Greg Warren

8/3/2023
The hilarious Greg Warren joins me on my latest episode! We discuss his early days in stand-up, the crew he came up with in St. Louis, driving across the country for gigs, wrestling, and his latest special “The Salesman,” produced by Nate Bargatze and Nateland Entertainment. Pat House is a nationally-touring comedian based out of Philadelphia. Greg Warren recently released his special The Salesman, co-produced by Nate Bargatze and 800 Pound Gorilla Media. The project tells the story of his post-college phase when he had a stint selling Jif and Pringles for Procter & Gamble which eventually led tohis decision to become a full-time comedian. According to The New York Times, Greg “...has done for peanut butter what Jerry Seinfeld did for Pop-Tarts and Jim Gaffigan did for Hot Pockets.” An honest mix of self-deprecation, frustration and an arsenal of lifelike characters highlight Greg’s colorful perspective. He can be seen in his Amazon Prime Special, “Where The Field Corn Grows”, Fish Sandwich on Dry Bar Comedy, Late Night with Seth Meyers, The Late Late Show and Comedy Central Presents. Greg attracts a diverse audience spectrum, having performed as a finalist on BET’s Coming to the Stage and on Country Music Television. He is a favorite on the nationally syndicated Bob & Tom Radio Show, which led to touring theaters nationwide with The Bob & Tom All Stars Comedy Tour. Greg’s comedy has been a daily staple on Sirius/XM’s Laugh USA and Jeff and Larry’s Comedy Roundup channels for a decade. You can hear him guesting on podcasts like Nateland, Never Not Funny, Bertcast, Dumb People Town, The Adam Carolla Show and many more. He's performed as a New Face of Comedy at JFL, on Comedy Central’s Premium Blend and NBC’s Last Comic Standing. Greg hails from St. Louis, MO, where his father was a high school wrestling coach and his mother made him play clarinet in the band. He has captivated audiences with anecdotes about the conflict inherent in meshing the two disparate high school identities of varsity wrestler and band geek. Greg was also a West Point Cadet, where he distinguished himself by amassing an impressive tally of demerits and endless hours of pointless marching. After moving on to the University of Missouri, he studied journalism and became an All-American college wrestler. His debut album, A Soft One, was released by Helium Records; it debuted at #2 on iTunes and Amazon. Drew Kennedy

4/5/2023
Originally from PA and now living in TX, singer/songwriter/author, Drew Kennedy and I randomly met at the Austin airport when he noticed my Tim Williams Band hoodie. I was heading home and he was heading to Ireland to write songs in a castle (the most badass sentence I ever heard someone say.) At the airport, we immediately started chatting about the similarities between music and comedy, and we continued that conversation in this episode. From insurance to becoming a full-time musician, we also discuss his songwriting process, our love for 90s alternative, his favorite Phillie (it’ll surprise you!), and of course, a hell-gig story. Pat House is a nationally-touring comedian based out of Philadelphia. A regular performer in comedy clubs, casinos, and theaters all over the country, Pat has been a choice opener for Sebastian Maniscalco, Tom Segura, and Dan Cummins. He recorded his first album Biggest Thing in 2013, and his latest album Heard Enough Yesterday, hit #1 on the iTunes comedy charts. Both can be heard on iTunes, Amazon, and Pandora. About Drew Kennedy's new album "Marathon": “We had one rule when we started recording this record: If we don’t have it, we can’t use it.” It’s a simple concept – the premise that makes up Drew Kennedy’s ninth studio album, Marathon – but the result is a vivid and immersive ode to a corner of the world that the singer-songwriter has fallen in love with over the years. Kennedy and his collaborator, Davis Naish, packed up a select set of instruments and headed to a small adobe house in the tiny Far West Texas town after which the album is named – as he mentions in the opening track, a town born of Buffalo Soldiers and Seminole Scouts and the third transcontinental railroad, with seven high school seniors; the entire town has less than 400 residents – where they spent a week recording his latest 11-song collection. Despite being a Yankees fan, Meghan Hanley and I still manage to have a great conversation about her career and all things comedy. From watching The Muppets and Chris Rock to comedy classes to cruise ships, we discuss her interest in comedy that eventually led to her getting on stage and where it’s taken her. As always, I ask for a hell-gig story and she did not disappoint. Be on the lookout for her special when it gets released later this year! Really fun chat; give it a listen! MEGHAN HANLEY, fresh off her feature in Forbes Magazine, is a Brooklyn-based, internationally touring stand-up comedian, who has appeared on AXSTV’s “Gotham Comedy Live,” The MSG Network, DreamsTV, Fox’s “Laughs” and “Red Eye.” Throughout the pandemic, Meghan zoomed from her apartment for private events, fundraisers, and corporate clients, including The NFL, Bank of America, The Girl Scouts, Intel, Samsung, and ZeniMax Online Studios. While at home, she also teamed up with Standup2corona.org, a non-profit, that kept comedians at work, while putting food into the food bank, through Feeding America. In November 2021, she filmed a “Dry Bar” Comedy Special, with a 2023 release and in January of 2023, her comedy album, “This Happy,” debuted at number one, for five days straight, on iTunes. Hanley’s quick wit and upbeat persona, have to lead to her being featured in several Festivals, and two tours with Armed Forces Entertainment, providing laughter to our Troops overseas. As a writer/presenter, Meghan co-wrote and co-hosted the program for Fordham University’s Inaugural Athletics Gala, as well as Advertising Week NY’s“The Future is Female Awards.” Additionally, Meghan smiles a lot, which some people find suspicious, but mostly endearing. From Carlisle, PA to NYC, we discuss her brother’s encouragement to try stand-up, heckling (rare!), distractions in the crowd, and the navigation of talking about comedy during our day jobs. This one was a BLAST. Pat House is a nationally-touring comedian based out of Philadelphia. Mike Rainey

2/22/2023
Mike Rainey and I go way, way back in the Philly comedy scene. In fact, he may have said one of the funniest jokes I’ve ever heard on stage (and I completely butcher it during our conversation.) An author, podcaster and comic, Mike talks about his latest book, On Percs, a truly laugh-out-loud hilarious book where he breaks down all the Facebook statuses he posted during his Percocet addiction. Lots of addiction and Delco talk in this one! Listen to the podcast! Buy his book! From Mike Rainey...I am a chubby, 43-year-old married father of three children and two cats. I started stand up comedy in 2003. I drank almost every day for a decade, went to rehab for cocaine addiction in 2006 and eventually became addicted to prescription painkillers from 2012-2014. During my painkiller run, I managed to write two books, Terrible Advice and Terrible Advice for Parents. I am very proud of both and neither sold more than 500 copies. I ate shit consistently for over a decade before finding success with a blog I wrote called Terrible Dad Blog. After Terrible Dad Blog, I was very fortunate to be a part of Delco Proper with my friends. It seemed like it was going to be a TV show, but after filming the pilot, the network said “No thanks, but we’d rather put out some microwaved dog shit that no one will watch,” and it was all over in an instant. I felt like that was it for me. About a year later, my buddy Tim Butterly, the funniest guy on the planet, and I started Dad Meat Podcast. Our listeners, the bubs, made us feel like we should be making stuff again, so we continued to do so and are eternally grateful for them. In 2021, I started Lil Stinkers Podcast with my friends Jon DelCollo and Jake Mattera, who make me laugh more than anyone else. Both of them indulge me as I talk about serial killers, and just generally fucked up people who do funny stuff. Now, I am proud to present to you my latest book, On Percs, which is a detailed account of my painkiller addiction through the perspective of my Facebook posts and current day analyses of those posts. I hope to sell 5,000 copies of On Percs, which would allow me to quit my day job, spend more time with my family and buy a new Chrysler 300 to make up for the one I had repo’d. I love my life and I am grateful for all the family, friends and supporters that make it what it is. Thank you for supporting me. Brad Upton

2/8/2023
My new best friend, Brad Upton, has the most-viewed Dry Bar comedy special, with over 200 MILLION views. After writing stand-up for six years before he hit an open-mic, Brad finally decided to take the stage - then chickened out. He returned a year later and hasn’t stopped. From his early days performing in Seattle, where Bill Nye (yes, THAT Bill Nye) was also a comic in the scene, we discuss his early days in comedy, opening for Joan Rivers, and Dolly Parton and touring with Johnny Mathis to his extremely wild success forty years into his career. BONUS: Brad tells one of the wildest stories I’ve ever heard on my Podcast: The Diamond Princess - the cruise ship where the first COVID case was discovered and then quarantined in Japan in January 2020 - Brad was the comic on the ship that week. Fun chat, give it a listen! The world is discovering comedian Brad Upton after 36 years in the standup business. Brad was teaching the fourth grade and coaching high school track in Pasco, WA when he first stepped on stage in 1984. He quickly decided that he wanted to do standup instead, so he quit teaching in June of 1986 and never looked back. Gordon Douglas

1/25/2023
Both a stand-up comic AND pastor, Gordon Douglas has had an interesting career. From the nightclubs in Philadelphia to Hollywood to ministry, we discuss clean comedy and the Christian Comedy Association and he shares a hilarious story about dropping his sermon notes in an open grave. Gordon Douglas has been married to his wife Dawn for over 35 years. They have five natural children and have opened their hearts and home to a whole lot more. But most importantly, Gordon is someone who lives and loves to laugh! In the 70's, his comedy skills took him from the nightclubs in Philadelphia to Hollywood. Then he ended up in ministry! A wild thought soon came to him. He didn’t have to give up comedy for the ministry, he can do both - often at the same time! So since returning to the comedy world in 1995, Gordon has been in 41 states and 4 countries and has been featured on a variety of television and radio programs. What makes Gordon different? His unique ability to connect with everyone from teenagers to senior citizens. He has performed on both Royal Caribbean and Carnival cruise lines as well as countless colleges, comedy clubs, and corporate events with mixture of fun and faith, love and laughter. Learning from his comedy heroes Jonathan Winters and Red Skeleton, Gordon’s comedy mixes real life stories with “off the wall” physical comedy and his own hilarious view of life. You will relate to his side splitting stories from his life- like dropping the sermon notes into the grave at his first funeral to his demonstration of changing his first diaper, to his now famous “pantyhose dance” that has folks rolling in the aisles. He helps us see the funny things all around us and find joy no matter what we are going through. But he is more than funny! With genuine humility, honesty, and passion Gordon often weaves life lessons into his programs of the things he’s learned in the ordinary and often painful events in his life that include some tragic deaths, his wife’s victorious battle with cancer, and his dads many years confined to a wheelchair. Mike Maguire

10/5/2022
Mike Maguire is the first musician to make an appearance on my podcast. One of my very good friends for a long time now, we talk about what we always talk about - music and comedy. From his best gigs to his worst gigs, we talk about choosing what songs to play, reading the crowd, his Sunday night open-mic at Maggie O’Neill’s, and his career as a guitarist! Mike Maguire's solo debut album, Right On Time features eight original songs. Produced by Andrew Lipke, these songs began as acoustic demos whose arrangements were then built through studio experimentation. The result is a melodically interesting and engaging album featuring some of Philadelphia's finest musicians.
