Angie Solomon - Justice For Grant

6/23/2024
Angie Solomon joins Ed Opperman to talk about a mysterious death - the death of her son, Grant. The circumstances have never been fully explained. On July 20, 2020, Grant Solomon was tragically killed in a still unexplained incident in Gallatin, Tennessee. His father, with whom he had a volatile relationship, was the only witness. Aaron Solomon claims he saw Grant exit the truck, but then looked away, and the next thing he sees is the truck rolling into the ditch. Neither evidence at the scene nor Grant's injuries match the account Aaron gave GPD, who took his word for it and closed the case. To add insult to injury, Grant's family have accused a Tennessee funeral home of breaking his ankles and discarding the clothes he was wearing on the day of the crash. Grant's mother, Angie Solomon, said she saw her son's feet were contorted during a private family viewing at Williamson Memorial Funeral Home after asking for the lower portion of his mahogany-colored casket to be opened. She said she 'almost fainted' when she looked inside. Hospital records show his ankles had been uninjured in the crash. Jeffrey L. Rinek - In the Name of the Children

6/22/2024
Jeffrey L. Rinek - In the Name of the Children Jun 18, 2023 Ed's guest is former FBI agent Jeff Rinek who has written a book called 'In The Name Of The Children' During his 30-year career with the FBI, Jeff Rinek worked hundreds of investigations involving crimes against children: from stranger abduction to serial homicide to ritualized sexual abuse. Those who do this kind of work are required to plumb the depths of human depravity, to see things no one should ever have to see - and once seen can never forget. There is no more important - or more brutal - job in law enforcement, and few have been more successful than Rinek at solving these sort of cases. Most famously, Rinek got Cary Stayner to confess to all four of the killings known as the Yosemite Park Murders, an accomplishment made more extraordinary by the fact that the FBI nearly pinned the crimes on the wrong suspects. Rinek's recounting of the confession and what he learned about Stayner provides perhaps the most revelatory look ever inside the psyche of a serial killer and a privileged glimpse into the art of interrogation. Jeff gives valuable insight into the case and consequences for the victims, perpetrators and investigators. Part one of a two part interview. Part two is Next Sunday. Kennedy and Officer Tippit Sep 21, 2022 Back to November 1963 and the fateful events which were to change America and the world. Ed Opperman is joined by Joseph McBride. From Amazon: “AMERICA’S NEED TO WALK INTO THE NIGHTMARE . . .” . . . was how Norman Mailer predicted the tumultuous period that led to President John F. Kennedy’s 1963 murder on a public street and the fifty years of controversy that have followed that turning point in our nation’s history. Journalist and historian Joseph McBride, a volunteer in JFK’s 1960 Wisconsin presidential primary campaign, began studying the assassination minutes after it happened. In 1982, McBride launched his own investigation. Both epic and intimately personal, Into the Nightmare: My Search for the Killers of President John F. Kennedy and Officer J. D. Tippit incorporates rare interviews with key people in Dallas, archival discoveries, and what novelist Thomas Flanagan, in The New York Review of Books, called McBride’s “wide knowledge of American social history.” McBride chronicles his evolving skepticism about the official story and shines a fresh, often surprising spotlight on Kennedy’s murder and on one of the murkiest, most crucial aspects of the case, its “Rosetta Stone,” the Tippit killing. Joseph McBride is an American film historian, biographer, screenwriter, author and educator. He has written numerous books including biographies of notable film directors, a book on screenwriting, an investigative journalism book on the JFK assassination, and a memoir of the dark...

The Next Civil War - Dispatches from the American Future

6/20/2024
Stephen Marche - The Next Civil War - Dispatches from the American Future Dec 9, 2022 Researcher and prolific writer Stephen Marche talks to Ed Opperman about the state of America, and the likely directionit is heading in. In a disquieting interview, Marche details his work looking into the abyss America teeters on the edge of, and with global, financial, economic and environmental disaster just standing close behind, his conclusions should worry us all. Book Review from Goodreads In this deeply researched work of speculative nonfiction that reads like Ezra Klein’s Why We’re Polarized crossed with David Wallace-Wells’s The Uninhabitable Earth, a celebrated journalist takes a fiercely divided America and imagines five chilling scenarios that lead to its collapse, based on in-depth interviews with experts of all kinds. On a small two-lane bridge in a rural county that loathes the federal government, the US Army uses lethal force to end a standoff with hard-right anti-government patriots. Inside an ordinary diner, a disaffected young man with a handgun takes aim at the American president stepping in for an impromptu photo-op, and a bullet splits the hyper-partisan country into violently opposed mourners and revelers. In New York City, a Category 2 hurricane plunges entire neighborhoods underwater and creates millions of refugees overnight—a blow that comes on the heels of a financial crash and years of catastrophic droughts— and tips America over the edge into ruin. If there was an interview which will make people sit up and take notice of where the U.S. is at, then this is surely a contender for that position. Hatemonger: Stephen Miller, Donald Trump, and the White Nationalist Agenda

6/20/2024
Jean Guerrero - Hatemonger May 1 Stephen Miller is one of the most influential advisors in the White House. He has crafted Donald Trump’s speeches, designed immigration policies that ban Muslims and separate families, and outlasted such Trump stalwarts as Steve Bannon and Jeff Sessions. But he’s remained an enigma. Until now. Emmy- and PEN-winning investigative journalist and author Jean Guerrero charts the thirty-four-year-old’s astonishing rise to power, drawing from more than one hundred interviews with his family, friends, adversaries and government officials. Radicalized as a teenager, Miller relished provocation at his high school in liberal Santa Monica, California. He clashed with administrators and antagonized dark-skinned classmates with invectives against bilingualism and multiculturalism. At Duke University, he cloaked racist and classist ideas in the language of patriotism and heritage to get them airtime amid controversies. On Capitol Hill, he served Tea Party congresswoman Michele Bachmann and nativist Alabama Senator Jeff Sessions. Recruited to Trump’s campaign, Miller met his idol. Having dreamed of Trump’s presidency before he even announced his decision to run, Miller became his senior policy advisor and speechwriter. Together, they stoked dystopian fears about the Democrats, “Deep State” and “American Carnage,” painting migrants and their supporters as an existential threat to America. Through backroom machinations and sheer force of will, Miller survived dozens of resignations and encouraged Trump’s harshest impulses, in conflict with the president’s own family. While Trump railed against illegal immigration, Miller crusaded against legal immigration. He targeted refugees, asylum seekers and their children, engineering an ethical crisis for a nation that once saw itself as the conscience of the world. Miller rallied support for this agenda, even as federal judges tried to stop it, by courting the white rage that found violent expression in tragedies from El Paso to Charlottesville. Hatemonger unveils the man driving some of the most divisive confrontations over what it means to be American––and what America will become. James O'Keefe, Project Veritas Trained By Erik Prince

6/19/2024
Matthew Phelan - James O'Keefe, Project Veritas Sep 22, 2023 Matthew Phalen joins Ed Opperman to discuss the mysterious yet widely referenced machinations of Project Veritas, and one of its' founders, James O'Keefe. Project Veritas is an American far-right activist group founded by James O'Keefe in 2010. The group produces deceptively edited videos of its undercover operations, which use secret recordings in an effort to discredit mainstream media organizations and progressive groups. Project Veritas also uses entrapment to generate bad publicity for its targets, and has propagated disinformation and conspiracy theories in its videos and operations. Targets of Project Veritas include Planned Parenthood, the Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now (ACORN), NPR, CNN, and The Washington Post. In 2009, Project Veritas associates published misleading videos that depicted ACORN employees providing advice on concealing illegal activity, causing ACORN to shut down after losing funding. ACORN was cleared of wrongdoing by the Attorney General of California in 2010, and the associates paid a total of $150,000 in settlements to an ACORN employee who sued for defamation. NPR CEO Vivian Schiller resigned in 2013 after Project Veritas released a deceptively edited video portraying another NPR executive making controversial comments about the Tea Party movement and NPR's federal funding. Project Veritas unsuccessfully attempted to mislead The Washington Post into publishing false information about the Roy Moore sexual misconduct allegations in 2017 the Post won a Pulitzer Prize after uncovering the operation. In 2022, a jury awarded $120,000 against Project Veritas for fraudulent misrepresentation concerning nonprofit Democracy Partners . St John Hunt - Roger Stone

St John Hunt - Roger Stone Sep 3, 2023 St John Hunt is the son of high ranking CIA operative E. Edward Hunt, one of the Watergate burglars and also implicated in the JFK assassination. As such he has the contacts and connections to produce informed and insightful profiles of figures who the public only see, broadly, one side to. Roger Stone was one of the pillars of the Trump administration; an advisor in dapper suits and ties. But beneath the smooth, crisp exterior lies a devious, arrogant and dangerous personality. His access to power was something that was engendered and encouraged by the far right and Bannon, and he continues to wield his influence, albeit between court appearances. St John Hunt tells of his knowledge and the background of Stone, murky and unsettling as it is. We felt it was time to repeat this archive show in light of recent developments orchestrated by Stone and alleged in his court appearances and indictments. Things Aren't Right - The Disappearance of the Yuba County Five

6/18/2024
Tony Wright - Things Aren't Right - The Disappearance of the Yuba County Five March 18 Tony Wright joins Ed Opperman to talk about the facts and the fictions behind the now legendary case of the Yuba County Five. He's the author of two comic books and a graphic novel with Source Point Press. Tony is an archivist, father, husband, and a lost soul of rock and roll. When he is not writing, he is spending time with his family or enjoying a good meal. Tony has been featured as a Yuba County Five case expert on the Mopac Audio podcast Yuba County Five and was also featured as a case expert on the Motor Trend TV show Auto/Biography: Cold Case. The book explores the bizarre and tragic 1978 disappearance of Ted Weiher, Jack Madruga, Bill Sterling, Jackie Huett, and Gary Mathias in the Plumas National Forest in Northern California. Four of these men had intellectual disabilities while one was diagnosed with schizophrenia. On Friday, February 24, 1978, they left the Yuba County, California area in Madruga’s 1969 Mercury Montego to attend a basketball game in Chico, California. Four days later the car they were traveling in was found abandoned on a snow-covered road in the mountains of the Plumas National Forest, some 75 miles in the wrong direction from home.Four jurisdictions of law enforcement would investigate and search for the missing men. Psychics were brought in, and there were strange reports of sightings of the five from numerous people. One witness came forward with an incredible story of seeing the men disappear into the forest that night. Yet every lead came to a dead end. About four months after they vanished, four of the five men’s remains were found some 12 miles from the car, with one discovered in a US Forest Service trailer with plenty of food and fuel to keep them alive for months.Once described as ‘Bizarre as hell’, the case of the Yuba County Five has baffled law enforcement and the families of the missing men for over 45 years. Tony Wright has meticulously researched this case, earning himself the reputation of being one of the foremost authorities on the subject, and his conclusions are likely as close as anyone will come to making sense of this tragedy. Kit Klarenberg – Death of Epstein

6/18/2024
Kit Klarenberg – Death of Epstein Jul 25, 2022 When Jeffrey Epstein was found dead it halted a train which ultimately would have named his considerable contact book. Sex trafficker Epstein and Ghislaine Maxwell supplied these services on both the ‘Lolita’ private jet and the many properties scattered throughout the world, including his own incredibly well CCTV’d private island. Epstein’s death was convenient; it let a lot of dust settle and some powerful and rich people off the hook from being identified in a trial which could have literally brought down Governments and Royalty. Except… The rumour mill started. Dummies, substitute bodies and a plan to scoot Epstein out from one of the most secure facilities in the US flooded conspiracy sites and podcasts. The circumstances leading up to his death and the death itself presents more questions than it answers. It also opens the door to the one tie that still exists to his client list, Ghislaine Maxwell, could well be found the same way. In this interview, Kit Klarenberg talks to Ed Opperman about what the so-called Mainstream media is not reporting. Rabbit Hole - The Vanishing of Amelia Earhart & Fred Noonan

6/18/2024
Rabbit Hole - The Vanishing of Amelia Earhart & Fred Noonan Jul 27, 2022 Chris Williamson joins Ed Opperman to talk about the enduring mystery of what exactly happened to aviator Earhart and her navigator Noonan. In July 1937 Earhart took off on what was her second attempt to be fly around the world on board the Electra. It was to be a 12 hour flight which would take her into the next day and a scheduled landing in Hawaii. However she never made it. Radio communication was difficult in that era, but conflicting reports of requests for help and low fuel are consistent throughout the story. When her plane ran into difficulties there was no rescue or recovery vessels in the area, possibly because of poor navigation which had forgotten the latitudinal time difference and therefore made a navigational error. Despite searches – which have continued for decades throughout the sea and nearby Nikumaroro island, no trace of the plane, Earhart or Noonan has ever been found. This has lead to countless theories about what befell the plane. Chris Williamson has been exploring this mystery from every angle for five years in his podcast. He tells Ed Opperman of the likely, the unlikely, the bizarre and the unsavoury notions put forth to try and resolve this enigma. The Bizarre Story Behind The FBI Fake Documentary About The Bundy Family

6/17/2024
Trevor Aaronson - The Bizarre Story Behind The FBI Fake Documentary About The Bundy Family Oct 22, 2023 "RYAN BUNDY SEEMED uneasy as he settled into a white leather chair in a private suite at the Bellagio in Las Vegas. As the eldest son of Nevada rancher Cliven Bundy, who had become a national figure for his armed standoff with U.S. government agents in April 2014, Ryan had quite a story to tell. Eight months had passed since Cliven and hundreds of supporters, including heavily armed militia members, faced off against the federal government in a sandy wash under a highway overpass in the Mojave Desert. Now, here in the comforts of the Bellagio, six documentary filmmakers trained bright lights and high-definition cameras on Ryan. They wanted to ask about the standoff. Wearing a cowboy hat, Ryan fidgeted before the cameras. He had told this story before; that wasn’t the reason for his nerves. After all, the Bundy confrontation made national news after armed agents with the Bureau of Land Management seized the Bundy family’s cattle following a trespassing dispute and the accumulation of more than $1 million in unpaid grazing fees. But the Bundys, aided by their armed supporters, beat back the government, forcing agents to release the cattle and retreat." Trevor Aaronson is an American journalist. He is a contributing writer at The Intercept and author of The Terror Factory: Inside the FBI's Manufactured War on Terrorism. He was a 2020 ASU Future Security Fellow at New America and a 2015 TED Fellow. Aaronson is the creator and host of the documentary podcasts American ISIS, which tells the story of Russell Dennison, an American who joined the Islamic State as a fighter in Syria; and Chameleon: High Rollers, which investigates an FBI undercover operation in Las Vegas. In January 2023, Aaronson launched a podcast series called Alphabet Boys about "secret investigations of the FBI, CIA, DEA, ATF, and other alphabet agencies". The first season, "Trojan Hearse", focuses on the summer 2020 COINTELPRO-like infiltration of antifa / Black Lives Matter protesters and activists in Denver, Colorado, following the murder of George Floyd in Minnesota in May 2020. The second season, "Up in Arms," tells the story of a DEA narcoterrorism sting that targeted a former FBI informant who claimed to work for the CIA. Aaronson has won the Molly National Journalism Prize, the Data Journalism Award, and the John Jay College/Harry Frank Guggenheim Excellence in Criminal Justice Reporting Award.
