The Middle-Aged Man Podcast #7 - Emma-Jayne Taylor - Child Abuse and Men

3/31/2023
⚠️ WARNING ⚠️ What we will be talking about may well be very uncomfortable for some guys listening, but I thought for many men, it is a subject that has been long buried inside of them or that some men know someone that’s been through a similar ordeal and don’t fully understand why that person reacts or acts a certain way. Today’s guest was told she was a failure as a child, the girl going nowhere & had a juvenile delinquent badge slapped on her when she was 13 by her psychiatrist. Being labelled at an early age came with difficulties, leading to most people believing she would be dead or in prison by the time she was 20 – although for many the resultant mental trauma from child sex abuse is prison enough. Our guest has organically become a Child Sex Abuse Activist, Speaker, Presenter, and Author on this subject. Her debut book, Don’t Hold Back is a motivational self-help book, published in 2018. Its purpose is to encourage readers to find their voice, give thought, and help them to process the difficulties of child sex abuse, rejection & abandonment – the book is based on her personal and difficult story. Don’t Hold Back highlights how she changed her life to become the successful person she is today. Her charity, Project 90/10 is a powerful mission and vehicle for influential attitude and action change through education and awareness campaigns in the area of child sexual abuse. Today’s guest on The Middle-Aged Man Podcast is Emma-Jane Taylor… Emma-Jane's Links: https://www.emmajanetaylor.com/ https://www.facebook.com/project9010/about

3/24/2023
Welcome to the middle-aged man podcast! The only men's podcast that tries hard not to say “back in my day…” or “why can’t I get the TV to do what I want it to, and yet we still want to be the best we can be. Today's guest is a man that has the dedication to live his truth and the fullness of who is and what he is. But that's not been a straightforward journey. Like many, he got lost looking for an improved version of himself, out there in the world, in places it could never be found. In the career, the accolades, possessions, parties, etc… As he studied psychology he 'stumbled' into teaching adults in organisations about their thoughts, emotions and interactions. What served them and their truth and what didn't? This set a path for him and as he shared his work, it became the perfect mirror to look at himself. He learned the long way around to find out who he really is…and today he’s here to share his insights into being the best version of you, you can be… Gentlemen, today’s guest on the Middle-Aged Man Podcast is Mr Glenn Bracey…. The Middle-Aged Man Podcast #5 - Jon Imondi, Cancer Survivor

3/17/2023
Welcome to the middle-aged man podcast! Today's guest is a man that is a therapist and coach, a guide to take you by the hand and help you on your Journey Back to You. He draws upon his 10+ years of experience in mindfulness, Childhood Trauma work, and Complex PTSD and 3+ years of working with Gaia Pollini (therapist and co-author of the FUCK IT books). His approach focuses heavily on the NOW and very little on the past; he’s only ever interested in the question "What happened to you?" rather than "What's wrong with you?" He also looks at the personal lies you tell yourself every day and what adaptive/coping strategies you learned from an early age that you drag around with you like a big, heavy backpack. Plus I also know we’re going to talk about something that every middle-aged man dreads and how it’s affected a man that should have every tool in the toolbox to deal with it. Gentlemen, today’s guest on the Middle-Aged Man Podcast is Mr Jon Imondi…. In today's podcast we talk about: Link to Jon's "Diary of a Cancer Survivor" Website: https://diaryofacancersurvivor.com/

3/13/2023
So as you probably know, by now, on my podcast, The Middle-Aged Man Podcast we primarily focus on improving your overall life, mindset and relevancy as we are getting older. But I thought I’d address a general lifestyle topic that concerns specifically the slightly older demographic of men and one that I’m having to get used to for a second time in my 40s. And with that said, today I thought it might be kind of interesting to explore a topic that a lot of men are going through and dealing with right now. And that's the topic of living alone for the first time in many, many years. And of course, a lot of guys live alone by choice, and that's totally fine. But there's also a large segment of guys who maybe left a long-term relationship, got a divorce or I hate to mention this, even been widowed....

Preview of What’s to Come

1/25/2023
What is a middle-aged man? According to the Collins dictionary: If you describe someone as middle-aged, you mean that they are neither young nor old and are between the ages of 40 and 60 to be usually considered middle-aged. I’d go as far as saying we are probably all of the above, but also a bloke that in 2023 has probably had more hopes, dreams and career landscapes ripped up and put on the bonfire called ‘experience’. We’ve hit more emotional, physical, technological and cultural buffers than a web page on a dial-up internet connection. In our dark times, we reach for books and magazines that have pictures of blokes with abs you could mark on an ordinance survey map or guru’s that have made millions of dollars from wearing white linen trousers on a beach or got you to release the beast within… …which in some circumstances has got them arrested for public indecency. And in today’s world, he’s probably becoming the most misunderstood and undervalued section of society, because quite simply so much has changed that he doesn’t know how to be a man anymore let alone a middle-aged one… I’m Marc Ford and this podcast is going to follow my journey as a fully-fledged, card-carrying, painfully newly single, career break and life-weary middle-aged man with experts, comedians and the odd famous person, from all over the world that can help me, you and your mate down the pub (or cocktail bar of choice), on how to be the very best middle-aged man we can be without the need to pull our punches, watch our “P’s and Q’s”, feel guilty about not being ‘OK’, embarrassed at things that grow unexpectedly, (or those that don’t), as well as a nostalgic look back at the things that the kids of today call ‘vintage’, when in truth we were having the best of times and laying the foundations for the stuff that they think they invented. It’s the Middle Aged Man Podcast…. and Gentlemen…listen to it here or on other reputable podcast platforms and it will arrive in a loud, glossy red soft top sports car, a Harley Davison or one of those Electric sensible cars… very soon!
