Global Sales, Robert Valdes-Rodriguez, & Head of Institutional Asset Management, Robert Wallden, to discuss Abra's OTC Trading services. Some of the key highlights of the session are below: Macro Update - In Bill’s view, we are entering a phase of dramatic slowdown in the economy, fastest credit tightening, and low open interest on the leveraged front in crypto, which essentially means we are likely to get into a cycle of money printing again and that is when risk on assets like Crypto will spike higher. Abra OTC Trading - Robert Valdes-Rodriguez and Robert Wallden gave an overview of Abra’s OTC Trading services and some of the advantages of using the OTC desk vs an exchange. Robert Valdes-Rodriguez explained the types of institutional clients that are currently using the OTC services while Robert Wallden provided details of Abra’s OTC setup, which includes Voice trading, Trading API as well as a Trading UI available to the clients.

Bill provided an overview of the latest macro news and featured Abra’s Product Director, Sonam Joshi. Some of the key highlights of the session are below: Macro Update - In Bill’s view, the latest comments from Powell, Fed’s chairman, are an indication that the great pause is coming. This change in Powell’s tone is great news for risk on assets like crypto but he still expects a 50 Bps rate hike in December. Abra Trade Update - Sonam Joshi, Abra’s Product Director, provided an update on the recent upgrade to “Abra Trade” which enhanced the capabilities of the trading system by adding new features such as Price Safety and Proactive Recommendations. Sonam also provided an update on upcoming features for the Abra app that the team is currently working on, including Limit Orders and the new NFT product.

Bill did a brief Q&A with the audience and addressed some of the latest news in the crypto market.

Bill started the episode off with a dedicated Ask-Me-Anything (AMA) to address the latest events in the crypto market. The episode also featured Abra’s Head of OTC Desk, Amit Sinha, who provided details on Abra’s OTC offering and shared his views on the current crypto market. Some of the key highlights of the session are below: Macro Update - In Bill’s view, we have been in a recession and in terms of credit tightening and economic destruction we have never seen anything like this. He thinks that the Fed continues to mismanage the situation and if you add the bond markets, we have seen the largest capital destruction as a % of GDP over the last 50 years, even bigger than 2008. OTC Crypto Update - Amit Sinha, Head of the OTC desk, explained Abra’s current OTC offering and some of its benefits vs traditional investment avenues like an exchange or an app. He also provided updates on some of the upcoming features that the OTC desk is currently working on including Derivatives and a trading API.

Bill discussed the latest macro news including the upcoming election in the US, Twitter and the latest interest rate hike. He also shared his views on what’s next for crypto and NFT markets. Some of the key highlights of the session are below: Macro Update - In Bill’s view, November elections shouldn't have much impact on the markets if, as predicted, Republicans take the house. He also commented on the recent news regarding mass layoffs at Twitter and how it makes sense for Twitter to use a Web 3 wallet as they look to monetize from some of their features like the blue check mark. Crypto Market Update - Instagram has announced that they will be supporting all ETH, SOL and Polygon based NFTs, which is great news for the broader crypto market. Charting the course for Crypto - We should not be focusing on the price of Bitcoin and Ethereum in the short term as we are talking about underpinnings of a new financial system which is being adopted in real time which can take up to 15-20 years. BTC and ETH are changing the financial system for everyone. BTC acts like a check on governments, especially those without their own reserve currency; while ETH represents new ways of banking by creating rails for an always-open marketplace with no borders.
