SLP 420: Garlic for Inside and Outer Health with Teneille Newton

‘Garlic is just one of those beautiful things. It’s been used as a medicine since the times of ancient Egyptians and as a kid I did actually want to be an Egyptian archaeologist. I was obsessed. I wrote hardcover books as a kid at school on ancient Egypt. I’m going to the big Pharoh exhibition in Melbourne, so I can indulge my Egyptian side. But the ancients would definitely use it and they actually used it to help with longevity and they also thought it helped with beauty as well. So of course they’ve got beautiful people like Cleopatra, they were very focused on their image too and it’s looking after the inside and the outer health.’ ~ Teneille Newton
Teneille Newton grew up in Adelaide exposed to a beautiful lifestyle through fresh markets and her family’s love affair for fine wine and food. She had a health challenge when she was a young woman which is what spurred her to want to study naturopathy. Today, she is combining her love of medicinal foods and her skills as a naturopath to bring the incredible Noosa Black Garlic to life all from the amazing Sunshine Coast.
Teneille Newton co-founded and owns Noosa Black Garlic and The Noosa Fine Food Company. These businesses focus on producing award-winning, organically grown Australian black garlic. Their product range includes Black Garlic White Balsamic Vinegar, Black Garlic Extra Virgin Olive Oil, and Caramelized Black Garlic Paste, known for their sweet, dark, umami flavours.
Teneille is also the CEO and founder of The Naturopath’s Kitchen, where she combines her expertise as a degree-qualified naturopath and fitness leader with her passion for gourmet, health-focused foods. She emphasizes that healthy food should be exciting and enjoyable, aligning with her philosophy that diet and lifestyle significantly impact health and well-being.
She was the International Education Specialist & Marketing Manager and developed and delivered practitioner education programs for international markets, enhancing MediHerb’s brand equity. Teneille is also a Keynote speaker, lead education manager
Recognized for her role in promoting health and wellness through education and innovative food products Teneille is a passionate advocate for the use of natural and organic ingredients to enhance health. She has successfully combined clinical practice with entrepreneurial ventures, creating products that cater to both taste and health.
Teneille actively participates in food festivals, industry events, and educational seminars, sharing her expertise and promoting sustainable practices. Her work supports local agriculture and inspires healthy living through exciting and nutritious food.
Teneille holds a Graduate Diploma – Health Promotion from the University of the Sunshine Coast, a Bachelor of Health Science (Complementary Medicine) from Charles Sturt University as well as an Advanced Diploma Naturopathy and Certificate IV – Training & Assessment.

Emily is the Founder and Owner of Evoke Experiences. Her love of authentic experiences, long lunching and holistic wellness are the seeds from which the Soulful Long Lunch Series was born.
Emily has had an extensive and varied career as an Event Manager, overseeing major sports and lifestyle events around Australia and eventually forming her own company to curate boutique-styled events for corporate, luxury and wellness groups.
It hasn’t been a straight and paved path, with many diversions including time spent in the corporate city life working in advertising and marketing, a 5-year stint working on superyachts around the world as a private chef, completing her 300-hour yoga teacher training 13 years ago, and more recently dabbling in naturopathy studies and still completing her Integrated Nutrition & Health Coaching course.
Emily is a natural concept creator, planner and people person. She is a wife and mum of two, passionate about health, wellness and conscious living. The Soulful Long Lunch Series blends Emily’s undeniable skills of bringing to life memorable experiences, with her life passions and sharing it all with a tribe of inspiring people.

Yet, it’s the foundation of mental, emotional, and physical well-being. Prioritising self-care isn't just a luxury—it's an essential practice for living a balanced, fulfilled life. Kim Morrison is a 5 times best-selling, award-winning author, founder of Twenty8 Essentials, an aromatherapist, health and lifestyle educator, mentor, Master NLP Practitioner and Time Line therapist, Advanced Hypnotherapist and a multi-tasking wife and mum. With two aspiring athletic children, one a ballerina and pilates instructor and the other a rugby player, Kim is married to former NZ Cricketer Danny Morrison who, as a family, moved to the Sunshine Coast in 2006.
With athletic goals herself, she played netball well into her 40’s and proudly represented Auckland from 1983-1986. Kim took up the crazy sport of ultra marathon running in her early 20’s and set a world record as the youngest female to run 100miles in less than 24 hours. She went on to represent Australia at the world indoor 24 hour championships in the UK where she set 8 Australian records in 1990.
68-year-old world record holder Cliff Young was her mentor at the time and, to this day, lives by his ethos that success is 90% mental and 10% physical. She has used her running story as a direct metaphor for life – riding the highs, hitting the walls, pushing through the pain barriers, crossing the line and never, ever giving up!

Quotes: Photography is a really crowded space but I needed to stand out as a professional. I wanted to help people be good at their craft and for women to be kind to themselves. I think there is absolutely a reason for why everything happens. The lesson for me was to slow down, not be so fast-paced and be more present. I had to pay the ultimate price to slow down. I put myself first, take care of my mindset, get my exercise done and set up the right nutrition for the day. As women, we are the nurturers and the givers, and a lot of women over-give in every area of their life. You never give yourself credit for the skills you do have. I have learned so much from so many of my clients. A pre-shoot helps people realise it is not a scary place to be. It is nice to have a portrait done at some point in your life. I do encourage people to step outside of their comfort zone. When you look at yourself in the mirror you are looking at a reverse image. When you see a photo of yourself you are actually looking at a true image. There’s a million reasons why people don’t like having their photo taken. We do not take enough photos in life. Quite often photos get trapped in a phone and never get seen. Maybe we should be taking photos that are a little more connected. As soon as you see a photo it takes you back to that moment instantly. You will realise it all happened for a reason.

Helen is a yoga teacher, mentor and energy intuitive with over 10 years experience and an unwavering commitment of deepening her connection to spirituality and healing. As a certified ERYT, she facilitates yoga teacher trainings, workshops and retreats in Australia and Worldwide. Having found yoga during a particularly challenging time in her own life, Helen is deeply passionate to support others on their healing journey through yoga, inspiring them with the tools they need to navigate life in an empowering way. She strongly believes yoga supports us to find inner equilibrium and her teachings offer a beautiful blend of movement, meditation and pranayama with a focus on energetics, to create balance and harmony within. As a mother of twins, Helen is also passionate about bringing yoga and mindfulness to children and families and co-founded Calmer Kids, a social enterprise offering workshops, online programs and teacher trainings in 2019.
Helen is also an energy intuitive offering private sessions to help her clients on their personal healing journey, aligning to the truth and path of their soul. She is a Pranic and Reiki Healer, Shamanic Practitioner, Access Bars Facilitator, Sound Healer and Life Coach and weaves these modalities as needed through her sessions. She also holds group events including rituals and ceremonies, sound healing and women circles, with the intention of creating powerful and sacred containers, where people are able to heal and return to their natural essence.

Quotes: I would often find myself playing with animals in a creative way. I was the token weird hippy witchy one at school! I think death and grief have been my greatest teachers. It’s about being receptive and asking what does this mean for me. The mind likes a label. I’m here to live my own mythology. No one else will tell me what is to be revealed to me. Live life the way you want to live it. Embrace the full spectrum of it. In the West we have become quite disconnected from life and nature. We are blind to a huge part of humanity. Knowing the channels and gates are open. You need limitations to create from, you need the vessel. To create change to transform you need a limitation. What parts am I listening to? For the most part 60% of people are Generators. Projectors make up 20-25% of people. Manifestors make up 8% of people. Reflectors make up 1-2% of people. There’s so much we cannot explain yet? Spirituality was always woven into stories. Have no agender and surrender. We have to remember everything before – worked! We have had to adapt and change to survive. It’s sacrificing the creature comforts and let go of things that are draining you. Find the time and space to get to know yourself and ask deeper questions. Be able to say no more to have more space!

A success mindset is powerful and although it might take time to develop, especially if there are setbacks, moments of challenge or doubts, it is continuously working on yourself. Some common principles that will help anyone achieve anything they set their mind to include setting desired goals or outcomes, using your sensory acuity, being flexible, having good people in your corner, a positive mindset and most importantly, taking action. And, when we can create that space and allow other people to hold that for us, and to send us that positive energy, it completely changes where our mind and where our energy is focused. After being told that she didn’t handle stress very well and that it was the cause of her long-term health issues, Ruth Hotson spent over a decade studying and learning how stress impacts our bodies and minds. This led her to study several different health and wellness modalities so she could help other people manage the daily effects of stress. One modality included massage which is a wonderful way to relieve stress and tension from the body, but it was Kinesiology that became the real key to help change her reaction and default response to stress long-term. As a practitioner, Ruth aims to support her clients to wellness and help them find physical and emotional balance so they can make the most of their precious life.
In this week’s show, we hear Ruth help us to understand the principles of Kinesiology and how alternative health therapies can support mental, emotional and physical well-being. Life is stressful for everyone and in most countries, people are balancing financial, personal, relational and health issues. Ruth’s mission is to support her clients to overcome any limitations or challenges and give them an understanding of how they have ended up in this situation and what has caused it. She then shares a number of modalities we can use to move through and heal these moments and then show up in our best most amazing way.
Her definition of Self Love is being able to think about our needs as well as others. Being able to say no to others when people ask us, or saying yes to us. It is knowing the things that make me feel good and prioritising them as much as possible. Self love is knowing I am important enough to prioritise.

Quotes: I have a very inquisitive mindset. I learned you just had to smile and not let people know you were struggling. The style of kinesiology that I do, comes from four different angles – physical, chemical, emotional or spiritual. I think we are all under stress and the way that will show up is different. A shift in what we are focusing on can change the way we experience it. It’s the little things I focus on that are the big things. In life, we cannot expect a static line. The nervous system is like a spring and if working well will take that impact. How we respond to the things that happen is based on how we perceive the world not how things are. Many like to downplay how stressed they are. Gratitude is important but the reality is downplaying stress is not helpful. Who I am is at the core of my being. Focus on what you love or focus on what you still have. Let your smile change the world. Don’t let the world change your smile. How did I choose to store that information from our childhood? Come back to yourself.
