Jonn Thomas is the president of MicroBiz Marketing, a company that specializes in creating customized and affordable marketing solutions for small businesses. His technical marketing expertise is an outgrowth of his commitment to delivering huge outcomes to business owners and others who want to live expansive lives. Jonn's coaching and facilitator training includes his 1993-2000 participation in Landmark Education, where he completed training that prepared him to lead introductions to the Landmark Forum and the Self-Expression and Leadership Program. December 3, 2023 Black Summit Interviews Season 2, Episode #3 - Glenn Greenidge In this podcast episode, Grace Lawrence interview her co-host GLENN GREENIDGE: Glenn has been involved in community empowerment, personal development, and entrepreneurship since the 1980s. Glenn started his personal development journey in 1981, attending and volunteering in leadership positions at what is now Landmark Worldwide. In the '80s, Glenn was on staff at the East Coast 6-Day Advance Course training facility for 2 years. To do this, he took a break from his job at Xerox Corporation and his successful 25 + years Data Processing career. In 1990, Glenn and Byron Johns co-founded People Of African Descent Empowerment Group (PADEG), with an initial mission of promoting leadership training opportunities for people of African descent in the New York Tristate community within the structure of courses and volunteer training provided by Landmark. The second phase of PADEG was the establishment of an investment partnership that invested in stocks and mutual funds from 1997 – 2011. In 2012, Glenn collaborated with Byron Johns and Orin Saunders to develop a coaching program called The 90 Day Enhancement Program, out of their commitment to the development of entrepreneurs, and small & medium sized businesses in the African American community. Glenn Greenidge is currently actively working on Economic & Community Development utilizing his training and development skills in Commercial Real Estate at Sutphin Blvd Business Improvement District in Jamaica, NY. In addition, he is chairman of Queens Community Board 12 Economic Development Committee. Glenn is also is the Board Chair and Chairman of the Real Estate Committee for Joseph P Addabbo Family Health Center, which is constructing a $32 million expansion using New Market Tax Credits. Glenn has been a member of the International Black Summit since its inception in 1991. Glenn has been a Summit facilitator for over 30 years, and has held the accountability for the International Black Youth Summit with Joyce Jones for over 20 years. In 2015, Glenn also developed a youth leadership training programing for the African Center for Community Empowerment, a New York-based nonprofit organization committed to helping solve the poverty-related problems of inner-city youth and their families. Glenn has a Bachelor of Science for the Southern New Hampshire University in Management Advisory Services (a dual major in Accounting & Computer Science). November 5, 2023 Black Summit Interviews Season 2, Episode #2 - Charles Robinson In this podcast episode, Glenn Greenidge and Grace Lawrence interview CHARLES ROBINSON, JD: Charles Robinson has extensive training and experience in Labor/Employment Law, and Mediation. A graduate of the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater, and the University of Wisconsin-Law School, he is a former Administrative Law Judge, and a former Special Master for the Milwaukee County Circuit Courts. He has practiced mediation for 30 years and has served on mediator panels for the Milwaukee County Family Court, the Rock County Family Court, the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, the United States Postal Service, and Resolute Systems. He has also managed disputes for universities, prisons, schools, and governmental agencies. Charles also provides training workshops and seminars for schools, businesses, and community groups. Over the course of his professional career, Charles has been an adjunct professor teaching in the Schools of Human Services and Continuing Professional Services for Springfield College-Milwaukee Campus. He also taught paralegal courses and Police Science for Milwaukee Area Technical College, Constitutional Law for the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh, and Abnormal Psychology for Concordia University. While teaching with a commitment to transform socioeconomic conditions and violence in his community, Charles has been an active volunteer community leader. Some of his work includes creating block-clubs; serving as District Commissioner for the Boy Scouts of America; providing mediation training for law enforcement; facilitating restorative justice for youth and police officers; and serving as a program leader with Landmark Worldwide, a personal and professional training and development corporation. October 1, 2023 Black Summit Interviews Season 2, Episode #1 - Aloma Marquis In this podcast episode, Grace Lawrence interviews ALOMA MARQUIS: Aloma Marquis was born and raised in North Philadelphia, Pennsylvania in 1953 and attended several universities and colleges around the country before graduating with a BA in Political Science and Urban Studies in 1986 from California State University at Dominguez Hills. After working for almost fifteen years in the field of law enforcement, she left to honor her calling as a fine artist that initially surfaced at age twelve. Eventually, she earned a Master of Arts (MA) in painting with a minor emphasis in drawing in 2003 and a Master of Fine Art (MFA) in the same disciplines in 2005 from Stephen F. Austin State University in Nacogdoches, Texas where she subsequently taught a variety of studio arts and Art Appreciation classes for almost 14 years before retiring in December 2019. In 1990, along with Pat Reid-Porter, Marquis co-founded The International Black Summit (IBS). The IBS is a safe space where people of Black African descent can explore what it means to be human and avail themselves of course work and tools that can support them in bringing " into being their vision(s) for the Black community and the world.” She is the founder and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Unleashed100, LLC, formed in September, 2020. Unleashed100, LLC is a transformational education and creativity company that specializes in faith-based personal life coaching (Stone Jar Coaching) and business development coursework. Unleashed100, LLC also houses the Marquis Multimedia arm that manages the sales and development of her fine art practice: original drawings, mixed media works on board and paper, sculptures, handmade artist books, and installations. Robbin is a mother, grandmother, and an avid student of mindfulness practices including meditation, yoga and Buddhism. Drawing over 25 years of experience as a writer and facilitator, her inclusive practice finds us and brings us into the ceremonies we have always needed. Alexis was blessed to learn the loving practice of facilitation as part of the facilitation team of the International Black Youth Summit from 1998-2004, and in many other settings. Alexis's critically acclaimed books include: Undrowned: Black Feminist Lessons from Marine Mammals (AK Press 2020), Dub: Finding Ceremony (Duke Press, 2020), M Archive: After the End of the World (Duke Press 2018), Spill: Scenes of Black Feminist Fugitivity (Duke Press, 2016) and Revolutionary Mothering: Love on the Front Lines (PM Press, 2016). Alexis was honored with a Whiting Award in non-fiction in 2022 and lauded for creating "modern fables that offer new methods of feeling." Alexis is also a 2022 National Endowment of the Arts Creative Writing Fellow. In 2020-2021 Alexis was awarded a National Humanities Center Fellowship to work on her forthcoming biography The Eternal Life of Audre Lorde. Alexis has taught in many settings including as Winton Chair of the Humanities at University of Minnesota, Evans Chair at Evergreen State University, and Distinguished Visiting Professor in Africana Studies at Barnard College. Alexis and her partner Sangodare have received many honors, including Advocate 40 under 40 features for the decade of work to create an intergenerational living library of Black LGBTQ brilliance called the Mobile Homecoming project. Malika Redmond is the co-founder and CEO of Women Engaged, a nonprofit based in Atlanta, GA, that works to inspire Black women and young adults to become impactful leaders, key decision-makers, and effective agents for social change through voter engagement and reproductive justice advocacy and leadership development. Malika has worked for 20 years both nationally and internationally managing projects that focus on women's human rights, racial justice, and youth empowerment. Malika founded the International Black Youth Summit in 1994, and for a decade led community leadership training, networking, and cross-cultural relationship-building opportunities for Black youth from the continent of Africa and among the African Diaspora including hosting conferences in nations such as South Africa, Brazil, Jamaica and the United States of America. Malika was one of the youngest national field organizers for the 2004 March for Women’s Lives (on the National Mall), and is the proud board Chair-Emeritus of the ProGeorgia Civic Engagement Table. Malika holds a BA from Spelman College and MA from Georgia State University. RAIN" WARREN, PhD about how she effectively uses the Summit Tools and Distinctions in her career, in her life, and in the Summit. Dr. Rain's career as a facilitator, educator, and trainer in peace-building, dialogue, and conflict mediation has spanned over 20 years and has taken her to over 100 countries around the world, which include the continents of Africa, Asia, North America, South America, and Europe She was honored with the distinguished Legacy International Humanitarian Award in acknowledgement of having directly impacted the lives of over 34,000 youth and the Josephine “Scout” Wollman Fuller Award, by Psychologists for Social Responsibility, recognizing her outstanding contributions to the advancement of peace and social justice. Dr. Rain is currently developing a project called, "Creating a World that Listens", in which she takes red chairs to public places and provides a peaceful space in which she simply listens to the issues and concerns of everyday people. Often, she asks them to respond to the question, "What would you say if you knew the world would listen?" She has had profound conversations with all races and ages of people from 6 to 93 years of age. This project was inspired by her research in Rwanda interviewing survivors of the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi. Many of the survivors stated that "over 800,000 lives could have been saved if the world had listened." She believes that the solutions to any community's problems lay within that community. In other words, "it's all in the circle." Dr. Rain's first Summit was in 1992, Highland Park, MI., and she joined the Adult Facilitator Body that same year. She has held several accountabilities within the Summit Body which include Coordinator, Communicator, Administrator, Summit Historian, International Enfoldment Manager, Host, Leadership Council. Dr. Rain was designated a Senior Facilitator by the Original Five Facilitators of the International Black Summit, and has served as facilitator for several years, living her life through the Declaration, questions, and distinctions of the International Black Summit. Dr. Rain holds a MA/PhD in Community, Liberation, Eco Psychologies, Masters degrees in Spiritual Psychology and Higher Education Administration. She completed her undergraduate degree at one of the nation's first HBCU's, Lincoln University in Pennsylvania. Baba Ted Marsh is a community Elder and a master coach committed to transforming the narrative of the peoples of African descent. For over 30 years, he has operated a communications consulting firm, Two Win Communications, which specialized in intensifying and expanding winning relationships in a rapidly changing social climate. A decorated Navy veteran, Mr. Marsh served as a contract officer with Naval Construction Forces and Naval Facilities Engineering, Washington, D.C. He is a co-founder of the Northern California Black Employee Association and the African American Human Resource Forum. As co-founder of the East Bay’s men’s support group Gathering of Black Men, he continues to coach selective, high potential males to facilitate advancing their growth into responsible manhood, applying the principles of his comprehensive guide, The Journey of Manhood. Mr. Marsh was selected to be on the Board of Directors for the Mentoring Center, the executive board of the International Computers & Communications World Leaders Council. He also served as a senior counselor for Lee Hecht Harrison, a national employment transition firm and as Chief Coach for the CIE Institute. Adrienne Coddett is a community activist/advocate and high school educator. Her organization, 3Dreads and a Baldhead/BeMoreCommUNITY (founded in 2000), provides opportunities for people in Black communities to transform their lives by maximizing their physical, mental, spiritual, and economic potential. Adrienne is also well known in Ottawa as one of the five co-hosts of Black on Black, Ottawa's weekly connection to African and Caribbean communities, which broadcasts every Saturday morning 11am - noon on the University of Ottawa’s radio station, CHUO 89.1 FM.
