‘I think a lot of people are stuck in a state where they’re not educated, and they don’t know. They try to find the answers of what they’re feeling or what they’re experiencing and it’s really just not there which is really sad to think about because there are the answers, but a lot of people just don’t really know them. So, they can be stuck in that state for however long. I think my passion is to really just bring people the information they deserve and it’s not only just improving the way they move, it’s improving every aspect of their life. Goes back to the simple premise – if you don’t use it, you lose it.’ ~ Morgan Kennedy The human body is not symmetrical. The neurological, respiratory, circulatory, muscular and vision systems are not the same on the left side of the body as they are on the right, and vice versa. Morgan Kennedy’s work recognises these asymmetries and implements strategies that approach both sides separately to avoid imbalances over time. His qualifications are in the three primary courses of Postural Restoration Institute known as Myokinematics, Pelvic Restoration and Postural Respiration. Additionally, Morgan is certified in Functional Range Conditioning from Functional Range Systems. Technically he is titled as a ‘Specialist’ in both. He has a huge passion for helping people make positive changes and loves supporting his clients to understand how incredible their body is. This interview is a captivating conversation about a young man’s passion for helping his clients be their best selves. Morgan has a deep knowledge and love of the human body and shares how the health and fitness industry has become such a wonderful profession to be a part of. He is intelligent, and inspiring and makes being healthy sound effortless. Paul has this amazing quote, ‘Sooner or later health will be your number one concern.’ When I really look back at all of the clients that I have had, it’s a tricky one isn’t it? I think people put a certain amount of trust into these corporations and go and shop at the Coles. I know I see you at the Farmers Markets most weekends and things like that. But if you think of the average person, I think most people are just unaware, just actually unaware.’ ~ Peter Klaricich Pete Klaricich has studied various modalities and movement practices including the CHEK system, Yoga, Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and Anatomy Trains. His journey started with his studies and exploration of the ancient teachings within shamanic plant medicine and the practice of yoga. In these spaces, he discovered the complexity of the human being and the untapped potential of our innate capabilities. This was pivotal in enhancing his awareness of health, which always starts within. After a few years of travelling the world, Pete was introduced to the work of Paul Chek, which offered a truly unique and holistic approach to health. The CHEK system integrates high-performance conditioning, holistic wellness and stress management. Once he began integrating theses techniques, he experienced massive shifts, along with inner and outer transformation. ‘I started writing this book as the book that I wish I had been given when I realised that I was in a domestic abusive relationship. And also had given to follow, in order to get out of that relationship and all the steps that I needed to take, but also most importantly, the book to help me rebuild and realign and balance me as an individual. And then finding, and realising and start building that new life, which would be filled with hope and joy and freedom that when most women who are in domestic abusive relationships don’t believe they will ever achieve, and so that was the reason I wrote it.’ Jaynie Morris Jaynie Morris is an entrepreneur, a holistic mindset Coach, a speaker, a media commentator and an author. She is the founder of a global community for women over 50 and Jaynie is a survivor – twice over. The first from a terminal health issue, which lead to the first published book ‘Against Their Odds’, and the second from domestic abuse, which lead to the latest published book ‘This Time Next Year’. Jaynie is a huge advocate for women over 50, she is a member of several government and corporate taskforces for women over 50 and a regular consultant. She is a mother, grandmother and lover of life! The recent tragedy that unfolded in Sydney’s Bondi Junction has left a community, a country, shaken and hearts heavy with sorrow. Among the victims, Ashlee Good’s brave act of protecting her 9-month-old daughter in the face of danger stands as a testament to maternal love and courage. As the details emerged, the violence displayed serves as a stark reminder of the prevalent issues surrounding violence in our society. The loss six innocent souls, along with the injuries inflicted upon other victims, underscores the urgent need for increased mental health services and support mechanisms. In times of such distress, it’s crucial to acknowledge the grief and pain felt by the community. Greg went through many years of therapy until he discovered a holistic therapy modality that totally changed his life. SLP 368: The Power and Efficacy of Allowing the Body to Slow Down with Hayley Robinson

‘And just knowing how much it helped me I then started volunteering my time to fellow colleagues in the police service who were experiencing PTSD. I started noticing the shift and change in them after a session with them. And I began to recognise then the power and efficacy of allowing the body to slow down and detach from the mental racing around and chatter, and reconnect with our body, activate that parasympathetic nervous system to then activate their relaxation response. And so, over the years it’s just been a constant refinement of changing and shifting and adapting different core components of yoga and that sort of lead me to where I am today. And I’ve developed quite an effective therapy called Accelerated Relaxation Therapy.’ ~ Hayley Robinson Former Queensland Police Officer turned Therapeutic Yoga Practitioner, Hayley Robinson has developed a unique therapeutic approach in facilitating the body back into the relaxation response via targeting the nervous system and the mind-body connection. Drawing upon her lived experiences with anxiety, ADHD, an auto-immune disease and an array of life events, Hayley now channels her life learnings into a passion fuelled purpose, helping others attain a state of calm relaxation. I felt like I was serving a purpose and living in alignment with my true self being a police officer. Yoga allowed me to drop down out of that stress response state. I didn’t know who I was, my identity was gone. Yoga helped people with PTSD in the force and helped to slow down and reconnect with their body. You can go from an activated state to a blissful peaceful state in an hour. Go from being a tortured soul to a bright light. Identity used to be from an external influence but now it is my true self, my core. The central point of stillness within. Drawing helped me to get into the flow state. You never truly know what’s going on for someone else. Don’t be ashamed to speak up or share what you are going through. I trust myself and tap into that creativity for each client. Yoga assists the body to activate the parasympathetic nervous system via the vagus nerve. The mind controls the body, the body controls the mind. The body is not designed to be in a stressed state long term. We need to know how to shake that stress off. Allow your emotions to be processed and out of the body. You will find having a good support network, the drawing, yoga, walking, grounding and talking all helps. Time does heal all wounds. Don’t suffer in silence and try do it all by yourself. ‘Again, my ego was pretty up there, and I was pretty full of myself with all of these wonderful things I was doing for people. Anyway, this guy called George comes up to me and he used to drink at the pub, and he said how good I was, and then he said, ‘I’ve got good news, my daughter’s met someone at Endeavour and they’re going to get married.’ And I was thinking to myself, why is he telling me this? And he had tears in his eyes, and I said, ‘What’s the matter George?’ And he said, ‘His parents had quite a bit of money and they’ll set them up in a Unit, and now I can die without having to worry about my daughter.’ And he said, ‘As you know people with kids with disabilities, that’s the thing they’re scared of… dying wondering who’s going to look after them?’ And it was that moment that I changed the way I think about what I was doing. And it was more that I had the opportunity to help people because of where I was not to beat my own chest about how good I was. And it went on from there, that conversation was a catalyst for a lot of change in me, in regards to the way I thought about things and the reason why I want to do things.’ And the reason why I want to do things now, is to help people.’ ~ Ashley Robinson This is a big conversation about the tapestry of one man’s life, the highs and lows, the wins and losses, the challenges and struggles. He has helped raise hundreds of thousands of dollars in funds for community groups and those less fortunate, while also spending five years as chair of the Community Gaming Benefit Fund which distributes $15 million a quarter to community organisations across Queensland. The Wurtulla father of two sons was born on a Eudlo pineapple farm and has built a powerful understanding of the region through his ongoing involvement in sport, community service, advocacy for men’s health and quiet generosity to those in need. Ashley is affectionately and widely known as ‘Tugboat’ in recognition of the dependable, steady strength he brought to his rugby league playing days and then to his roles as a business manager and community service. Born in Nambour Hospital on December 10, 1957, Ashley is one of a rare group who can claim to be a born-and-bred Sunshine Coast local. His dad Len was a pineapple farmer who, with his wife Edna, raised two boys – Ashley and his older brother Lindsay. Ashley says growing up on the farm at Eudlo was full of happy memories. Ashley played Australian rules as a youngster, before taking up rugby league in high school. He became captain of the Nambour High team before playing for Souths and All Whites. After a season in Perth, during which he made the Western Australia team, he returned to the Coast and played with Souths again, before beginning a 10-year stint with Maroochydore, interspersed with a season in Longreach in 1981. He was in his mid-20s when he met his wife Sheila during a night out at Mooloolaba Surf Club in 1983. He realised he had found “the perfect woman” when she offered cold beer and fresh seafood for dinner after their first date. ‘It’s been a challenge and there has been of course, dark days. I even had to write a letter to my three kids, because the second time I never thought I would make it. So, I am so blessed. And that’s why everyone to me is so precious. I call them precious because I know they are precious to me. And sometimes I can’t remember their names, but life is precious and that’s why I say to everyone, ‘Just go out and live it today, because you never know what’s going to happen tomorrow, and we are blessed to be here.’ ~ Wendy Barnes A twin, a black belt, a speaker and a cover girl, this week’s guest Wendy Barnes is one extraordinary soul. Competitive in spirit and wanting to travel, this woman was living her best life. She was training for the Mooloolaba Triathlon in 2008 when suddenly she was diagnosed with breast cancer, and her world stopped. She navigated and survived the highs and lows. And then, much to her dismay, five years later she was diagnosed again. In today’s episode we get to hear this extraordinary woman speaking from the soul, inspiring and reminding us all to live life out loud and appreciate how precious life is.
